As an amateur with woodworker, i typically feel overpowered with the entire arrangement kzbin.infoUgkxrYREG3-7f1Aqk9ams3ZESRNzGnfdUtyQ . Be that as it may, this arrangements drove me through with much clarity and effortlessness woodplans. Works i now work like a genius. That is great!

That’s an extremely well built door, looks great. I have to admit I would have rather you didn’t paint it and just used something like an exterior hard wax oil instead but I see why you did it. And I appreciate it, anyway the main thing is the comforting fact that there is a super solid durable wood underneath which will last decades

Love the door 👍I built a covered front porch and used clear redwood 6x6 columns.. I got the same response when I painted them.. I used redwood because it handle rot well.. love your channel no BS 👍😊

I made sapele door a few years back. Watching your video gave me a great sense of satisfaction- in that I used many of the same techniques. It was my first exterior door build. Everything i did was self taught. Some skill and a lot of luck on my end. Very brittle wood is right.Anyway. Fantastic job! Thank you.

I agree with you Joey, if in the end you are satisfied with what you have made and got your time's worth, it's a job well done! We're not always entitled to do the most beautiful thing for everyone's pleasure, to each their own! Great work as always! Cheers
i dont know if this will help but I had a similar problem with a matched router bit set and it turned out my router was set slightly crooked in the table. i put a 1/2" rod in the router and at a foot above the table it was 3/16" out of square. this was enough to mess up the match. after shimming to square the bits worked perfectly

Just some friendly advice. Stay away from the fox joint on a door; there’s a reason why the Japanese call it a “hell joint.” Through tapered wedges is the way of the old masters as it offers a greater mechanical lock, without the possibility of something going south. Also, if you use lock dowels, you should be using two with an offset on your upper and lower rails. Accordingly, your tenons should be sized to accommodate such a configuration. That sometimes entails making one tenon wider than the other. When I was working as an apprentice many many years ago, I asked the master craftsmen why we were using through wedges and not just lock dowels? He grinned and replied, “Because those wedges are what hold the door together.” Indeed, sometimes a client won’t want exposed joinery but I always manage to convince them otherwise. That’s why I sometimes use a different species of wood for the wedges so it looks better. Sapele is good; Sipo (Utile) is far better. I’ve made hundreds of doors and can assure you of Sipo’s superiority. All the old masters I’ve spoken to agree. Like I said... just some friendly advice.
@davearonow655 жыл бұрын
Hundreds of doors? I have a big door project going on and I could use some advice from someone with that much experience. First of all, is there a one stop shop, to get a ton of door making info, i.e. a book, video, website, etc that you reccomend?
@bethoughtprovoking5 жыл бұрын

@davearonow655 жыл бұрын
@@bethoughtprovoking thank you.
@bethoughtprovoking5 жыл бұрын
davearonow , Making doors is relatively easy. How easy depends on what kind of door you want to make and what tools and equipment you’ll be using. I don’t know of books or videos on door making simply because I never needed that kind of instruction; however, I have seen videos on KZbin that I would strongly urge against. You see, anyone can show you how to do something; but the point is how to do it reliably and correctly. That said, let me know what kind of doors you plan on making and the tools at your disposal and I can give you step-by-step instruction. As I said, the process is not that difficult, but there are a few “tricks of the trade” that you should be aware of.
