One of the nicest machines I've ever seen and I've been doing this for a long time. Obviously, a lot of thought (and experience) went into the making of this unit. It's built like a tank, so it should last a very long time and it is designed for an easy fix if something does go wrong. I appreciate how it is made from around this area. Customer service should be simple, if needed. Time to open up some of those agates.

Thanks for a great video. First let me say I am a loyal customer of Kingsley North and I have found some great agates on the drive over and back from the eastern end of the UP. I've worn out my first cab machine it cost a little more than the Cabber 6 I just ordered. I did recover the cost of the first cab machine in only two months and it lasted just over three years of a lot of use. The downside is to repair this cab machine would cost almost as much as buying a brand new Cabber 6. Soooo my new Cabber 6 is on the way. You must do a lot of cabbing to wear a machine out in only three years. Hopefully this one lasts a lot longer. It really looks like it is highly repairable in the case that something wears out. I really like how it can take any motor as long as it's the right size. 1/3 HP motors are pretty easy to come by.

I have the same pump and one suggestion I would recommend to make it last a long time is to split the line and run a second short hose back into the clean water button. Eases the stress on the pump especially when no valves are open on your machine. Great review, I think you have me sold.

I was wondering about how the pump does with all the valves turned off. I was unplugging it when I had the valves turned off for longer periods of time. Does the pump have enough power to pump to the cab machine with a second hose flowing at the same time?

That was a great review ! I’ve always wanted to see one of these in action. I take it that the coolant water is always clean water and the used water drains off into a bucket. It looks like it’s very well made and I didn’t see a thing about it that I didn’t like. Yeah that should make quick work of doing Petoskey stones. Thanks, David. Yes, there are two buckets, one with clean water and one with dirty water. I haven't found anything that I don't like either, other than maybe the placement of my dirty water bucket.

They're great! I used to teach on them. As long as you use a clean towel and don't dip your cab in the water tray, you avoid many scratches. Helps to wash you hands and the cab in running water each time you move up a wheel.

I've used both. I love the Kingsley because you can set the water up so you are not using dirty water, just like you said. Secondly, you have a bit more room when you're cabbing. We set our up with a water line so we don't have to use a bucket up top and keep refilling it. We put in a drain in front that empties the water outside. Easy peasey. The only thing we don't like is polishing wheels that are all metal. Glad to see you didn't get them. You're right about the squirters. We were instructed to change the water each time we moved up a wheel. Pain in the keister! Students who didn't, ended up with scratches. I also rinse the cab and wash my hand when changing wheels. Add a clean cloth, and you get a killer cab, just like you did.

I didn't rinse between wheels, but I have in the past. Thanks for the reminder. Did you run water directly from your faucet? Other than the hose that would have to run across the floor, that's not a bad idea. I don't love how I have the drain hoses set up at all. I might have to build a new bench next to the sink on the other side of the room. That could be a problem though because then I'd have to clean up that side of the room to make it presentable for my videos. Hmmm...

Our club had six of them for our members to use. I taught, and my brother did the installations and maintenance. I know they ran a pvc water line behind the row of machines. We drilled a hole through the wall behind row of machines which drained into a channel, then outside through the hole in the wall. But, we live in Florida, so we don't have to worry about ice. Do you have a drain in your basement floor or whatever building you're in? I'll ask Dave for more info on the water. You don't really need to read the instruction book. You make great cabs.

@@debbiemeyer6396 Thanks Debbie. I am sort of self taught. The guy who sold it to me made one for me and another friend made one once so I could see. Otherwise, my learning has been from the Internet. I don't know if there's a right and wrong way to do things, but I've worked out a method that works for me. One thing I have trouble with is just above the girdle line. Sometimes I miss a little spot. I really haven't made that many cabs up to this point, so it's just something I need to practice as I make more. I'm already thinking about moving the cabber to the other side of the room next to the sink. I have a big banquet table there now, but I might have to build something new over there. Then I can run water right from the sink and drain off the back of the new counter/table. I need to think about it for a bit to decide exactly what I want.

I like how clean and simple it is built. The biggest bonus is the separate motor. Having a Genie in my shop, the motor going out is something I always worry about. Even though I have a blue cabbing machine with a separate motor, I wouldn't mind getting one of those Kingsley North models. Also those Nova Wheels are great once the wheels get broken in!

Oh and btw it’s now 8 barrels and we just were able to purchase a used genie and then a tile saw we hope to be able to put a different blade in to use like a trim saw. It’s a Diamond blade in it but it’s too thick and doesn’t slice smoothly. Do you know anything about if that’ll work? Switching out the blade on a tile saw?

