Ultimately, if people start losing money, they will start to ask themselves questions as to what are the reasons. Just look at the Cotton bowl for example. Players throwing their paying fans under the bus while they make their final decision to play or sit out. Guess what I am saying is it is not fair for the fans to have some of the team quit on them after paying and traveling to go experience the bowl game. Others may feel different about that but that is how I feel about. Paying all that money, one would expect better.

Kirby at 20:42 was spot on. From a FSU alumni, I couldn’t agree more. It’s similar to what Coach Norvel echoed. It was unfair that the GA players didn’t get the opportunity knock off the 13-0 Noles team tonight. They deserved to play that team. Not the 3rd and 4th string. Georgia did what they said they were gonna do and they showed up and played no matter that roster. I for one think if enough players opt out for a bowl game - get another one to replace them. What a great matchup this would have been in the playoffs. Congrats on the win. #gonoles

Would have made little difference if it was the playoff and no injuries or opt outs. UGA was a far superior team no matter who FSU suited up. If FSU couldn't get motivated to show the CFP committee they made a mistake for this game then they had no chance no matter what. FSU had played no one and it showed tonight. So, if he thinks Georgia should be in, he should say over whom! If you make the point that Texas winning over Bama doesn't matter, then Bama winning over Georgia doesn't matter, equally. They couldn't have left out more than one undefeated team (after FSU was left out) for Georgia. So, it makes no sense for him to make that original statement! Objectively, any of four teams in the playoffs can beat Georgia; heck, one of them just did. Texas, not very long ago, also beat Georgia, although that win doesn't hold much weight here. The 1st problem is that there are too many bowl games. Bowl invites are taken for granted because they're handed out to every team damn. No 6-6 teams should be in bowl games. There should only be 12 to 15 bowl games for the most deserving teams, the teams with the best records. The 2nd problem is the messaging the players get from mainly ESPN analysts. They started the idea of meaningless bowl games. These ideas are pushed by the sports media. All of a sudden after playing a full season of football, now it's a threat to an opportunity to get paid money if the players go out and play an additional game of football. Dumbass Dennis Dodd wrote an article on CBS sports supposedly having an anonymous cfp committee member hoping the star players won't opt out of a playoff game next year. Why even put that idea in the air. But now that it's out there it's something to consider. The media pushed the idea that Jadaveon Clowney should sit out his junior season to avoid getting hurt before the draft. Not just the bowl game but the regular season. College football media members do more harm to this sport than players could ever do. The 3rd problem is that the coaches and programs have given players the option to sit out. Essentially an opt-out is quitting on the last game. Now for players to receive letterman status and the post career perks and benefits it should be stated in the scholarship agreement that the player is required to play whenever an injury is not preventing them to do so. No different than schools having gpa requirements. But it's up to the coaches to enforce it. I see nothing wrong when recruiting a kid to express to him that he will be expected to play when healthy. I never see high school football players opting out of playoffs or state championships to prepare for college. A lot of these young men just see it as an option that's available. Taking away that option is not going to destroy their lives.

Bowl games have always been stupid. Not meaningless, just a poor way to run a postseason. I for one agree with Coach Leach. A playoff doesn't "devalue" the regular season. Those games happen before the playoff. If regular season games mean less because of a large playoff, then bowl games mean even less than that. Everyone is about to see just how damn fun the playoff games will be next year, and how many more teams have something to play for leading up to the playoff. Yes Michigan vs Ohio State might mean less, but probably 50 other games will mean more over the course of the season when 30 teams are trying to get in to the final 12.
@TheJasonJackson84
@TheJasonJackson84 6 ай бұрын
@@darthnatas953 you sure about that??? What additional games mattered this year with the 4 team playoff that wouldn't have mattered in the BCS era? The bowl games are great events. There are are just too many bowl games that it makes a majority of them meaningless. For example, the new NCAA Tournament, the play in games between the #11 & #16 seed or however it's done, are meaningless games that very few are interested in. Even the 1 vs 16 is not interesting unless the #1 seed is getting challenged just cause people want something to talk about if there's an upset. It didn't make regular season college basketball more interesting it made it less interesting because it doesn't matter if you win or lose when nothing is on the line late in the regular season. If 1 regular season loss meant that a team lost its chance at a conference title or national title in 2000 but in 2024 2 or 3 regular season losses doesn't mean a team will be out of the running for the national championship, then that actually devalues the regular season. In other words losses don't count against a team as much. So if the cfp is for the best teams and not the most deserving, won't Ohio St still be one of the 12 best if they are 9-3? Won't Alabama or Georgia be one of the 12 best if they are 9-3? Regardless if North Carolina finishes 12-1 next year who will say they are a better team than Alabama or Ohio St? Without this year's playoff, a #1 Michigan vs #2 Washington would have made for an interesting Rose Bowl or BCS championship. There are no doubts about. But if both those teams lose people will be crying about Bama being in yet another national championship and how they don't won't to watch. Well that's what the playoffs are going to lead to. The better teams winning the majority of the time no matter if they loss at home in the regular season to a lower ranked team by 10 points or if they're undefeated. I am seriously hoping Bama wins it all since my Dawgs didn't make the cfp.

