I don't think there really is a difference but if I had to guess I would say that a socket beat is when they're just grooving in between songs and a pocket beat is when they sice it up a lil bit with just percussion leads but with more of a hyped up rythem.

Pocket has a closed hi-hat and socket has an open high hat..pocket usually has congos assisting the drums and socket usually has rototoms assisting.
