I’m 66 and used only water for years and boy did I look it. My face in the wild was a sad sack. It’s only since the pandemic that I learned what’s available and I have remodeled my skin completely. Age spots are gone, wrinkles diminished and there’s a luminescence to my skin that I haven’t had in decades. These actives mean business. I hope you have better luck with skin fasting than I did.

Yes my face is better with skincare. Period. I had to stop all during Covid when I got dermatitis. My skin took a hit. I don’t use tons, I don’t spend a fortune, but it’s now necessary. Skin is our bodies largest organ. I won’t ignore it. My face is on the same pillowcase as my hair. It needs a wash in the a.m.! I was exposed to who knows what and sweat during the day. The face needs a wash in the p.m. it’s not consumerism at all.

I am 46 and I haven’t used anything until I was around 40-42!! I had the money, but I am different culture and was taught not to, it’s a waste!!l Well, I think young people shouldn’t need to use it, just as I was taught, but when you age, use it instead of needles!😊 I think it matters when you use it!!! 😊

You nailed it. Sunlit Seduction feels like a step above a quad because it’s larger and has some sparkly shadows, but not like a Mothership. That is exactly how I feel. The baked shades are just so versatile. You can take one and put it over any shimmer and it transforms the look entirely. It’s fun and exciting. These MS XI special shades don’t do that. They can’t. 😢 I have all of her quads but one, so I love her regular formulas. They are great. I love the formulas she’s put in the 5 pans. I’m a fan! But to me I’m going to need at least a 40% discount to get Sunlit Seduction. Even then, I’m not really sure I want it because I think I can make every look that could be made with it using Pat shadows I already have and love.

@@LisaF_ do you experience the same thing with moonlit seduction since it's not baked either? And also, the newer manufactured palette is with a plastic back. I got Huetopian dream recently, and even though it's technically not new, it was still in the newer downgraded packaging :(
@LisaF_
@LisaF_ Жыл бұрын
@@aurigavega It was after trying to use the Moonlit Seduction shades that I realized that the non baked “special shades” weren’t as versatile or flattering on my eyelids as the baked shades. I’m really sad to hear the back is now plastic even on previously released Motherships if they were newly manufactured. I’d feel better about a slight decrease in packaging if it helped keep the more expensive formulas inside the palettes. All this said, I still hold out hope for baked special shades in a holiday quad or even as special singles in the holiday collection!

I agree with you. People complain about the color story and then when she gave us color in her Mothership pallets they don't like them and then it goes on sale. I know that it has been a lot of pink, but even in the Xmas collections she give color and that doesn't sell well and People still complain. I just don't know. Natasha Denona does give many different color stories, but those pallets are not the best sellers for her either. I love Pat Mcgrath and I will always purchase her eyeshadow palettes. Great video thank you! If it wasn't for your channel and indepth reviews of her pallets my collection would not exist today and I love all of the Mothership pallets 😊.

Right? 🤷🏽‍♀️ The numbers don’t lie. And on social media, what appears to be the majority of opinion is usually the minority. I’m sure Pat wants to go wild, but those color stories don’t sell as well. Especially now for her brand, and how it’s evolving. Which is why we have indie brands to look towards if we want to change it up.

What you said about new products resonates with me. When I shop my stash, I find a lot of favorites that have been eliminated by me running to the next new thing. I’ve slowed down on my palette collecting as of late, as I have the best quality version of every eyeshadow shade that I would realistically wear. I knew Sunlit Seduction was my kind of color story for this season at first sight, so I bought one of the limited edition early released Motherships and got mine early. But Moonlit Seduction for example, I waited till the next winter because that was when I was likely to wear that cooler color story. I buy and use my stuff on my own cyclical Timeline. I will be using my Sunlit Seduction palette for the first time tomorrow, when I know I’ll be wearing something and doing activities that will go with the look this Mothership will give me. Thank You for these demos. You have helped me greatly with how to apply my Motherships:)

