I always liked the ending for Recoded, because it started to show what the real Sora would need to accomplish in KH3. BBS and DDD also added to this setup. It always came off to me that Sora was going to enter a more proactive role in saving these characters, in order to be the proper counter to Xehanort and his calculated shit baggery. Oh how I was wrong

I actually really love this game. This was the first one I ever played. I didn't have a console until I was older, so I grew up watching videos of KH 1 and 2. I did have a DS, and when I found out there was a KH game on the DS I immediately got it. I played it nonstop until I beat the game, and to this day this game is one of the most nostalgic ones. I didn't understand the story until I played all the other games years later, but now that I've beaten all the games multiple times, I can appreciate this one a lot more.

Can wewe all just appreciate how amazing Mr. Jesse “Beautiful Soul” McCartney is at voice acting? If I’m not mistaken, this was his first big VA role (tried to Google and found varying timelines). But like. For someone who was at least primarily a singer up until Roxas to convey such believable angst like he does is just amazing compared to some of the more lackluster performances throughout the series (looking at you, Mena Suvari 👀👀)

It also helps to reset the camera with RB every time you change the direction Sora is facing so that way you can see where you're going. I also generally zoom the camera out whenever I do the platforming, since that's most likely what the second camera mode was intended to be used for.

As someone who has recently done a lvl1 crit playthrough of this game I'd actually say that Jafar wasn't the worst boss for me, not because it's good, god no, but because it was relatively inoffensive due to certain moves being able to hit Iago without doing the platforming part. No, instead it was the combo of Cerberus and Hades which have to be beaten back to back with a supply of items that very much is limited. I very easily could've been softlocked under my own ruleset if not for me being a pretty big item hoarder. Even then My winning fight needed great Limit luck, The block prompt to actually work, and Hades to not just spam sora with fireballs... That being said, still a more fair and balanced fight than most bosses on KH3D's Crit.

🎩Well, that's certainly interesting. We had never connected the dots before that Coded was technically the first game to come after KH2. We had considered it more in line with after 358 and BBS, so now the juxtaposition is so much more extreme. First and foremost, now we get why this game, storywise, actually exists. To come right after KH2, Namine revealing Sora has memories in him that aren't his (and can't be Roxas's) is a genuine reveal to anyone who bothered playing. It probably feels worthless in the grand scheme of things because, by the time Re:Coded came out, the entries it hinted at already came out. Second, Hi, yes, that system person(s) again. I believe our Little (🎹) actually was who left the comment on your other video. What left us so surprised by this revelation was the end where Namine talks of how many people Sora must save, while listing a number of entities who were Nobodies that returned to their somebodies. Let's put it another way: Namine saying "But the real me is gone. She doesn't exist now." felt in direct opposition to the Namine in KH2 to us. The girl who said she "would not disappear", "Not fade to darkness", "will be whole", and "will be there every day". That's why we pointed out the added line in Final Mix to you, it felt like the narrative itself riding on my interpretation. So to see this logic here struck us as so odd we actually looked up footage of the actual mobile game, from 13 years ago, just to try to translate to see if it was a translation element. We can at least confirm she said a line similar to that, though it could have been more along the lines of "missing" or "dormant." To go from KH2's rather nuanced, almost open ended take on existence immediately to this fascinates us to not end. What happened, exactly? Perhaps it was the building of BBS and 358 both being tragedies that fueled this shift in mindset? It's curious nonetheless. Was good to see more exploration of Roxas though. Because there is a fascinating idea to accepting hurt of another being that comes into you. We did like that part as well. We genuinely think that's a good message and shows how Sora is a likeable protagonist. (You may find it humorous, but we formed a 🍦Roxas fictive alter recently. Our...13th alter. Having one's first day fronting be on april fool's day did *not* help the irony there.)

22:15 Oh yeah the HP cheat is fun. You can set your item drop to 16x rate lowering your HP to 10% and then tune down the HP cheat so that you have exactly 2HP. Now everyone dies in 1-3 hits except *you* have SW/OM and healing to completely bypass that risk.

