Classic. Illmac 2-1. Rd 1- Pat. Rd2 - Illmac. Rd3 - Illmac. No one ever outwrites Illmac. Only a few can match him in freestyles/rebuttals. His only weakness is that he's sometimes not entertaining enough. Pat is an complete emcee, and is very hard to beat, but Illmac was just too prepared. He put in a lot of work and it showed. Just a flawlessly executed character assassination. It might be a bit early to say this, but as Soul remarked, this might be the highest quality title match I've ever seen from any league.

Lastly the 1000$ is laughable...while drakes lunch probably cost that...should be 5-10k range is fair for the kotd championship. Even though Illmac made his corny drinking game about Pat Stay licking his lips, it didn't throw Pat off and he completely overpowered the first round. He "predicted" that Pat Stay was gonna punk him for his size, but Pat broke him down as a man whilst Illmac was only rapping about his appearence. If you're gonna earn any points by "predicting" your opponent, you better come with less obvious angles yourself, otherwise it has zero effect. Finally, he predicted that Pat Stay was gonna have pre-written rebuttals about Calicoe and mocked him for it, which means that Pat knew what Illmac was gonna spit as well, the only difference is that he didn't try to get any cheap points for it. It all comes down to preference. Imo, a title match should me more than just a regular battle and shouldn't be decided by technical points only. I do, however, think Illmac won. But if Pat Stay spent another hour preparing for this and came with a hard, direct punchline in the third, I would've easily given him the win.

I go back and rewatch a handful of battles every now and then. I gotta say, to this day, that basement line, from Pat, in the first round, is still one of the absolute best bars in all of battlerap. It says so much more than your basic, or even some hard-hitting, punchlines. It's introspective, oddly murderous, frightening, and reflective of his peronal thoughts and feelings. The flow and cadence are well done, too. You can tell that bar really meant a lot more than what it was.

They've invested in the media infrastructure (hi-def cameras, macbook pro's, audio & editing software, etc) and from what I've heard people (judges, battle rappers) say - they run a professional shop in terms of logistics, treating the talent, booking hotels, paying fees, travel arrangements & coordination, etc - so that's a good look overall.
