It’s gonna be like 3D land which I think is a smart decision. It will feel more concentrated. I don’t think open world automatically = good. Like yes Breath of the Wild is good game but after going back to playing Skyward Sword I realized I missed the more memorable npcs, the varied temple designs being completely different, and the bosses also being very unique in each temple. It’s the lacking details that open world games tend to have to sacrifice in order to work on a much bigger map. A map where I mostly just ran into the same two npcs everywhere needing help during their mushroom hunt and fighting techno Ganon like 5 times and guardians again and again. Same preferring the actual platforming variety of Galaxy 2 over Odyssey walking around in a lot of just open area. Obviously BoTW and Odyssey are good games but some core things get sacrificed. Also this being Kirby’s first 3D is fine this way. I want to see them just handle doing 3D first before jumping into an open world.

I don't really care if its open world or not, obviously the modern standard of gaming expects 3D games to be open world now, but Kirby is literally going 3D for an extensive adventure game for the first time, so we have to keep our expectations in check in that department. One of my biggest hopes for this game is for there to be a bit of a puzzling element. By that I mean similar to the LoZ games like OoT, MM, Minish Cap, Wind Waker, etc. Kirby has a lot of power ups in this series, I expect some of them to be cut because this is a new formula, but if there was an actual use for fire and ice powerups to progress in a level, that would make this game so much better than if it doesn't. One of the biggest issues with Kirby games is that they are generally too easy when it comes to manoeuvring in a level, you can just float over everything and ignore, power ups are just optional to beat bosses. If they made these powerups somewhat necessary...like SMO makes powerups necessary for some moons, that would be a step in the right direction.

Or perhaps climb some hilltop and hit a box that you previously had to activate via switch and when you hit it a vine goes to the clouds and you climb it... It does look pretty linear, but that's not my main issue with it. I'm a little concerned with how empty it is gameplay wise. Like, you have some of these open areas and there's nothing there but 1 or 2 enemies, no blocks, no star coins, no overworld puzzles, or anything (maybe a few things hidden, but in general nothing). I know this game has a post-apocalyptic theme, but that doesn't mean the gameplay has to be barren and empty as well, if there's little to do in these giant levels it's not going to be very fun. Surprised more people aren't calling this out.

I really don't agree with that. I prefer being able to have the free roam of fully rotating the camera and having some open areas. I feel like it would miss out a lot if it became a too limited exploration type of game.

Whether it be Crash Bandicoot-esque or a true 3d open world... I DON'T CARE. Honestly, I'm just happy to have a Kirby game where you can actually move on the mother f***ing Z-axis. Either way, it looks like a dang good time.

I think this will be like a galaxy type of Kirby game, you even have warp stars that seemingly take you to different areas just like the stars in the galaxy. Not sure if we will have different missions or anything inside the stages like galaxy, but hopefully they pack a lot of content into the stages themselves.

I'm not expecting a fully open world experience. But I hope there's at least a little bit of exploration to help make the level design feel a bit more lively. Give me some secrets to find and maybe an alternate path or two.

Agreed, hidden collectables is usually what elevates Kirby and Mario platformers to me.

Reminds me of KIRBY 64 Let’s call it a semi open world

Are you for real? OMG! Kirby is one of the best Nintendo games ever, you missed out big time. Hope you enjoy this one then.

i think it would be interesting for it to combine open-ish world and contained level design. something like where you can freely run around the city like in kirby air ride or something but as you move along the game you unlock new contained levels to make it more linear, making the city/cities a freely explotable hub for the self-contained levels. sorta like sm64

I have no problem with this being linear and I don’t see the problem with it.
