1912’de 60 mezun veren Galatasaray Lisesi, 1915 yılında 18, 1916’da 4 ve 1917’de 5 öğrencisini mezun edebildi. Çanakkale’ye gönüllü olarak gitmek üzere başvuran İstanbul Lisesi öğrencileri, 13 Mayıs 1915’te Arıburnu’na sevk edilen ikinci tümene katıldılar. Lise öğrencilerinin kolunda sarı kurdele bağlıydı. 19 Mayıs Taarruzu’nda, “hedef olmamaları” için bu kurdeleleri çıkarmaları emredilmişti onlara... Ama sadece İstanbul Lisesi bu taarruzda 50 öğrencisini kaybetti. Bu haber duyulunca okuldaki öğrenciler, okulun kapılarını ve pervazlarını siyaha boyadılar ve Çanakkale Zaferi'nden sonra okulda yapılan yoklamada şehitlerin ismi okunduğunda “Şehit... Cennet-i Âlâ’da!” diye bağırdılar. Vefa Lisesi ve Çapa Erkek Öğretmen Okulu da bu yıllarda Çanakkale Savaşı’na katılan ve şehit düşen öğrencileri nedeniyle mezun verememişti. 1916-1917 öğretim yılında Balıkesir Lisesi, Çanakkale Savaşları’nda 94 şehit verdi. Balıkesir Erkek Muallim Mektebi’nden de büyük miktarda öğrenci harbe dâhil oldu ve bu okul, 1914-1918 yılları arasında yalnızca 2 mezun verebildi. Balıkesir’de yayınlanan Karesi Gazetesi’nin o günlerde verdiği bir habere göre, babaları Balkan Savaşı’nda şehit düşen ve Edirne Lisesi’nden Balıkesir Lisesi’ne yatılı olarak nakledilen 25 izci öğrencinin tamamı gönüllü olarak Çanakkale’ye gitmiş ve orada şehit olmuştu. 17 yaşındaki öğrencilerini cepheye gönderen Sivas Lisesi’nde öğrenciler okuldan ayrılırken, hocalarına hitaben tahtalara; “Hocam biz Çanakkale’ye gidiyoruz. Hakkınızı helal edin.” diye yazdılar. Savaşa giden öğrencilerin geri dönmemesi nedeniyle 1915’te Sivas Lisesi’nde hiç mezun verilmedi. Edirne Lisesi’nin öğretmen ve öğrencileri de harbe katılmıştı, onlar da geri dönemedi. 1911’de 64 öğrencisini mezun eden Kastamonu Abdurrahman Paşa Lisesi 1916- 1917’de cepheye gidenler nedeniyle hiç mezun veremedi. Incorrect. "Onbeşli" indeed refers to the birth date of the soldiers conscripted to fight in Gallipoli, which is 1315 hijri (1897 in Gregorian). They were 18 when they fought in Gallipoli. The Ottoman State never officially conscripted boys under 18. The victory at Gallipoli is already incredibly glorious as it is. 18 years of age is already too young to die in combat. No need to further romanticize it with urban legends.

Hi Luke. This song has a very sad story. Onbeş mean fifteen. During Canakkale War we were short of soldiers and students at the age of fifteen volunteered to join the war. Naturally none of them returned home and most of the schools didn't have graduates at the years of 1915 t 1917. This Türkü (Türkü = Turkish Folk Song) is written in the memory of the these heroic children.

I heard the story of this song (türkü) from my history teacher in collage years ago. It's an anonymous lament from Kayseri (a city in mid anatolia). Hediye was a turkish girl at age 15. At independence war times, there was a huge civil war in almost whole country. Ottoman Empire was ending, Atatürk and his friends were trying to build Republic of Turkey. Hediye was living in Develi - Kayseri and there was a Turkish genocide in there. She was trying to run from it. And this türkü is talking about that. It's saying "ben dolandım sen de dolan, gel beriye" for to say her like "be carefull, move around, come behind here" or someting like this (i couldn't translate well) (tam çevirisini daha düzgün anlatabilecek biri yazsın lütfen). "aslan yarim" means "my lion love" for example. Btw, my teacher also said that she were survived, and he met with her grand grand son after years. If there is someone who knows better, hit me up please. We're listening a precious song for Turkish history and culture. Thanks Luke, keep diggin' ;)

Hi Luke, at 8.30, you would like to know what is name of playing style you have seen..That is called '' Şelpe'' ..This is special technique on traditional music instrument which is bağlama or saz.. The musicians who play that instrument, only use their fingers and try to make some sound by pulling and hitting.. not easy as it seems, believe me :) By the way, Your reaction is awsome..
