The sleep ability does have one purpose. The upgraded version gives a buff like the ones from the shop. This means that you can use this a bunch in waddledee town and save a bunch of coins on powers. Just a tiny niche, though.

the problem is that the buffs don't stack. you only get 200 seconds, and 3 minutes isn't going to get you very far in any arena other than the Meta Knight cup. so you're only saving 600 star coins assuming you don't already have any of the buffs, when it normally costs somewhere around 1,800 to max out everything.

Hot take: Forgotten Land made sleep good. Circumstantially, it can be used to heal. However, it really great to prepare for bosses, as the Deep Sleep version gives you an infinite supply of health, speed, and attack boosts that only activate when you enter a level/boss fight, and make your other abilities much more powerful. It can double your max health, make your attacks shred bosses, or just help you go fast.

Tornado was my most consistently enjoyed ability playing through the game. It wasn't particularly useful during boss fights, which I generally used ice for to cheese the "no damage" missions and then morpho sword for the true arena, but it was always fun just zooming through regular levels as an invincible force of nature especially because of the game's mostly horizontal level structures.