I have been severely struggling with shopping (for make up specifically) for the passed 2 years and honestly I’m having more of that perception like you where I do not have the space for all of it. I’m just a normal person that’s not in the KZbin world or influencer world and I feel like I have all the colors coming out in some form or another and if I wear makeup once a week that’s a lot! So the math isn’t matching anymore but it is a huge struggle. I have so many carts but I’m holding out purchasing because why?! I don’t need any of it! I’m a moth though. I’m attracted to all the light bright and shiny things 😩😩😩😩😩

I agree with you. We all have to have conversations and not arguments. Everyone is struggling with something. Additionally, I have noticed lately that when I do an eye look that I think looks really nice, it will occur to me that I could get that same look with several other palettes in my collection. It’s helping me to scale back buying, if I pass on color stories that I already have. I know that probably sounds like a dumb point to make, but I have been a pretty obsessive collector. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Exactly that! At the end of the day, no one will know or care which palette I used 🤣 And I have so many still even post purge. I've been sobering since 7/29/23, but the soap is a no for me. The oil from the Vaseline clogged my nose, so I stopped using that, and now I’m just using water. My skin felt a little dry after Wednesday, but it's a good thing it's summer because it has more moisture. I decided I'd just use my cleanser (Rephr) and moisture only from now on, with no oils. Sunscreen is another thing I've stopped for now. I hope you keep us updated during this month on your journey as well. My body does feel better. Don't kick yourself for falling, because I have as well, and the pandemic really helped that feeling of wanting more but not needing it. I have the same issues with keeping stuff. Girl, I started thinking more about my purchases and not buying, and I feel you on that, and dude I could agree more 😊39:41

The main factor for "good" skin is genetics. I went without skincare until i was around 23, and my skin was reactive, covered in acne, excessively oily, etc. Introducing actives and the right moisturizers and face washes was a game changer for my skin. Of course nutrition plays apart of it too, but the quality of your skin comes down to genetics and environment. One of my sisters and my one brother, only wash their face with water and never put anything on it - their skin literally looks poreless. These are the people who can be photographed in HD without retouching their skin 😂 So, for me and alot of people, i think giving up skincare is a hard pass. Minimizing skincare is a good idea and not over doing actives is also a must.

You were one of the first beauty KZbinrs I followed just a couple of years ago. I will say you have provided the most education, information and history about so many things, but you are responsible for my first purchases of Pat McGrath, Natasha Denona and Sonia G - and I will say I went in armed with enough information to make the right choices for me. What sets you apart from many content creators is your passion not for the new product of the moment, but your perspective on where that product lies in that brand trajectory or makeup industry itself. I completely respect your pull back on acquiring new product. We all can learn from that. What this opens up is the opportunity to talk about makeup trends (blush draping, stained glass blush, things like that) and makeup history (how did bronzer come to be? Why has it become such a staple - It wasn’t even thing when I was young) I could listen to you talk about almost anything, but whatever the topic, you always add in something deeper to the mix. I look forward to what you do next!

I do have the space to keep more makeup than I have right now but I get very overwhelmed by the thought of owning too much and not truly having the time to enjoy it all. I try to be purposeful with my purchases and only keep makeup that I truly love and use a lot. (I do have my nostalgia drawer with a few items that are more like makeup history and will belong in a museum some day that I can't bear to get rid of even if I never use them...UD Electric palette for instance.)

While I wouldn't go as far as skin fasting, I do believe our skincare routines have become complicated and can have too much in them. More than can even be helpfully absorbed. So much stuff that you might even be compounding your issues. My skincare routine is gentle cleanser, moisturizer, spf and tretinoin at night. That's it. Maybe call it "skin minimalism".

I'm the same way in terms of makeup shopping: it's taken a lot of willpower to get to the place I am now. Where if I want something, I'll look at my collection to see if it's unique to it And now too I'll wait. Wait for sales, wait for if I really do still want said item, etc. 😊 And in terms of skincare, I only use a makeup removal cream, and sometimes a moisturizer if I'm extra dry. Keeping it simple for sure. Thank you for sharing your thoughtfulness in your decisions.

