In this episode we’ll met more Stuarts monarchs, one who inspired the Red wedding Scene in Game of Thrones, another who’s vendetta against his uncle, Henry VIII cost him his life, and Mary Queen of Scots, who plotted to assassinate her cousin, Elizabeth I and lost her head for it.

That's going to be complicated, since Wales and Ireland never had a unified monarchy until England conquered them. There were monarches who claimed to be or had de facto control as Prince of Wales or High King of Ireland, but there was no consistency and some were even legendary figures.

@@anamariagrigore5747 This saying comes from the Bible (Ecclesiastes 10:16). It means that a nation that is governed by a child (or by a childish adult) usually suffers from all of the effects of a bad government - including injustice for the common people, high taxes, rising prices, poverty, a weak military, and even civil war. Scotland suffered badly because so many of its kings came to the throne when they were very young.

Hey Lindsey! Last week I commented the idea for a video on the five Romanov curses and had some ideas on how to make the topic into a longer/ more substantial video! I was thinking a video about Russian jewels, gowns, the costume ball of 1903, or, my personal fav, royal and noble curses! You could do the five Romanov curses, the koh-i-nor curse, Marie Antionette's Hope Diomond curse, the Coburg curse (causing the hemophilia gene!?), or the Hesse curse, just to name a few. I love your videos, they are a highlight of my week, and am so glad you have posted two Tuesday's AND Friday's in a row. Love this series!!!

It isn’t true that Mary was more focused on England than on Scotland. She was very involved in running her country and also exercised religious tolerance. It isn’t a fact that Dudley was Elizabeth’s “boyfriend”. There is no proof but only assumed by some. Mary wasn’t always housed in luxury when imprisoned in England, in fact the houses became progressively worse and are believed to have contributed to her increasing bad health

@@lfgifu296 : there is no conclusive evidence, that elizabeth and dudley did or did not have sex..., its from the courtiers at the court, we get rummours and gosip of * dudley being the favourite of the queen*, also the scandal of the death of dudley's wife, it was as explosive you could say, all around europe..., despite it obviously being censored in england to the assination of secetary & courtier: david rizzio & king of scots... henry lord darnley..., equally scandalous & shocking... ofc the films about , queen elizabeth I either dont feature amy dudley death, or the reaction all around europe, they just concentrate on victory of spanish armada, also unkown or not talked about, are elizabeth english & welsh noble relatives, especially those who were catholic..., this really complicated the image of elizabeth as the glorious virigin queen, with no backstory or lovelife... becoming elizabeth , the recent drama, goes some of the way, in exploiring, a semi factual-dramatic purposes narrative, of elizabeth at her most vunerable and the early relationship with dudley... dudley and elizabeth could not marry, a morgantic marriage with a english noble, not a foreign royal match for diplomacy, was unheard of and would have been scandalous... kings and queens did not marry for love in the medieval age, ambition, & maintance of power were far more important, keeping the dynasty going... if you compare this with, the portyal of queen mary stewart of scots.. its more tragic, and her life is seen as a *greek tragedy*, sometimes writers and filmakers, or even tv shows like reign*.. do not explain, that scotland had a *system of established regencies* of mary of scots relatives, long before she was born, and long after she was deposed, it was further complicated by the earlier hundred years war, wars of relgion, the auld alliance and ambition and rule of nobles like * regent arran-Earl of hamilton...* uncrowned king of scots.... in all but name... england too had a few * regencies , but they are mostly forgotten.. even edward III & henry VIII had regencies during their rule... MAYBE LINDSAY CAN DO A VIDEO OF THE *REGENTS OF SCOTLAND* and the children of the various monarchs, descendants.., clans etc & ENGLAND.... the title of *lord protector of the realm* & Lord regent of england*

Ahem..It’s not unusual in history for there to be different versions of occurrences. It’s not unusual to find one history book state one thing and find another book denying anything took place! Wen it comes to certain topics we just don’t 100 percent know exactly what happened. You can also create your own history channel with all the information you have and I guarantee 150 percent someone will still comment that you got something wrong 🤷🏻‍♀️ but go ahead correct everyone have fun

She said it herself in her authors note that that’s the great thing about historical fiction. They’re were a fair amount of things in there that were true, though. I’m not really a big fan of that particular novel, but I like a few of the others.

Queen Elizabeth did not set the precendent of one monarch executing another. That one felll to Charles of Anjou, King of Sicily/Naples over 300 years before that, when he had Conradin, Duke of Swabia, King of Jerusalem and rightful King of Sicily executed with Conradin only being 16 years of age. Plus Mary should have gone to France where she could have asked her former in-laws and/or her Guise uncles for help in order to restore her to the Scottish throne and/or get rid of Elizabeth and make Mary the new Queen of England and Ireland

The video said Elizabeth was wary of setting the precedence of one monarch executing another, not that she set it. And presumably it was a reference to setting a precedence in England as there have been regicides done by monarchs since antiquity (for eaxmple Mithridates VI of Pontus killed Ariarathes VII of Cappadocia in 100BC)

Hey Lindsay! Just wanted to say how much I’ve enjoyed this series so far. As an American who now lives in Scotland, it’s helped me with historical contexts that everyone around me seems to already know (including my Scottish husband)! 😂 I’m also super impressed with how well you’ve pronounced most words. It’s clear that you’ve worked hard to make your pronunciations accurate. That said, I’ve noticed a small few mispronunciations in this and previous videos that you might want to correct, given your excellent track record so far. (No shame intended-I’ve been a victim of these same mistakes before! It’s a consequence of our accent, I believe 😅) 1) “Moray” is pronounced more like “Murray” - The emphasis is on the second syllable, not the first. And the first syllable is more like “Mur”/“Merr” instead of “Mor”/“Mohr.” So you say “mur-RAY” instead of “MOR-ay” 2) “Berwick” is pronounced “Berrick” - the w is silent (this one still catches me out if I’m not careful!) 3) You were pronouncing the first syllable in “Lothian” (in a prior video) as if it rhymed with the word “oath” but it actually is pronounced more like the work “loathe.” So it should be “loathe-ian.” I hope that is helpful and please keep up the fabulous work!! Again, I sympathise with the American accent struggle because I experienced it daily. 😅 But you’ve really done an outstanding job of those are the only 3 mistakes I noticed. ❤

very interesting but unfortunately you are going to fast through the Scottish monarchs who were every bit as interesting and powerful in their own right to the monarchs of other countries in particular that of England. Whose monarchy is glorified and deemed better than others in fact quite the opposite. Whilst i love the Stewart/Stuart/ Tudors period . The Stewart/Stuarts are far more interesting having produced 15 monarchs to the Tudors 5 and ruled for 343 to 118 years. 12 Stewart/Stuart Kings and 3 Queens. I would strongly suggest when making your trip to Scotland, if not already done so to read up on the Stewarts dynasty particularly in Scotland before union with England, when they latterly ignored Scotland which ultimately cost them their Crowns. I equally advise to become better acquainted with the real facts about Mary Queen of Scots ( Queen Mary I) you will learn a greater and more balanced history of and about Queen Mary ( MQOS) and the problems she encountered and who was ultimately betrayed by those who should have protected her and helped her did but did not. Equally you will find despite the anti Catholic propaganda by zealots and traitors. The Scottish people rose on several occasions to their Queens banner in her times of need. fleeing to England whilst it was the best option at the time ultimately proved to be a mistake and rendered the Scottish people unable to help their Queen. Had Queen Mary being allowed to return to Scotland there is every reason to believe the Scottish people would have railled to her again.
