A central motif in this episode is not the nonsense but the meaning of obscure discursive postmodern language. For some people, like the Documenta curator featured in this Episode, it’s a vital and sensual power tool. For other people, it’s a swamp of hope and loneliness.
This episode features Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev. Director of Documenta 13.
It takes place on Documenta 14 in Athens. Last scene takes place at the Venice Biennale in 2017.

My little bro who lives in a trailer park in the woods has a full block set like that except instead of the concrete aesthetic it's got the wood look, like blocks of stacked timber/logs. & he sort of rearranges several of the blocks; makes little forts out of it and stuff. kind of fun. It's waterproof too. You can leave it outside all winter & in the summer spray it clean with the hose. I think my mom picked it up from Wal-Mart. They're cool honestly but I'm surprised Documenta ripped off a kid's toy idea found at a Canadian Wal-mart.

I am reminded of one of your earlier video's, about artists trying to justify themselves to the world, claiming they are doing something useful. What strikes me here is that this woman seems to be trying to justify herself to herself. Her friend at the end, as well. They take your off the cuff statements and run with them, trying to set themselves apart from the rest of society. And I wonder, if they realize they are normal women, with the same hunter-gatherer brains we all have, who are curating a room full of novelty pillows, does the entire dream crumble? As for the books, of course it can't be an open collection. Then it would be a library. And those get considerably less funding.

Although I agree with KIRAC's observations of problematic art shows like the one in the video; I'm more and more confused by what the KIRAC folks see as they're ultimate hope with these episodes.. Are they hoping someone will prove them wrong? or that critiquing alone is enough of a goal? In any case, I really do enjoy seeing new episodes appearing every few weeks.

We actually have real existing open collections of books in Germany, where people leave and take books as they please. They are called "Offene Bücherschränke" and spread across some cities. They work quite well from personal experience.
