I’m the guy at 3:11 in the blue hoodie and black hat. It was a magical time. Before the second album, they played some songs from the upcoming album At the time. I can remember it being just an amazing time. I have this recorded on VHS.

Wow! Good friend of mine has this in his Top 5 KOL songs of all-time. After watching this, I see why.
@alantroup14693 жыл бұрын
I agree. This is one of KOL's best and my favorite song they perform live. I saw the boys' perform this song at The 9:30 Club in Washington DC in 2005 in front of maybe 200-300 people. I was standing on the balcony next to this really attractive and (seemingly) nice & subtle but definitely tall blond gal. I'm 6'1" and she was taller than me although maybe she was wearing boots since it was during the colder time of the year.?.? After the song was over, we just so happened to look at each other and we were both tearing up. Then, we went our separate ways. Magical. Here is the (rather poor quality) audio of the show in DC released by our National Public Radio (NPR) in 2020. I think I need to listen to it again now. Thanks for your post, Ms. Angie.

If you were lucky enough to see this song live on their MB tour... There's no going back to the old days, they are on a level far beyond that. 10 years later and this song is unbelievably better live.

The guitars sound so dirty, Caleb’s voice is gruff and on point. Southern rock baby. Will forever love this song, all the way back as a teen when this came out.

I've loved all their music up until Walls. Walls just didn't real do it for me. Angelo wasn't a part of it and they didn't do the 5 syllable title with it. Almost no sound from their roots. I HATE to say it, but Walls is definitely a sell out sounded album man. We can only hope for old gold.
@martintube247 жыл бұрын
We Are Like Love Songs = W A L L S. I didn't read any of their interviews this summer apart from one but I believe it's the same reason as why they've stopped working with Ethan Jones. The sound from their roots will never return. Growing up I breathed indie rock and guitar music 24/7 but ever since I discovered Editors I can't even force myself to listen to indie bands like The Vaccines, The Wombats, Kaiser Chiefs etc. Have a look at MUSE for example. They used most of the good riffs there were around and now they keep making the same music, relying on similar music but that music will never sound as good as their former stuff. It sounds like a band imitating Muse. Hell, even Royal Blood sounds more Muse than the band itself. Walls is not that good and I agree.. When I first heard OVER I was blown away but later after a few listens I realized the song, along with most of them on the album were weak. It's a perfect album to listen to when you wanna relax or in your car, but it doesn't sound as emotional as their other albums. But still, in their defense not many bands can release 7 albums and all of them to sound just as good. They don't say "The future of the world belongs to the youth of the world" for nothing. Kings of Leon will be replaced by some new bands, some new kids who are going to have an extraordinary story (although not as extraordinary as theirs) who fill arenas just like they did. Catfish and the Bottlemen seem to be very popular and they released their debut around 2014? Times change, but at least no one can take these videos that we watch here and the memories away from us (unless third party claims/copyrights lol) so yeah. Kings of Leon forever!
@TheAerosmith37 жыл бұрын
Good comment man, and WOW! I didn't realize WALLS stood for that, that's kick ass. The old sound definitely won't return. I mean, you're right, they're older ya know. Plus they don't do all the drugs they used to do I'm sure. WALLS has some okay stuff but nothing over the top. Mechanical Bull wasn't TOO bad either but WALLS is just way different. But bands can't retain the same sound that's very true. Though on Mechanical Bull I did hear a lot of older influence in some of the songs.
@martintube247 жыл бұрын
Thanks, man.. Well, yes. Matthew himself said that at one point they all decided it was about time to stop with the drugs. He even said he wasn't even drinking that much as he used to so yeah.. I used to like Mechanical Bull a lot cause I discovered that album when I was finishing my first year at Uni. but as time progressed I kind of found it bland. The song just don't move me anymore, apart from maybe Comeback Story. At that point I loved it, though. Tonight was probably my favourite. I leave that to you because just like Kings of Leon say themselves "We are still discovering new bands so we can't talk about music like some people do in terms of "Their first album sounded better than their last one etc" I'm still relatively a new fan of them so I'm still learning ha!
@TheAerosmith37 жыл бұрын
Tonight was a cool song but you're right on the album my dude. KoL has some really sweet stuff though. If you don't know, at the end of the YYM album "Talihina Sky" comes on after Holy Roller Novocaine ends. California Waiting has two sweet versions. And it's all pretty rad. Rock on my man

I just had the strangest thought...could it be that these guys still had that Pentecostal fervor because they had so recently left the church and still had some of that "fire" especially in the music. Jerod looks a little like he is doing the dance that you see in a lot of Pentecostal churches on a Sunday night. Now that they are so far removed from that Spirit there is very little fire left. I haven't seen them "cut a rug" in quite a while. I know, I was in the UPC and those folks can dance!