The special shades in Sunlit Seduction are like indie brand. They are very dry and flaky. Like compacted actual glitter. The bottom of this mothership is gold plastic opposed to the metal of the baked special shades. I’m in my 40’s and fell in love with the original palettes because they are flattering on the eye. I especially miss the VR shades. I know PML is trying to keep costs down and has actually made the motherships cheaper but it is at the expense of the special shades. I’m super happy I got mine with the 30% off. However, it really reminds me of the Natasha Denona Love palette on the eye. I personally would prefer to pay more and get the finer milled shadows. 💖🌅💝🤷‍♀️

At one point social media got me with all the skincare items that I “needed” and I felt like I had to try a whole bunch of different things on my face but I realized that I hate doing multiple steps and my skin looked better before I started trying a million things 😂 I filtered out everything and I either cleanse or exfoliate depending on the day and moisturize/spf and that’s it. My mom has great skin so I know genetics help too but whatever works works! I love simple. I loved the birth control segment in here too. Many people aren’t too open about it. I hated birth control but needed it to regulate my cycle in high school/college but after I lost weight I weaned myself off and haven’t needed it since.

I trained as a Holistic Therapist and with that learnt a lot about the skin and skin care products. The process of applying the products is where you get the benefits as it’s the massage of the tissues of the face rather than what products you use. A moisturiser costing £100 compared to one costing £10 basically does the same thing. It’s the language in advertising and on products that convince us to purchase the high end products. You can also make your own products at home using store cupboard items. Salt, sugar, olive oil, honey etc.

I love how you explained how you can use other mothership palettes to bring out the pink or other colors with the blitz shades (okay, I feel like a fool, but I never thought about this, nor have I ever tried it before; now I'm on it!) I did order the palette because I wanted a Mothership that is more of an every day easy quick palette for me. I'm often in a rush and don't have time to do more than slap on some shadow and these are easy enough for me to do that, plus I love her formulas (though that raspberry one scares me). What a wonderful presentation, and I found your journey with skin fasting fascinating (though I'm too old and too chicken to do it). Bravo!

But I love how you spoke about nutrition being the best thing for skin. What we put inside our bodies makes the difference and not all these expensive serums and moisturizers. I also believe adequate sleep and hydration can do wonders for the skin, especially the eye area. I personally will not be buying any more serums. I personally do not feel they do anything special. So, for me it is just the basics, cleanse and sunblock. I only use toner and moisturizer/essence as needed. My skin feels so much better.

I love watching you slowly divest yourself of the things you do not need, and consuming more carefully! And I am very much looking forward to the day you stop eating animals… talk about saving money and consuming more consciously! It’s been a game changer for me in so many ways and you might find it so yourself someday.
@aliciaarcher
@aliciaarcher Жыл бұрын
I’m afraid being an animal based omnivore will be in the cards for me until the day I die 🙏🏽While I think that it better than the standard American diet, I don’t think it’s optimal nutrition for humans. Some people can thrive off of it, but the majority in my opinion cannot. My body does not like plants, and while I understand they play a role, animal foods are far more nutritious than plants. Again, this is just my opinion, and I understand if you feel that way because of the ethics. I would say though being vegan does have consequences, and is not absolved from death or cruelty. The number of insects, birds, rodents, and rabbits that are killed from monocropping is astronomical. The chemicals used to spray the crops are dangerous to the individuals who are exposed to them. So the narrative that being vegan saves the planet and is cruelty free I think is false 🤷🏽‍♀️ But I wouldn’t convince you otherwise! If that’s how you choose to eat, then super. Here’s my issue, and you can tell me if I’m wrong- why do vegans insist on convincing people to eat like them?
@whosvoice
@whosvoice Жыл бұрын
@@aliciaarcher LOL! I hear that! And find it as annoying as you do! That is not me. In fact, I didn’t make this change this late in life for ethical reasons primarily, it was actually a personal homage to someone I loved who was killed in the park by meth head, and who was vegetarian. It was part of my grieving to try this. But weirdly, after the year I’d given myself to do that I had noticed so many differences in my mental and physical health (and particularly my sleep) that I just kept going! However, I have always admired the length you go to to eat sustainable and ethical sources of meat. And that as we know is important for both your health and the environment. Literally the only reason I brought this up now is that with this skincare fast that you’re doing It is just proof that as we go through our lives we never ever know what’s around the corner for us, and I admire your willingness to experiment and try things. And I posited that in that same experimental spirit the day may (or may not) come that you may want to try vegetarianism (I am not vegan by the way). And as for me, SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic and good old Tretinoin have so transformed the surface of my complexion as to make me say I will do them forever… so I watch your skincare fasting journey with great interest.

