KH1 just has a different vibe about it than the other games. Everything feels so much darker, more mysterious, more dangerous. You don't feel as strong as you do in the other games. Even the music, secret bosses, and camera add to this feeling of desperation and hopelessness. Even the final bosses feel so much more difficult and some times downright terrifying, especially if you played as a kid. But its because of all these things that I feel KH1 sticks with you in a different way than the other games. Its just a lot more mystical, I guess is what I'm trying to say

i think this is because all the other games are not played by someone who literally does not know how to fight and to be honest, i want something like that again but the fanbase would imediatelly scream in agony because the combat is not like KH2. KH2 kinda set a bar too high for the community it actually hurts the franchise, this is a problem i have with fanbases of long series who have a magnum opus, literally every game get's compared to it and if doesn't become equal or better it imediatelly becomes a divisive game in the eyes of the community( and even if it is on par people will still shit on it because it's not a literal carbon copy of the magnum opus)

This song hits different in the first KH game, in all the other games it was re-used afterwards, it feels like it's just being used for the sake of it you know? Sora was weak in KH 1 and the game made you feel that constantly, he was slow, clunky, his jumps were extremely heavy and weighted, whenever he landed a tech hit he would stagger backwards unless he had specific keyblades, like KH 1 is legitimately the only KH game where I felt afraid for the characters, Sora was a kid thrown into a super dangerous situation even Leon's like "Why did it have to be a kid?" On top of that, even though Riku does take Sora's keyblade from him briefly, there was a long period of time where it was made clear that Sora was a chosen one of sorts, when everyone meets him they're surprised to see his weapon, some people even want to take it from him for one reason or another, Leon thought it was dangerous for Sora to have it and everyone else just wanted it for themselves, there's heavy themes of friendship, betrayal, desperation and fear, all of Sora's attacks in this game look like a kid just swinging a toy sword around, it's apparent that he doesn't have proper combat skills. Because of all this and perhaps the camera angle which seems to be below Sora most of the time, it always feel like you're up against something bigger and stronger than you are, even the heartless from the start of the game can easily kick your ass if you're not careful, specifically when the Knight heartless start showing up, those guys just demolish your HP and they're just starter enemies, I don't know, KH just had so much thought put behind everything, the real reason why KH was the best KH game is because it was Nomura's first project. I believe he was given all the time he needed, so he was able to explain everything the way he wanted to, it's why KH 1 is so easy to understand, Nomura had time to think about things and keep his imagination in check, I've written stories before and sometimes creativity just hurls itself at you but if there's too much of it the story becomes convoluted and confusing, sometimes you just want to add idea after idea into your stories, but if you do everything you think of you'll start to lose sight of the story and nothing makes sense anymore. Because I write things on my computer and phone I like to write them as separate stories or files instead of instantly integrating them into the story, sometimes I might even delete them or keep them completely separate from the main stories, sometimes I want to write about those things and have them be a part of the World, but I don't add them to the main story because it would be nonsensical, can't just have things come out of nowhere, they need explanation, so the explanations stay in their stories instead of being irrelevant parts of the main story, there are times when this can work well with enigmatic figures such as the Lingering Will and Unknown, those two characters showing up as secret fights works very well because they have a backstory and they're not forced upon us. Anyway that's all I have to say.

