Most of what's learned in vet school is procedural like surgery etc. Anyone can study up on cat or dog health and learn a lot. The information is free. Your ex sounds obnoxious. Always liked that the salesman at the vet office was so honest about the 9220. You tend to expect a character in that profession to go on a rehearsed spiel to try and sell one of the things, but while he obviously wouldn't say no to a sale and is clear about the benefits (which is understandable, the commission he'd make would probably be insane) but he's not going to try and pressure anyone into buying something that would bankrupt them. It's another indicator of the type of business Hank prefers when even the people they do business with in turn are generally quite forthright in their dealings.

Actually most of the time is good to be honest when selling a product. Because it makes the customer feel more like they can trust you and if you are honest about numbers and name places. It makes it sound uniqe and people pay for that. At the end of the day marketing needs to be more truthful otherwise you are always running the risk of a law suit. They cathetered and sent him home with meds that only seemed to make matters worse, saying he might need permanent surgery to fix it, and after a month going back and forth not getting better and 5 thousand dollars sunk we figured something suspicious was going on and took our boy to a different vet down the road. New vet did a simple blood test and said our cat just had a really bad and untreated infection ("unexplained" inflammation my ass!), gave him antibiotics and now he's back to normal, took literally half an hour and a few hundred bucks to get actual results from an honest practitioner. She had to get her kidney's flushed every few days via an IV bag. Their mistake will cost her her life, and it's breaking my family's heart. She was in perfect health, had a little UTI and now she's gonna die... and they said sorry, and they've "changed their internal policies" to make sure it never happens again. I wonder how many other people they and other vets like them have, "changed internal policies" for. *Eyeroll* They're all sorry and we're all to poor to sue them into bankruptcy, which is where all vets like that ought to be.

Sadly there are veterinarians like this. Took my dog to an Emergency clinic once because he was super lethargic and thought he ate something that made him sick. They took X-rays said they saw bone fragments, wanted to keep him overnight and do an iodine trace and even offered surgery to cut open his stomach. I declined and next morning took him to my regular vet, they looked at the X-rays and said they didn't see anything concerning, and he probably just ate some rotten dead animal out in the woods and it upset his stomach. Took him to the vet twice and cost me up to $3,000 in tests, medication and observation. He got real sick again and we tried our own treatment. Turned out he was getting sick because he was eating too fast because his brother was bullying him at their food bowls. After quarantining him with chicken baby food & water and separating them into other rooms at mealtime he hasn't got sick since. The last straw was when other cat pulled his ACL and they recommended either removing the leg (because it won't heal right) or putting him down. Procedure would of cost $2,000 (max) and losing our 4 year old cat. My cat was the opposite of this. Always glad to see me, loved belly rubs and being on my lap. She was crazily attached to me, and if I was gone a while she'd run up and flump down to expose her belly when I got through the door. When she went to the vet the vet said it was the friendliest cat she'd ever seen and that she'd wander the counters purring and meowing while rubbing against things.

This is such a good portrayal of vets in general the amount of time we had this issue with the vet and my dogs. All the guilt trips pressuring us to get the expensive stuff because it was a sign that we did not love our dogs if we did not.
@jakegarrett81092 жыл бұрын
Yeah that would work opposite of me. If they told me it was going to cost above a certain amount for a pet I'd just take it home and either put it out of its mercy and bury it in a field, or let it suffer a while and see if it improves and gets over it with minimal intervention. My rather unintelligence dog for example had every leg broken at least once because it couldn't learn to not take naps under vehicles and was ran over 3 separate times. To be fair, I think it did it the third time because it was getting spoiled because we heated the garage when it was injured during the winter, but it got over it without any vets help and hobbled around for its stupidity. My own version of healthcare is wrapping some frozen expired hot dogs and bag of frozen burritos (I still ate the burritos) in a towel around my ankle and tying with a belt after a motorcycle injury. I'm not paying a copay unless its an actual emergency. Even if I've got blood running down my leg and filling my shoes, I'm just going to wear shorts and continue on having fun at skeet and trap practice just hours later. If that's good enough for a human, then its good enough for an animal (otherwise its just part of nature)

I had a vet who wanted to put my 14 year old lab on chemotherapy. For God’s sake, she’d already lived twice as long as labs are expected to, and he wanted me to put her in constant pain for $1000 a month! I keep coming back to this clip to keep perspective. Hank had a magnificent simple vet who put patients (humans and animals) first and got conned by a money-grubbing vet with expensive toys. Meanwhile, my simple vet kept insisting my old dog's pained face and lethargy were just arthritis and sent us home with only lighter wallets, while a vet with expensive toys was able to confirm she had cancer and turned her back into a puppy. I got extremely lucky when I chose a vet with expensive toys. Hank's issues with Duke remind me be thankful for that good fortune.

there was a comma between eat and shit and you know it. cats are actually very clean animals. they don't need to be trained to not shit in the house, they instinctually bury their shit to hide its scent. yea they vomit but only when they get hairballs from constantly cleaning themselves all the time, or after eating grass to clean their teeth.

The problem was he would go "bankrupt" if he did bought the 9220 machine because the 7% accurate would benefit the customers more than the vet himself, also depending your pet and the age of your pet you as an owner would know what to expect if your pet is either sick, having bladder problems, cancer, then it would be time put your pet down but still yea the scammer vet should've been pressured to buying the 9220 because he scammed everyone including Hank in this episode and also it's the pet owners responsibility to take care of their own pet not a patriotic civilian.

I think it is mostly the mentality of the owner. All my cats have been VERY loyal. It´s just a matter of how you treat them. Cats are more like people - they value their independence. Dogs on the other hand have a pack mentality and crave attention and acceptance. Getting a cat to respond to commands is more a matter of mutual respect, whereas with a dog it´s more about cultivating obedience. Problem is I think most people tend to treat their cats as if they were dogs.