I love recoded. Mainly don't care about the story but I love the various gameplay styles - well, most of it. The jank I feel is well balanced to make a well rounded game - a game that's 100% fire I feel may not be as memorable as one like recoded that has most of the game be fire and a small part be dumpster.
@NieOrginalny Жыл бұрын
Alright, since I've watched the video now This one was really surprising. I think more than anything it's the most overlooked game of them all, and the main story being considered unimportant is among the main culprits. The other would be the confusing status of different versions. Much like Days, the game itself never made it beyond the DS, only getting a cutscene movie remake, but where people would subject themselves to DS Days for the story concept alone, Coded had no such draw. That makes all the improvements feel somewhat wasted, but you've definitely made me want to try the game for myself, just for the gameplay alone.

The biggest problem I see with this game was the utilization of the word hurt. I don’t know why they decided to go forward and use that word over all of its applicable synonyms in the sentences with Roxas, it doesn’t work because they also use pain in other instances. There was no need to make the word stand out in the scene cause we know pain and hurt in that instance were both analogous with grief, just the same darkness could also be death. But they use one word in the second example, just "darkness", and that works better. As opposed to saying hurt over pain and making the dialogue awkward as fuck; though it isn't bad exactly, not yet, it doesn’t get bad truly until later games. Best case scenario, it was a dumb recurring mistranslation and the worst case scenario it was Nomura trying to make it a key word in the story foe whatever reason. But that’s the thing we all get the context behind everything to do with that word in the series, so there was no need to flanderize the word "hurt" to the extent that it was. But that’s just Nomura's trademark redundant writing.

I remember this game being reasonably enjoyable. Not so great that I would want to replay it since it's more KH1 rehashing, but I remember being a lot more immersed in this than Days. The platforming stuff was awful, though. If I could have the Wind ability during a given one, I would always use it as a jump correction. I know Re:Coded can't go too crazy with Olympus Coliseum given it's operating with KH1, so you can't have someone like Auron pop up. But I wish it had a bit more going on. Maybe Leon and Yuffie could've even popped up here as optional party members in case you miss Cloud/want more variety/want to plan around their differences. They already go to Olympus for tournaments in KH1, and they only otherwise show up in a cameo to lament how they're not in the game. Also, I think it's kind of unfortunate that the Roxas plot twist in Castle Oblivion is, unfortunately, spoiled by the voice acting. The DS version's cutscene mugshots of indeterminate size make it hard to completely nail down who the person talking to you throughout all of the world is until he pulls out a Keyblade for his boss fight. You can certainly make some guesses and narrow it down, but it's at least more ambiguous. Re:Coded's movie just kinda gives up the ghost in advance due to voice acting, and that's likely why they also have Roxas' face just straight up showing at a number of points.

Out of all the handheld titles, from a gameplay standpoint, I think ReCoded and Dream Drop Distance HD (not to be confused with the original 3DS version) are my favorites in the series. They're not perfect, but they have robust combat systems and overall pretty sound gameplay. Dream Drop Distance HD I think is super underrated and is mainly treated poorly because of the (admittedly justified) bad reputation the combat got in the original 3DS release due to an unfinished staggering system (the game was rushed). This leads people to dismissing the combat out of hand as being "Balloon/Flowmotion spam" when those moves aren't nearly as overpowered as people think they are, because in the original release Balloon was the only command(s) that could consistently stagger enemies and Flowmotion was the next best alternative despite not being able to stagger enemies reliably due to how much damage it could do, especially if you overleveled or used Flowmotion Turbo when dropping characters. The issues that they both have with their enemy design in particular are shared across every game in the series to varying extents, so I can't really look at the bad enemy design they both have in certain instances and say that those are unique problems. The quality of the enemy and encounter design in these games always falls off a cliff in the latter half of the game because they expect that the player will have Second Chance/Once More/Leaf Bracer by that point.
