I’m seeing this movie in an hour! Rewatching the Caesar trilogy once again this past week, it just reaffirmed my love for those films. They showcase the ability for big budget movies to both be exciting and incredibly rich in the themes being explored at the same time. I’m not expecting that level of caliber for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be a worthy successor.

I think this films biggest flaw is not introducing its villain, the Proximus Caesar, earlier. Minor spoilers, but he only comes in around the third act, while his and Noa's relation is actually the most interesting dynamic in the movie. He could've maybe reached Koba's status as an awesome antagonist, but it squanders its potential. But in total, I think it's a solid addition. If I had to rank the Caesar saga right now, it would be: 4. Rise 3. Kingdom 2. War 1. Dawn

Something worth mentioning. I loved the sound of the voices from the apes. Like proximus and raka. Kevin Durand did a amazing job. When I heard Kevin Durand was playing this. I didnt really understand where they were going with proximus with his voice but they did such a good job. I loved Peter Macon as Raka. More consistent than Mission Impossible? This is a good faith question, I understand it can be frustrating to constantly be on the record, and I haven't seen the movie yet
@kingkiller53254 ай бұрын
That would depend on where you are counting the Mission Impossible Franchise from. The "New" MI movies, Ghost Protocol and onwards, have probably been the most consistent set of movies in a movie series. (Not counting trilogies like LotR Trilogy). But if you count MI as a whole. The franchise saw a huge dip in quality with the 2nd and 3rd film.

How was anyone knowledgeable of technical filmmaking not impressed with Wes Ball's direction of the Maze Runner trilogy? I noticed.

There's a lot of good things in that trilogy. They have well constructed action scenes, and Wes Ball is good at directing actors. Dylan O'Brien did a phenomenal job as Thomas in that trilogy. I think many people hearing Wes was hired as the director didn't see the Maze Runner trilogy and only looked at the reviews of them to formulate their opinions of him.

Very good and insightful review! I will see the movie this weekend! As we don't really know the future of these movies and if Wes Ball will be on board to direct the other 2 ( he want to do Legend of Zelda), i understand why people want to already compare it to Caesar trilogy by saying that it doesn't have the same weight. Honestly, i don't know if it will but one thing i know for sure is that Kingdom is like the Rise or the first of Noa's Arc (pun intended) so nobody can't really know the real impact when we will get to the end of this new trilogy (if there is one). Even Wes told that they have ideas to make it bigger, better and more thought provoking. So i will judge it as a stand alone movie and as a big introduction but i will wait to really judge where this new trilogy stand compare to the one before.

It wouldve made for a great 3rd act climax. And further established humanity does not get to reclaim this world. They are like greek or roman philosophers of our own history. They have their own customs and values and entering something of a bronze age for apes. Thats awesome.

I *thoroughly* enjoyed this one but was telling the kids I kind of have to wait to see what happens with the next one before I really know how I feel about it of can rank it. There is SO much to love in this movie - I love the dynamic of Noa and his friends and mom, the bit the morning after the raid is just breathtaking in how motion capture truly seems to have caught Owen Teague's performance, etc, etc - but I do agree with the "negatives" you mentioned. But, though it may not be as self-contained as Rise and Dawn were, I cannot speak highly enough about how great this 4th installment was!!!

I’d agree with it not having as much dramatic emotion as the last trilogy. However, I think there was a good amount. The fact that these apes are twisting who Caesar was and wondering if Caesar legacy meant nothing. Also, the end with the face off and not knowing if apes and humans will ever be able to live side by side.

Not enough fight scenes and although Noa was young he seemed very weak physically . I think this was a lead up to the inevitable fact that ape and human will always be at it . 7/10

However, having seen the movie, I not only think he's redeemed himself, but I'm excited to see what he has to offer with The Legend of Zelda (if Sony doesn't screw him over). The characters were interesting, the visuals are perfect, the music was great, and the cinematography was just stunning. It's nowhere near the quality of Dawn and War, but I found it more interesting than Rise (at least for now).
