The dark mirror versions of characters amplify their worst aspects of themselves. Meta Knight's dark side is really strong, but because Kirby is a good boy his only bad qualities to be amplified is his clumsiness and his naive generosity. You'll see it as the game moves on and Dark Kirby is just a klutz.

Ah, now I can see how this only took one session to beat. Man, Amazing Mirror’s such a good game, and for the first time I’ll actually get to see how the multiplayer works and maybe even what’s behind that giant stone block in Mustard Mountain! Can’t wait to see how they decided to record everything too, whether they went as a group or not, whose screen(s) get recorded, etc. Only thing I’m a bit confused on is I thought from Jon’s tweets that the game they played with Stephen was on the SNES. Little bit of background history before we get in: this was my first proper Kirby game after Crystal Shards, and it’s the first one I beat. My sisters and I loved this game growing up, so much so that I made a checklist of sorts with every Copy Ability in this game as well as every spray color and we would pick from that checklist and role play when we were bored. I wasn’t very good with Crystal Shards growing up, so Amazing Mirror’s important to me in that it was the Kirby game that convinced me to trying future Kirby titles. 0:20 Geez, really? Well I’m glad I still have my original cart and the version from the Ambassador program. 1:20 Ah, there’s the split screen. Which is a damn shame. There is but I doubt since this was all recorded in a single sitting that they had the time to spray paint a Kirby any shade of blue. 3:46 Yup, and being able to act independently is a strategy in this game. You can explore one region while your teammates explore others. The game is meant to be beaten in single player too; there’s only one or two cases where you absolutely need your teammates for 100%, and that’s what the cell phone mechanic is for. 4:14 No one went for Burning. Why must you disappoint me so? All those I-frames, man! 5:10 I wonder how long it took them to come to that decision of splitting up, because I know that was one of the reasons why they were holding off on this LP since they didn’t know if they wanted to stay together or go to different areas. They should be traveling together at the start, but once they get to World 2, the Manor, I can see people beginning to branch off as early as the second room provided someone nabs Burning. One other benefit of calling friends over, at least in the single player version is that with your friends comes a sizable healing item, typically meat (I’ve not seen a Maxim Tomato come out before), and because you can heal each other similar to Super Star, RtDL, and Star Allies, as long as you don’t dally and waste your I-Frames you get after answering the call, you don’t have to worry about low health when you arrive. 6:32 Because this is basically the closest Kirby’s gotten to open-world, the game does something nice with its doors. If there is a pale glow around a star door’s star, it means you haven’t been in that door yet. You also have a world map that shows all the different paths you can take from your current room, including one-way doors (marked with arrows on the map once you get it. I thought you could tell them apart by the size of the stars over the doors, but it’s hard to tell with the screen sizes being so small here. Normally though, a small star signifies a one-way door while a large star means it’s two-way). 7:00 That is correct Past Emile. This game is based on Nightmare in Dream Land which in turn is a remake of Kirby’s Adventure, the first Kirby game with Copy abilities. Super Star at the time was the only game where Copy Abilities for the most part had multiple moves going for them whereas back in Kirby’s Adventure it was a single button press for most moves. There are exceptions like Fighter, Throw, Sword, Smash, and UFO having varying moves based on button inputs or holding down a button, and Fire also allows you to aim your breath up and down to an extent, but most abilities otherwise are very basic in terms of movesets and those that aren’t, you wouldn’t know without experimenting because it wasn’t until Squeak Squad where the move list would return. Don’t worry Past Emile, Missile sucks outside of its mobility. And Burning gets scorned again. Guess they’ll be sticking together for a little while longer. Well waddya know, there is a move list. A lot of Ability flavor texts don’t have them though. 8:25 Quite. It’s the only Kirby game to do this too. 9 worlds, Past Jon. The first map you got was the World Map for the whole Mirror World. The observant folk would notice that you can theoretically get to Area 9 very early on. To add on to what Past Jon said, defeating a boss, entering a Goal, pressing and holding L, or losing all of your lives will take you back to the hub area. 9:10 And those two gray blocks are why I bring Burning here if I can. Few Abilities can break those blocks (Stone, Burning, Hammer, Smash, and UFO are the only ones that come to mind. Well, there’s one more but spoilers). Granted, past those two is the way to a Goal and I think a lever for an Area 5 warp. It’s been a while. “Brush your teeth!” says Mr. Flosty. You say that Past Jon, but outside of Bonkers, Master Hand, and Boxy (whatever the present boss is), you can find all those Abilities through other enemies. Because it’s a Kirby game though, it’s generally a good idea to get their Ability anyways when you get the chance because Kirby games always like to give you a new ability and immediately afterwards show you why they’re useful. 10:22 They also act as Full Recoveries, just like big switches in other Kirby games. Additionally, 11:00 I knew it. Doesn’t help that Stephen’s the last one out of that room. I can’t believe he turned it down though. 12:13 As Stephen discovered, there’s also a split path in this room. Actually this is the split that will take you to Area 9 if you just fly up rather than take the Mirror. Area 9 is the earliest you can get UFO at this point in the game (there are other Areas where you can get them), and UFO only goes away if you go back to the hub area or get hit, so you can theoretically explore most of the Mirror World using only UFO. Yes, and y’all kept scorning Burning, the best early game ability, at every turn, so as punishment, no splitting up for you! You can do super jumps off of each other in this game, so that’s why Emile was able to stand atop Stephen for a bit. There’s definitely Mix, but Mix can only be triggered by swallowing two enemies with Copy Abilities, not swallowing your own plus another enemy. And of course because Kirby, the Mix roulette and what abilities are on there operates under a different rule from the other games. 13:00 I appreciate how you see the bosses for other Areas in the stained glass. That’s a hard “No”, Past Jon. Everyone else be lallygagging. There’s actually different Kirby dances depending on how many Kirbys are in the room upon a boss’s defeat. 14:23 It’s at this point where the game really opens up. Right, because Light isn’t an Ability in this game. Yeah, Kirby’s Adventure physics had it really rough, especially elemental paralysis as Masae can attest to. How many lives did she lose to that mechanic alone during her previous streams? 15:04 Whispy Woods does not appear in this game at all. The first time he does not IIRC: 16:32 Large Stone blocks only need two Kirbys to pull it out. There’s only two of these in the game, and this is the only one that leads to a treasure. 18:03 Wheel has I-Frames in all its animations except when it hits a wall. You can be damaged at those points. Its I-Frames do not carry over to spikes, but you can ride over water. Not that I recall a time where that last parr’s necessary. I also want to say Jon’s not entirely correct, like there’s a split second during the turning animation where you lose your I-Frames before they kick back in. Carlos has been getting a lot of love on this channel since Pikmin.