FSU didn’t care to be there, and collected their check. They fielded a team and that was all they had to do. Not their fault, and UGA would have blown out any team in the country with as many opt outs. CFB needs to fix this, it will continue to happen each year.

After watching that and seeing and remembering what Kirby said after the SEC Championship Game, Georgia is absolutely one of the four best teams in the country. I think Kirby was out to make a statement that Georgia was one of the four best teams in the country. The four teams selected are good, but if you are going the four best I don't think anyone cannot say Georgia is not one of the four best teams in the country. Whether you are a Georgia fan or not.

The whole set up was a travesty and as I said our 2, 3 and even 4's werre about "to get marched across the burning sands by UGA" this game proved nothing other than CFB os broken and the CFP helped end any meaning to other bowl games. Seriously how can anyone make an evaluation of FSU JV team against UGA with far more contributors from their 2023 season?

Yes, just like any other school, some UGA players make mistakes and get in trouble. But that doesn't take anything away from the culture of character that Coach Smart has built and is continuing to carry forward. I can't speak to whether other schools may be doing the same thing, but it shines at UGA and promises a bright future for the program, and more importantly, for the young men that are positively influenced by being a part of it. GREAT JOB to Coach Smart and the TEAM.

Bama fan here. Kirby is right about this mess. Georgia was shafted/disappointed to miss the playoffs. What did they do? Showed competitive character, leadership, and mission. And competed. What did FSU do? Went on a 3 week whining campaign. Filed/threatened lawsuits. Transferred. Sat out. And quit. Kudos to Georgia for being a first class program with a first class coach.

FSU had a legitimate complaint. They were undefeated conference champs. Georgia was neither of those things. I agree that FSU handled it poorly but they aren't comparable situations. And keep in mind that they won a conference with a winning record against the SEC in the regular season. UGA had no legit complaint when there were at least 5 better options to make the playoff. Who should have been left off in their place? The conference champs that beat them? Or the conference champ that beat Alabama earlier in the season? Maybe the undefeated conference champ that just beat Bama yesterday? Or the undefeated conference champ that just beat Texas? There was just no room for UGA.

Awesome. Wonder wear Kirby learn how to coach like he does so that players would never abandon there teammates? I wrote the following earlier today on Facebook, but here it is with an important addition. A year ago, Bama was left out of the playoffs. We weren't happy about it because we believed we were one of the best teams in the country. Kinda like FSU this year. However, how each team handled the disappointment couldn't be more different. Same goes for Georgia this year. Bama didn't pout and they played Kansas in the Sugar bowl and won 45-20. The amazing part is that NOT ONE Bama starter opted out of the game. That included Brice Young and Will Anderson, two top ten draft picks. Why didn't they? After all, an injury could have cost them millions of dollars. Obviously, it was a dedication to school, team, teammates, coaches and fans. Both Brice and Will said it never crossed their minds to opt out. Now lets fast forward a year. FSU was left out and they have every right to bitch, but give me a break, fans and players are still crying about it. Even worse, 24 FSU players are opting out of the game against Ga. A culture that doesn't instill in it's players a dedication to school, team, teammates, coaches and fans is one that will never be anything but a run of the mill program, with an occasional season worth talking about and I think they know it. Maybe that's why 24 of them are taking their ball and going home. Then again, maybe they just don't want to be part of the ass kicking Georgia was going to give them.