Very helpful! I wasn’t sure about going with KN vs CabKing. Knowing this is made in the Great Lakes Region helped me decide. I also liked how you were happy with the 6” wheel-wasn’t sure about 6” vs 8”. I sure wish you has polished a petoskey on it, wouldn’t have taken too long. I’m tired of using my slanted flat lap. It is rough on your hands.

Fun video. I have tons of questions, but they're general curiosity, I doubt I'll ever be getting myself that toy. You never know though. I did come to your page for a specific reason today, this was a pleasant surprise. I have been meaning to ask for a while now if you could do a video showing tips & techniques for using a rotary tool to grind away problem areas on tumbling stones. I just barely started doing that myself (like today), first thing I did was go through stuff I already tumbled to get rid of the spots I didn't like. A lot of them I saw that they were going to need work before I tumbled them, but I've only been doing this about 7 months or so, and the early 2 or 3 batches were purely experimental. I'd like to see how you approach different types of flaws on the stones, be it shallow cracks, or whatever you call it when they almost lose a flake but don't, softer surface material removal, stuff like that. Sort of a what grinding tips to use in what conditions and removal techniques type of dealie. Oh, before I forget: when you set up the drain tubes it looked like the one that ran across the back of the rig was super close to the motor, I know that stuff melts easy and I'm not sure how hot it gets. You probably moved it off camera, but just to be sure I figured I'd say something.

Hey Ken. I have two Dremels. One is almost always mounted in a drill press attachment, used for drilling small holes. I also use that one to rough up two tumbled rock surfaces that I plan to glue together, like with my little turtles. The other one almost always has a felt wheel in it for polishing Petoskey stone with Zam. That's about all I use them for. I don't know if I've ever removed a bad spot on a rock with one. To remove bad spots on rocks, I use several methods. Sometimes I use a trim saw and either cut something off or use the edge of the blade as a grinder. Other times I'll use a cab machine or flat lap to grind a spot off. And if the rock has an obvious crack going more through the middle, I use a hammer and chisel or an old screwdriver if it's a smaller rock or crack. I'll put this on my list of videos to make, but I have a lot of other videos I plan to make first. I am always open to suggestions. Thanks for the tip on the hose and motor. I made sure it was away from the belt, but didn't think about the motor getting hot.

Tumblers are like a gateway drug. Eventually, people who really get into tumbling usually end up buying saws and cab machines. This is a great machine.

Nova wheels are the best quality wheels. There's really no debate that they're high quality. I think they last longer too, but I'm not 100% sure about that. When you wear out your first set of wheels, you can always give Nova and Galaxy wheels a try.

I don't think I have ever rested my wrists in the past. I found myself starting to rest them as I used this new machine. It really helps steady your hands so you can do more precise work.

Hi Rob! I think I watched this 3 times then a friend and I took the plunge and ordered - yay!! Would you ever consider a short video on how you clean the machine? Tips and tricks on maintenance? For starters I’m curious if you rinse it out at the end of every day you’re done using it… is that necessary? Would love your input!!

I don't think that's worthy of a video, but I'd be glad to explain what I do. I start by tipping up the front and sticking a little chunk of 2x4 under it. That helps the water drain out the back. In my case, I run the hoses around to the front and they don't set flat on the counter very well. It would be much better if they ran off the back the counter or off the side. So I have to hold the hoses down so they drain well. After most of the water is drained, I sop of the rest of it with a sponge and get the rock dust at the same time. Then I tip the whole thing up and wipe up any water under the board. Sometimes there's some water that gets behind it too. The whole clean up process takes about five minutes. I clean it up after every use. I don't see any reason to take a chance on any rust or water logged wood. Not that it should rust since it's stainless steel. I just like to keep it looking as good as possible.

The handle is called a "dop stick". It's just a wooden dowel. I have a dop pot, which is a little electric pot that heats wax. It's hot wax that holds the stick to the back of the rock. I have a flat lap too. Cabbing machines are way easier to make cabs with. Flat laps work well for polishing whole Petoskey stones, and this machine would work equally well, except that you don’t have to keep changing laps, all the different wheels are ready at any time.

