The story behind the two Kings of California Avocados.
I should have added that the Fuerte was located in Mexico by Schmidt in 1911 and brought to California where it actually survived the Great Freeze in 1913 which is why it was named "Fuerte."

My vote goes to Pinkerton. Great fruit and better size tree.

In my last video the Pinkerton was slightly better than the Hass.

Hi Frank, I am curious why Pinkerton for you. Have you tried some prime quality Sharwil, Jan Boyce, Nabal, Edranol, etc ?

Can't speak for Frank but at that level it seems to be preference (like beer or wine). Unfortunately I haven't had all the ones you listed but I have had JB and Nabal.

Yeah, these were the bottom of the big Fuertes. I suppose I got the ugly ducklings or the tree is on the coast? Not sure but they sure tasted just like Fuerte. Appreciate the feedback!

I like and grow fuerte it's known to be alternate bearing a large spreading tree, my fuerte is not that cold hardy not sure why it got the the reputation of cold hardy, I mean it's not like a real bad like Nabal but no where near as cold hardy as a Duke or Aravaipa.

Interesting feedback! It seems to handle high heat well but I wouldn't be surprised if the name comes from it being a strong and huge tree! One in South Africa on Rossi's Bonsai channel is 30 feet tall and 50 feet wide!

@@growyourownavocados That's pretty large my biggest one is 6 feet tall but no flowers this year, I found a 2 year old bacon seed tree ungrafted had flowers on it today if it sets any fruit this year I will be super surprised.

I believe the name came because a Fuerte came back and recovered when most other trees didn't in the 1913 Freeze.

@@growyourownavocados yes I heard that also but too some people they translate that old story as cold hardy, which fuerte is not, there are much better cold hardy types out there.

These were the last of Fuertes at the farmers market so they didn't look perfect and seemed to have persea mite on the skin. No one else wanted them and I bought them all. The flavor was exactly the same. I grew up on Fuerte.

Perhaps the tree was in a cold location or it is a sport of Fuerte?
