It's called a 4 post lift Bridge it used to be the only access to the Isle of sheppey and it carrys the rail track aswell.. it lifts the entire road to allow boats to pass, before this was built there was a wooden bridge and boats would hit into it all the time and cause alot of damage and so they had to come up with a much better idea and this Bridge was born

I have never heard of this bridge before, so thanks for filming it. I wonder how many moving / tilkting / lifting bridges there are in the UK .. do you know ? There's a tilting bridge near me, on the river Tyne at Newcastle, although it is officially called The Gateshead Millennium Bridge

The lights have a very strange pattern of flashing, not a continuous steady left-right-left . . . but seem to go into a longer cycle. I wonder why?

It is just the shutter on my camera, the lights will look normal with the human eye but not through a camera.

@@RileysTransportVideos I did wonder if it was that (aliasing due to frequency difference) - but when I watched carefully, it was such an unusual and complex pattern of flashing I dismissed that thought. I have never seen such a complex aliasing pattern and am struggling to see how it is generated!

Typical car brains going through on a red flashing lights!! Get the reg number, have it lifted and sent off to the crushers, they won't do it again!!

None of them really want to wait 14 minutes 😂 I'm not really sure why anyone drives cars over this bridge when it's right next to the new Sheppey Crossing which doesn't need to lift (fear, perhaps?). Of course, it's still the only way on and off the island for pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders and trains.

@@mattallen9564 I live in Manchester but have family on the Island, I know how it is with that crossing.

@@mattallen9564 did you hear about the new lift Bridge construction between Eccles and Trafford,, during construction some of the cables failed and the dual carriage way deck simply collapse. One on the 4 columns was so damaged that it had to be rebuilt.. this was to provide a way to take traffic away from the old Barton Swing bridge.