Alicia, I completely agree on the skin sobering. Actives have really compromised my skin barrier and now I just use my plain old cetaphil , normal moisturiser and spf. Just coz I live in a drier climate I also use a body moisturiser. My skin had started to heal and I use the active maybe once a week and I screen my makeup for any active. And the point you mentioned on over buying drug store to get the effect that a single luxury product would do is exactly why I now stopped purchasing drug store. Have changed my mindset to quality over quantity. Love your channel coz it tells me to use what I already have and not buying more stuff

There are some products i see a huge difference and i use it from time to time, but becoming dependent on all these products , nail salons, hair salons, makeup launches, it is not good for mind or wallet 😂 so i kinda like the semi minimalistic approach, i have my fave brands for makeup, it makes me happy to see them launch (pml, Denona, tom ford) , cant help it, and all the rest bye bye.

I didn’t know there was a whole book on it😂 I skin fasted last year for about a month and a half after running out of skincare and not being able to afford to get refills. It was during the summer and when I tell you my skin got resilient it got resilient. The thing is though, your skin is definitely gonna look rough at times and when you start to incorporate a routine you’ve got to keep it simple and stop there. No serums no oils none of that. Just cleanser and moisturizer (SPF based of how long you’ll be outside and your natural pigmentation). Don’t be afraid to use a toner that’s simple and hydrating if you can have dry skin at times, nothing too viscous though and call that a day. Wash your face with water in the morning and a cleanser at night.

The looks you created here are beautiful as always Alicia! I am going to skip this Mothership though I think, precisely because of the lack of ‘transform shades’ as you say. That’s one thing about Moonlit Seduction that I actually really appreciate; there are shades housed there that harken back to the transformative nature of shades like VR Violet or VR Pink in my honest opinion. Astral Lilac Aura, for example, surprisingly brings out a cooler, early evening glow when layered on top of the not-quite-cedar but not-quite-plum-y warmth of Rosewood Romantique, or any other almost-orange matte in one’s collection for that matter. Just had to leave this comment because I can never pass up an opportunity to say how spectacularly under appreciated I feel Moonlit Seduction is by most fans of the brand (not us tho, iykyk) and because you brought up the transformative qualities of the og special shades😭😭🤩🤩

I think people go crazy with trends and skincare regimes have become, generally, overwhelming. When The Korean trend achieved prominence people were doing 10 freaking steps. 10. I'd have gone insane. I do my skincare, skip it when I feel like, keep it with few products. I am glad to see that my skin still has the ability to go back to moisturize itself whenever I skip, without needing an adjustment time. I saw the absolute power of expulsion by the skin when I started intermittent fasting for the first time: boy, was my body covered in rash trying to get out all the trash! As for the palette: I really like it and am looking forward to it arriving. However, I bought this as an "every day" palette. So, I agree it is not as artistry oriented as the others, hence why it appeals to more people than some of her older releases, I believe. Comparing it to Midnight Sun is unfair, though, since nothing can compare with that jewel! :D