Also just wanted to throw out an Idea about your old machine I don't know if you even want to be bothered with it my Idea is take the old machine apart take the outside case with you go to a Refrigeration shop that does custom stainless steel work like big walk in the Idea 💡 would if they could make a Duplicate of your outside case and some of the other parts that aren't stainless steel it might coast alot but maybe you could trade some of your cabs for the work. Also when you ran your old machine it sounded like it might need new bearing I was watching it and had a little wable to me. I'm going now thanks for the great demo of your new machine Ray in Idaho

I think that doing what you suggest would get pretty expensive in a hurry. I think it needs new bearings and that will go a long ways toward making it quieter and smoother. I plan to pass it along to someone else who is just getting started in the hobby, like I was when I acquired it. I have a couple people in mind already.

I'm weird and prefer to polish my petoskey stones by hand. For those times when I'm in a rush I use my Diamond Pacific pixie. It works great. You will love that machine for petoskey stones. When I upgrade I'm going to get the same machine or the 8".

That drive belt is about the only issue down the road, you would have to take the shaft out to change it. I have a backhoe like that and one needs to take out the driveshaft to the Hydraulic pump to change he water pump/alternator belt. One day job. Now one can buy the pieced segmented belts that can be disassembled without taking the shaft out.. Many say they are quieter and smoother running. The mfg. would do you well to use a automotive belt with segments or cogs, would run quieter rather than the FHP belt I see on there.

I took my old one apart completely when I got it because it was rusty and I repainted it. I don't remember it being too bad to disassemble, although it took some time if I remember correctly. I've heard some good things about those segmented belts too. Something to look into. I think they're more expensive though.

Hi Rob, What is your verdict after using it for a few months? I'm torn getting this machine vs. CabKing 6v3. There aren't many reviews on the KN Cabber 6 out there since it's relatively new. I really like the spacing of the wheels and it's stainless. The water pump system is a big improvement to the previous version of KN cabber.

I really like it a lot. There have been two issues that have come up since I made this video. The first is that the felt pads over the wheels on the left side wore through pretty quickly. Kingsley North sent me some replacements without me even asking. They are not having problems with the eight inch machines or the six inch machine with the Kingsley wheels, just this one. They're working on a fix. The other issue is that there was a lot of water under the machine when I'd finish using it. I tip it up to drain it, and the water would pour off the plywood. It was a bit of a pain to sponge it up. They have fixed this by adding rubber gaskets around the top of the machine, under the top cover. They send me the gaskets and it's much better now. There's still some water from the wheels on the ends, but that seems unavoidable. My old machine did the same thing. You might think that they're sending these fixes out to me since I'm using this machine for a lot of people to see, but I have a friend who is getting the same treatment and he doesn't have a KZbin channel. I think they really care about their customers and want this machine to be the best that it can be. I'm very impressed with this company. I was looking at the Cab King too, but I didn't like that the motor wasn't replaceable with any motor that I chose. I'd have to buy a new motor from them if something went wrong. They might last for many years, but I think I'd worry about it.

I think those areas are more like chalcedony than quartz. I guess Chalcedony is quartz, but you know what I mean. There are definitely some translucent parts in some of the slabs.

Hi Rob, another great video! I'm planning on purchasing the Standard Cabber 6 based on your review (I can't afford the upgraded wheel version). Prior to purchasing however, I'm going to build a workstation to house the Cabber as well as other rock polishing equipment. How do you run your water supply for the Cabber 6? Is there a bucket filled below and that green pump is submerged and brings the water up to the machine? Or, are you using a dedicated water supply line connected to the pump? Also, do you simply catch the run off from the waste hoses in a separate bucket and then discard? I've watched your other video showing your lapidary equipment setup but couldn't see how you ran the water supply for your old cabber. You keep a very clean and neat workspace. I hope to be able to do the same! Any help appreciated.

I have two buckets on the floor. I pump water from one to the cab machine and drain water into the other. At some point, I would like to move it to the other side of the room and hook up directly to a faucet.

great video as always I asked you a while back where to get polish you suggested Kingsley north since then that’s where I buy everything their catalog is my wish book I go circle all the stuff I dream of owning like a kid with the sears catalog and your parents tell you to circle a few items so Santa Claus can pick one out, I would love to own one of these but I can’t justify buying one as it’s not something that will bring any money into the house I just love polishing rocks and finding stones I have a pail full that my dad and I found and he passed away and I have a great idea for something to make but these are just too expensive for me do you know of a cheaper cabbing machine or another website for amateurs for another way to get similar results tumbling is great it’s fun ya never know what’s gonna happen in the barrels but I’ve always wanted a cab king or something similar what about that one on the right ya got there is that for sale 😂 any advice at all will be greatly appreciated I also have some raw rocks from Kingsley north I’d love to start working on I absolutely love their website and catalog and your videos thanks and if ya ever need someone to hit the beach with I can be to your town in 1.5-2 hours go blue