Honestly an amazing mirror deluxe with modernized abilities (and maybe team combos from Star Allies) and online multiplayer would be a blast. My cousin and I just got into metroidvanias due to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night being free on Xbox and I would love to have one that we could play together.

The one thing that's not amazing about this game is that the great King Dedede is not in it. I think HAL should really come back to the idea of a Metroidvania-Multiplayer Kirby game and add online play while they're at it. Who knows, they _are_ know to take old concepts and give them a new look after all.

This was the FIRST Kirby game I ever got (at 6) and I played the crap out of it getting every spray and beating boss rush, glad to see the boys playing it.

There's actually a way to move the large blocks by yourself: use Stone (or Smash's Down+B) near the block to pull it slightly towards you.

One of my favorite Kirby games. Jon is right when he says that newer Kirby games spoil you by letting you keep power-ups when hit by weak attacks.

Absolutely love this game. It's almost a Metroidvania, the way it's designed, but instead of unlocking powers that let you go down different paths, you just need to eat the right enemies elsewhere and bring their power back to whatever obstacle they help you through. Too bad there aren't other Kirby games like it

This was one of my favorite games as a kid! And still my favorite Kirby game! Never got to play it with anyone else ever though, so seeing it played with the multiplayer feature is really cool and exciting!

Man, I remember playing this game so much as a kid. I would often spend time just wandering around the world. It took my siblings and I the longest time to find the last chest. 1:46 Personally, I liked the "Ocean" spray paint color the most. 10:54 Bomb was one of my favorites in this game, simply for the satisfaction of spamming explosives. 13:50 Fun fact about the Golem enemies: they give different powerups depending on what they're doing when you inhale them. If rolling, they give Wheel. If punching, they give Fighter. Most of the time you just get Stone