I also interpreted this interview as KS holding the committee accountable for the way this played out. As a Georgia fan I have watched fans all day boast about the win as if the guys went out there and really did something crazy special. To me it sounds like a 16 year old bragging about beating up a 10 year old. I think they went out and played like they would any other time but I don’t think that team or KS is particularly proud of the win. They know.

Maybe people just don't believe in the program yet on the big stage. I wonder why? Alabama gets the benefit of the doubt because of more than a decade of proving it on the field. Alabama doesn't just run it's mouth, they kick your teeth in. It is about more than one good year. UGA is the two time defending National Champions. @bigj6143
@bigj6143 6 ай бұрын
Bowl games are an old outdated obsolete idea that is only played for the sponsorships. You use to have the unknown of crowning a National Champion after all the major bowl games but the insertion of a playoff eliminated this possibility. Bowl games are an exhibition where, like all-star games, nothing is at stake. Problems are more than just this exhibition. With the expanded playoff next year, the transfer portal, players are going to continue to opt out not wanting to risk injury. I would say a huge part of all this, like everything else, is the money. The idea of players getting paid money, revenue, being able to get paid for their so-called likeness, whatever, instead of yhe education benefits. Also, the NCAA staggering and stalling around on a playoff format then finally deciding initially on four teams for the playoff which is too few. In all the years of watching college football without a playoff, no team who was ranked lower than 6th in the rankings going into the bowl games was ever crowned National Champion. Therefore, in the beginning, I thought that six playoff teams with byes for the top two ranked teams was ideal. Six teams this year and you would not have had both Georgia and Florida State on the outside looking in. Six teams would have given mid-major programs some hope of making it also as the University of Cincinnati did a few years back. Nope, the NCAA with all it's fake brilliance and greedy money schemes ups the playoff to 12 teams with more games and many more opt out choices. The playoff needed to come but they waited too long and had the wrong number of teams from the start. A reason also recruits keep flocking to Alabama, Georgia, the SEC, and even the Big Ten which should be renamed the Big Twenty now. Local and proximity in the country is gone, as teams from the west coast are flocking to predominantly east coast conferences now to get in on the money. Traditions like the PAC 10 conference and their rivalries (USC-UCLA) on the field are being abolished. Oklahoma-Nebraska, abolished. A game, which is a violent contact sport and has been since its inception, has been overtaken by literally too much greed in anticipation of the old mighty dollar rather than the competition. Individual greed far overshadows team goals and success. Most will not play professionally, they just play for the education in the classroom or even love of the game. But they are not the elite. Elite draws the money. On the shirt tails of that are overpaid, overrated college coaches like Nick Saban. They get the very best recruits apparently without limit. It is a long sad story getting worse year by year. Why? People and greed. Stop wasting your time and money on others to entertain you. In an effort for perfection, it is technology, money, greed, pure selfish stupidity, that has made or I should say spoiled something else. Find something better to do or certainly more productive or watch it get worse, your choice still.

What conference would want FSU after this? Instead of making the ACC better they complain and file lawsuits. Sad

Noles still breaking records even in lost. Wow that’s what I’m talking about. Go Noles. This reminds me of FSU beating the Gators and they had to play them again for the national championship game when they should’ve played against another team. The SEC is definitely paying money to be in the mix. 😂

Alabama should not be there.......because of how close the auburn game was........Georgia going from 1-6...NFW.....if ohio mistakes were 1 -and lost to bama no way they fall to 6....we know that won't happen because they don't like playing the GREAT SEC,,,,,,,,

You can blame the NCAA and their transfer rules and NIL payments for this embarrassment of FSU . Georgia players were loyal , FSU players showed up for the free bowl stuff, then turned their backs on their team mates .

For everyone hollering about FSU and backups, Georgia had 3 guys rush for tds, 4 guys catch them and 2 QB’s throw for touchdowns. Gunnar Stockton is a third team guy as well. I saw FSU when they were at their peak. They barely beat teams like Boston College, Clemson, Miami and Florida. I don’t want to hear the crying. There is no crying in football. Take the L and admit that only one team on that field belonged in the top 4 and it wasn’t FSU…

FSU is just not a good football team. They barely beat teams that also are not good. If you had to bet your life on the best FSU as game played this year vs. Georgia’s worst, your money still goes on UGA with Las Vegas confidence. It’s ok to be upset about not getting in the playoff, I’m upset as a Georgia fan, but that shouldn’t divorce you from reality. If FSU was better I would say so, they’re not and they never were this season.
