I love this because it reminds me of how I made life so difficult for myself in my teen and early 20s. I was hard headed. I thought I didn’t deserve better. But I made it. I Changed my life around and it feels like a bad ass knowing i can be street smart and book smart.

I remember being 14 and at risk went to a event in riverside called " breaking the chains" only kids who were at risk went there with their school counselors. I remember seeing king lil g for the first time I didn't even know who he was. He talked about this troubled past and how he was able to get out the dark hole he was in, just being a straight up positive person. I remember he performed "Grow Up" and shit hit me hard asf. I'm grown up now , I don't do bad thing anymore, I stay out of trouble and barely got my life together and I'm moving forward. Looking back at that day king lil g was straight up just telling us the truth and what we needed to hear. Thank you King Lil G. I'm down to make a song with you

People labeling King Lil G's music as "Chicano rap" are stupid. How the hell is this "Chicano rap". This is just rap. Stop trying to differentiate it. It's not like black people label their rap "black rap". Plus am pretty sure if you were to ask Lil G if he wanted to be the best Chicano rapper ever we would say no and respond with "I want to be the best rapper period." Just cause a rapper is Mexican doesn't mean their music is "chicano rap"....
@epicdude988 жыл бұрын
THANK YOU
@DBZCISCO8 жыл бұрын
But it is rap coming from a chicano and nobody has to label anything but yet people still do. To each his own opinion. But ask anybody black or brown or white if there's a difference btwn rap n hip hop. Some ppl would argue on that.
@theplaceboeffect50808 жыл бұрын
+DBZCISCO Yeah I know that it's coming from a Mexican rapper and I'm not saying that he shouldn't represent La Raza or anything like that actually on contrary I want him to represent us Mexicans in his music cause he's a dope rapper. I also know some people would argue about the difference between hip hop and rap but those that do argue are the dumb ones because rap is technically hip hop but its all about how you wanna label it I guess.
@DBZCISCO8 жыл бұрын
+Chuy Ruiz I feel what u saying... is a diversity tho especially here in New York wich is like da center of where da music b popping at... shits changing n I've yet to hear lil g act like a nigga so its easy to see in wat category he would fit on if the hairs were split like here. Im also from south LA tho so I know pelones homies who dont play dat moreno shit. Im open minded but we got to have some sort of roots to remind us who we really are and not b what the environment makes us.. Feel me?
@theplaceboeffect50808 жыл бұрын
DBZCISCO Yeah I feel what you're saying. I think it's good to be proud of your race but not too proud to where you think your race is better than another... and people who don't bump blacks are dumb especially since hip-hop stems from black culture and I'm not saying it all comes from black culture cause there's other races involved but for the most part it did. Anyways at the end of the day it doesn't really matter cause there's only one race in this world and that's the human race. There's also only one culture in hip-hop and that is hip-hop (or rap) culture. Skin color is just an obstacle.

King Lil G feat Chikk - "Grow Up" [Intro: Snoop Dogg's "Class Room Intro"] Good morning boys and girls You over there in that black shirt What chu wanna be when you grow up? [Verse 1: King Lil G] Uh, my mother worked two jobs, gang banging was too raw 1993, I was bumping some of that Snoop Dogg Murder was the Case, my uncle caught a case My grandmother stressing out, I could feel the pain Acting older than I was, I should have been acting my age I had to walk to school, I got recruited to the gang My mother tried to do her best on minimum wage But it was hard when I seen the drugdealers in the range Such a bad example, she didn’t even know it I truly needed my father with me, you need to know it You need to know it, cause I need someone to BE heroic Someone to motivate me when I wanna BE a poet I truly think that I can be the dopest, maybe noticed Never losing my focus, but chu ruined the moment Shit was hard in my apartment, roaches and old, carpets (Oh, oh) I'mma enemy target, matresses by the garbage [Hook: King Lil G & Chikk] I know it’s hard to grow up (Grow up, grow up) I know it’s hard to grow up But it’s time to grow up (Grow up, grow up) (I know it’s hard to grow up) I know it’s hard to grow up (But everybody gotta grow, grow) But it’s time to grow up (Everybody gotta, grow) (Grow, grow, grow, grow) [Snoop Dogg's "Class Room Intro"] What chu wanna be when you grow up? I wanna be a mothafucking hustla, you better act somebody [Verse 2: King Lil G] Yo, I wish my father never met that woman Broke my family up, you should have fucking LEFT that woman I was eating cereal, my mama cried to sleep Remember the kisses I gave you on the side of your cheek? I made some promises that I will make accomplishments And I became a criminal, please accept my apologies I'mma get you out this, show these rappers what time it is Buy you the car you needed and have somebody to drive you in it My mama held my hand, standing at the bus stop Gave me the love I needed, the streets, covered in gun shots Stop making excuses and stop going to prison Cause people forget about chu when people don’t even visit This is for my young homies, thinking "There’s no way out" Throwing your life away, living broke, that shit is played out OG’s tell me stories 'bout life in the pen A dark cell, homies lost, doing heroin' (Ooooooh-ooooooh) (Heroin', heroin', heroin', heroin', heroin', heroin', heroin', heroin') [Hook: King Lil G & Chikk] (Oh, oh) I know it’s hard to grow up (Grow up, grow up) I know it’s hard to grow up (Oh, oh) But it’s time to grow up (Grow up, grow up) (I know it’s hard to grow up) I know it’s hard to grow up (I know it’s hard to grow up) But it’s time to grow up (Grow up, grow up) (But everybody gotta, everybody gotta grow up) (Grow up, grow up, grow up, grow up, grow up) [Bridge: Chikk] And if you fall, get back up And just remember, everybody gotta grow up And if you fall, get back up And just remember, everybody gotta grow up Grow up, grow up Everybody gotta grow up Everybody, everybody gotta grow up [Outro: King Lil G] Believe me homie, you can make it (Believe me homie, you can make it) (Believe me homie, you can make it) (Believe me homie, you can make it)
