Mrwapluv Hbside scholars have always been very careful at labeling things haram. The term haram is used to describe actions that are absolutely forbidden, such as eating pork, zinnah and gambling. When you label something haram than you are saying it is as bad as these things, and that you are speaking for Allah (the only One who can forbid). That is why scholars describe the most disliked acts as makrooh, because it is a huge undertaking to call something haram and not a word to be thrown around lightly.