This is magnificent my friend. A very underrated comment. Couldn’t have said it any better myself. That feeling of mystery and slight eeriness was what made KH so magical compared to the other games.
@GameHero1523 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. KH1 really felt like a larger than life adventure, where the game is just so insanely good at putting you into Sora's shoes every single step of the way. You feel like a kid having fun and playing on an island, you feel the tension and terror, the ominous sense of destiny and fate watching as all the monsters from your dream are suddenly there ravaging your islands, tearing apart your friends, the lack of a map and sense of direction is something often criticized in KH1 but it does an amazing job setting the tone and atmosphere. Once you reach Traverse Town it greatly helps emphasize the feeling of being a kid, lost in a strange place without a familiar face in sight, wandering around hopelessly until you're worn out still having to fight the strange creatures, eventually going back to the shop and then suddenly encountering Leon, this figure who towers over you, who knows more than you, turns the one area of Traverse Town that seemed safe into a combat zone. Then, when even HE seems to have trouble dealing the heartless given his panic and immediate escape once the heartless show up on the hotel room, further sets in this feeling of the heartless as a threat. But then you meet Donald and Goofy, work as a team, take out a big boss, makes you feel powerful, makes it seem like yeah the heartless are a threat, and you may be small in these foreign places, but that just means you have these big new places to explore like you always wanted, friends by your side to help deal with the heartless. Kingdom Hearts 1 is just such a unique experience in this way and nothing else in the series comes even remotely close. The best way I can think to describe this feeling, the atmosphere the game gives off, is a light within the darkness. Facing off against this big, unknowable threat consuming everything, lost in these weird foreign places you don't know, just hoping maybe you'll find your friends and a way to get home, such a scary feeling, but at the same time you have the comfort of being able to find friends anywhere who have your back, new people to protect and who will protect you in turn, to keep the mood light even against this giant threat and make the journey to save the day be fun, to grow from this scared little kid into a hero who's grown and can constantly hold onto hope for the best. Such an odd feeling of warmth and comfort against what might otherwise be a cold, harsh situation. A light within the darkness. That's how Kingdom Hearts feels
@kyreestandifer5223 жыл бұрын
I know right KH1 grasped the tension so well. I really loved the moment where you defeat Darkside for the second time. The game is like oh cool you beat this big monster right. Well heres Leon someone who's trained to fight for years more than you have, since your still a kid. Have fun. Even giving Leon magic, even if it was just Fire, added to just that power gap between you and him. Even if you beat him through overlevelling or just years of experience playing KH Sora still loses that fight. I will never forget that moment.
@GameHero1523 жыл бұрын
@@kyreestandifer522 Oh absolutely the Leon fight is awesome. Like, you've been battling seemingly mindless creatures of darkness so far, running around an unfamiliar world after you watched your home be destroyed and your friends ripped away from you, being exhausted and frustrated trying to find your friends or any direction and you run around exploring the town, then suddenly comes this cool guy, your first opponent that isn't just a mindless dark creature, a human, an adult over twice your size with a scar, a biker jacket, and a huge gun sword who seems to know a lot more than you and who certainly seems to have a great deal more fighting experience than you, attacking you in what felt like the one safe district, and not only does he seem to be after your keyblade but he implies that now everyone is after that key and that the barrage of assailants against you won't stop. Seriously, this game does such an amazing job placing you directly into Sora's oversized shoes and making you feel exactly how he feels, like a lost kid who doesn't yet understand what's going on, suddenly thrusted into something much bigger than anything he could imagine. Moments like those are truly what make KH1 so special. It's just so much more immersive than any other game in the series, you directly feel the threatening presence of the heartless and the villains, and it makes it that much more empowering then being able to overcome struggles

I love the picture here. All the characters were unsure of their quest in the beginning. Goofy, but especially Donald didn't fully trust if Sora was the chosen one. Sora was simply a kid with no idea that he was the chosen wielder of the keyblade (and it should have stayed that way instead of giving everybody and their grannies a keyblade). Sora was oblivious to his own greatness, as the picture shows an etched crown over his head that he isn't aware of. He was oblivious to Kairi's love and to the fact that his pal, Riku, envied him for winning Kairi's affections (ultimately making Riku an enemy in the beginning). Anyway, I just admire the literal blue you can detect from all the characters. It's a moment of pondering that not everything is all big smiles in KH...well at least in this one.
@thisismyusernow3 жыл бұрын
That's why the first game, though honestly not as fun as the second one, is my favorite story-wise. In the second game Sora feels like an anime protagonist. In the first, he felt like an actual RPG hero if Disney seriously tried making one. He felt like a kid, acted like one, was one, and for some reason he was given the responsibility to save worlds. Donald and Goofy, though a bit of a meme at this point for being bad, actually felt really helpful in the early parts of this one. They're there to guide Sora and they did, somewhat carrying me until I reached a point I could easily hold my own in a random encounter with Heartless. It honestly just feels like they didn't get enough of a power spike to match with Sora in KH2. I played the 2nd game before the first, and it really didn't matter. The game felt that different.

The intense feelings that the first Kingdom Hearts game gave me and still give me will never be replicated by another piece of media. This track encapsulates the most prominent feeling: trauma. What was once a safe haven for Sora and his friends becomes dark, foreboding, and dangerous. It reminds me of how 9/11 felt as a 6 year-old boy. All of my classmates' parents were scared and crying. Me and basically every other child had their sense of safety and security ripped from under them. We could be attacked at anytime and at anyplace. It makes me cry just typing this because it brings me right back to how it felt. I can only imagine how much more traumatic it was for the kids that lived in NYC. Kingdom Hearts was a way I could subconsciously make sense of that trauma. The real-life threats to the US were represented by the Heartless and this intense Mission Impossible-inspired track. I could try and hack away at the Heartless as much as possible, but Sora's island was always lost in the end. My efforts were futile. All I could do was move forward into new, uncharted territory.

Back when there only used to be one Keyblade master, I think KH 1 proves that Nomura is capable of writing coherent stories, I think there might be an underlying stress in each of his newer games because after a while they just had him do pretty much every big new game for Square Enix, I can't blame him for the mess he's made, not completely anyway.

@@danieldiaz4584 You can't say time travel doesn't work that way because time travel in anything makes up its own rules each time, you could just say time travel is broken and it is, time travel has a habit of breaking almost anything that it comes in contact with. A lot of stories are ruined by time travel or plot holes are opened from it, very few sources of media get time travel right or focus next to no time on it so it's not much of a problem, KH didn't explain it at all but it was a massive part of KH 3 and Dream Drop Distance, I think it broke KH too.
