Footage is from 1989-1993, mostly by Alexander Nevzorov, Channel 1, and Gosteleradiofond. This song is from 1990, published posthumously in the "Black Album" after Viktor Tsoi, the lead singer of Kino, tragically died in a car accident. The track, like all others on the album, did not have a name until 1994 and was only numbered (4).

Kino has to be one of my favourite bands. Their songs each portray such an amazing sense of sadness, hope, or action even just from the melody. I don’t speak Russian myself, so I can attest to this, but knowing the lyrics just enriches the song’s feel tenfold. Truly an amazing band.

Well, if it is about many of the "Kino" songs then you got the vibe right, although aside from melancholy there are also underlying hope in them. They may be "underrated" only outside CIS, here they are one of the most famous groups. Until there exists a person, who learns how to play guitar he or she will definitely know how to play at least 1 of their songs.

Песни Цоя не про афганскую войну, не про бардак 90-х. Он вообще пацифистом был, по большому счету. Война у него была не в смысле "взвоет ветер над бараками, БМП нам лязгнет тракам" и прочие дембельские аккорды, а в смысле война внутри человека. Поэтому, когда я вижу кучу роликов на ютубе, где музыку Кино накладывают на военные хроники или кадры беспорядков... Один раз для прикола ладно, но таких роликов уже полно. Иностранцы могут подумать, что это русский Sabaton, в то время как творчество Цоя вообще не про это.

Honestly, that would describe most of Kino's music. Viktor Tsoi was a special sort of artist that doesn't come up very often. One of his band members actually helped my mom get out of Russia in '93

when talking about music that captures the feeling of historical time periods and events i think kino is very high up there, many of their songs give me an idea of what being in the late years of the soviet union as a young adult must have felt like, scary and uncertain but hoping for whatever change it is is for the better

@@juandager5220yes, these videos are real. in 1993, there was a standoff in russia between president Yeltsin and the parliament. Chaos ensued and the army attacked the parliament to defeat the rebellious elements of the government. it was accompanied by a lot of chaos and protests in moscow. some of the footage was taken by civilians, some is news, some government, and so on.

Those who are kino fans and live in russia or is willing to travel there, the place where tsoi worked has been made in to a memorial place where they constantly play his songs, and there are a lot of his fans there and it's such a good place to be as a kino fan. Kotelnaya kamchatka, St Petersburg. I would recommend you take a look there if you like his music, and if you're willing to travel to St petersburg russia.
