This video is exactly what i needed. I just bought a used kirby heritage 2 legend 1984-1988 model. I wondered what those side screws were for. I appreciate this video. It helped me to understand my new (pre owned) kirby.

this sucks--- the trick is hooking the belt again -- which he glosses over

Kinda, but at 6:10 you see that you have turn it counter-clockwise again (after resetting) to hook the belt. I also had to use more muscle than I expected to get enough rotation so the belt cleared the shaft. Anyway, liked and subscribed just for this video.

information was good, but, was disappointed everything he was doing was out of the camera view. The camera was focused on the body of the machine where he took the front part off.

does it matter which side the white end goes?

The side of the brush roll with the white cap must face the side of the machine where the toe-touch control is. The brush roll will only properly fit in that way!

How can I tell if the bearings are worn out??

If you mean in the motor, it will make a grinding sound similar to a circular saw. When you stop the motor, and spin the fan shaft, it will sound rough when you spin it. In the roller brush, it will grind or feel gritty when you move or spin the brush. Some roller brushes have a long axle with bushings in it. Sometimes it will lock up or it will make a growling noise when in motion. All of those things can be easily fixed or replaced.
