This video shows me earning the “You shall not cast!” achievement in Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance. To earn this achievement, Corrupted Denas must be defeated on Impossible difficulty without letting Seeress Mydrias summon any illusions of herself.
So… how do we do that?
The strategy I did involved using the Arborean Emissary and the Arcane Wizards. The former tower curses enemies on each hit, making them take additional damage from all sources for several seconds. The Arcane Wizards deal high damage on their own, but their Disintegrate ability is what really makes my strategy come together. It deals massive damage to the boss. Be careful though - you don’t want it to be wasted on enemies like Glarelings! Their Empowerment ability helps as well - more damage to the boss! I also had Rocket Gunners in mind to chip away at Denas’s armor, but I didn’t need them at all during the boss fight. I still had them during the stage though.
Corrupted Denas, being a boss, is very difficult to take down. He has armor and Magic resistance, which makes him receive less damage from all sources + he has lots of HP. There are several things you can do such as use Rocket Gunners to lower his armor or deal massive damage with Disintegrate. Arborean Emissaries are probably the most helpful due to their great support capabilities. When Denas gets to 50% and 25% HP, he will revert to a more human-like form and try to fight the corruption, making him immobile and unable to attack. This gives you time to deal out as much damage as you can while he’s like this. Soldiers won’t hold him off for long because of his very high area damage.
Vez’nan pitches in during the battle, where the player can choose one of three abilities. The first is the Soul Impact, which directly attacks Seeress Mydrias, preventing her from summoning illusions of herself while also removing any illusions already on the battlefield. The second abilities involves summoning Demon Guards that move down the paths and fight enemies, while the third traps Denas in a cage temporarily, stopping him and preventing him from doing anything.
Of these three abilities, only the first one is vital because it’s the only one we can use if we want to earn the achievement. Be alert and always keep an eye on Vez’nan so you can keep using the ability over and over so Mydrias never gets a chance to summon. If she summons once, then oh no.
I don’t know if hero choices matter but I went with Nyru and Grimson of their high damage and fast movement speed. They’re more valuable in the stage itself rather than the boss fight. You could send them to stop Denas briefly, but they won’t last long. I recommend sending your heroes to fight the other enemies that appear. Dark Hero Spells slow down all enemies, so you could use those to slow down everyone including Denas. Grimson’s Hero Spell slows down enemies in an area, even more so when the slow upgrade is obtained. It also deals very high true damage, so it’s really helpful.
