I've seen that. It was very unfortunate because she apparently was having perfect runthroughs during all of the practices leading up to it.

I'm sure that her KGB minders probably had a few words of inspiration for her after this performance.

Ironically, she actually won this competition.

I know that's what Wikipedia says...but, if I recall correctly, although we thought Ivanova had an insurmountable lead after SP, she finished second to Kay Thomson here after this disasterous FS. Moscow News Trophy competitions took place in December of each season, and that may be the source of confusions around who won which year...

@@nondescriptnyc Interesting point Nondescript. Kay Thomson won the Moscow Skate that took place in December 1981. It is possible that this video was mislabelled 1982, or that indeed the December 1981 comp was actually called 1982 Moscow News. In December 1981 Kay Thomson had no triples in her long program, only double axels (she didn't add the 3lutz until 1982 Worlds), but that could have been enough to beat this performance, which had no clean triples. But I find it hard to believe this was the same Kira who four or five weeks earlier had nailed four clean triples at the 1981 Skate Canada in her best ever technical performance. She was so on and seemed much more fit. Mind you, it was the same program, so you may be right, though in those days they often kept the same program year after year. In this one, her hair seems blonder though. Here is the Skate Canada one. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnm8qHuQnbife7M

@@martypellow9908 Hi! Seriously, it is inconceivable that this is the same Ivanova that delivered a solid FS a few weeks earlier at Skate Canada, isn’t it!!! Ivanova kept this “Fanfare to the Common Man - Charade - I Found Love” program from Fall 1981 through Spring 1983, and the costume she has on here from Fall 1980 through Spring 1982. I think the program-music misalignment has caused confusions. At the Moscow News in Fall 1982, which she won with an okay performance with two triples, she had a baby blue negligee costume-skated to the same music we see here.

@@nondescriptnyc You’ve convinced me. After watching herSkate Canada performance in 1981 you’d think she would have been a contender for a world medal. Instead we didn’t see her at Worlds for 2 more years. Maybe this bad performance put her in the bad books of the federation.

If you want to see something even more horrific, look for her 1988 Olympics LP.
