I’ve been using that trick with different pedals at home. I’ve been using a fulltone OCD for that for the last few days. I didn’t think I was gonna like it. I thought it was a heavy overdrive pedal but I run it clean ish and it sounds good. I found it on CL super cheap. I usually just have a fuzz and roll the volume down most of the time for bedroom volume

I would be super pissed if I lost 3 amps in succession, especially vintage amps. On the other hand, it's nice to see people push vintage amps rather than baby them and worrying about value. I bought my amps to play, so I have common failure spare parts. Your wah sounds amazing. I looked for the video where you said what you had done to it, but couldn't find it. I have an old Vox that really needs help. My old Crybaby sounds great, but not as nice as yours. With that vibe running I thought you were going to play Machine Gun, had the tone of the live version. My absolute favorite of Jimi. Anyway, your 4th string backup has a great sound with that boost pushing it.

Nik, use foam ear plugs, as a musician, you need to protect your ability to hear music accurately. I still love it loud, your can feel the sound waves hit your body, but I started noticing that my left ear was about 10% weaker than my right ear. I learned the hard way. Pete Townsend is nearly deaf, some things we should learn from other people's mistakes. I use the 32 db or 33 db, just from the grocery store shelf. about $5 for 5 pairs. I q-tip my ears after every daily shower, so one pair can be used for a week or more, or you can use a fresh pair every day. In most arenas it makes the sound mix more detailed, less accidental echo.

You should never put a qtip in your ears , ever !

@steviesynapse4 жыл бұрын
The Riff w Nik Sevigny Sorry Nik, I realise I quickly posted that response without adding much context after reading another comment on your ‘SRV tone at any volume’ video from a fellow subscriber who was obviously concerned about your hearing and the volumes you were playing at. As a guitar player who has had tinnitus and high frequency hearing loss for decades caused by playing at volumes, I think there is sometimes a cruel irony in what we often unwittingly do as musicians while exposing ourselves and others to high volumes in the process of doing what we love to do, namely making music and communicating this aurally with other human beings. The cruel irony is that this process sometimes unintentionally causes damage and problems to the very medium we use to do this - our hearing! Tinnitus and hearing damage has wrecked the lives and sometimes careers of many fellow musicians, who either thought it wouldn’t happen to them or didn’t know it could happen to them (I’d never even heard of tinnitus until I got it). Modern PA systems and musicians hearing protection / earplugs, now make tinnitus and hearing damage avoidable, and that was essentially my message. I started listing some of the musicians (many of them my heroes) I knew also had tinnitus and hearing loss to give some examples and context to the scope of the problem, I decided I better stop at 40! Whether we like acknowledging or talking about it or not, tinnitus and hearing loss is a massive issue for amateur and professional musicians. So in finishing Nik, apologies if my comment all felt a bit negative, It wasn’t meant to be, it was purely intended to be a ‘cautionary tale’ to help us all keep playing and doing what we love, while enjoying your positivity and guitar passionate channel. Great videos, great information, great playing, keep on keeping on!
