skilled. Talent is that myth that you have an inate ability. Calling people talented dismisses their long training and keeps people from training because they believe they have no "talent" if they don t succeed instantly.b

@@gulliverthegullible6667 Mostly agree but it' a misplaced comment. Anyway, precondition to achieve what others call talent is will + ability, and final condition is practice. If it's not a trivial talent then you also need intelligence. :)

One of the worst assumptions you can make about a musician, especially a guitarist, is: Just because they "don't", doesn't mean they "can't". This is one hell of a great example of that. 🤘

I wish this was applied more to when they make albums together as Metallica because this sounds like there stuff from the old days with Cliff. yes think it would be amazing if it could be applied in a metallica context - but honestly James is so rigid, 'chug chug chug as fast as the pick can go' over and over. metallica has been set in concrete since 1991, and its just so boring, these are actual ideas.

Yeah, I got a nice vibe of Opeth in "The Incantation". When the song swells down into a lush, eastern flavour with nice sounds and details that you would hear in Opeth's moments like that. Good call. I also got Kirks love for Scorpions ex Guitarist Uli Jon Roth in "The Jinn". Some of those more exotic heavy riffs reminded me of Scorpions "Sails of Charon". Theres a lot of cool, off Metallica's tangent music here that I personally would love Kirk to introduce into Metallica's sound. This EP is brilliant, and inventive.

Because on last albums James and Lars act like boses and he don't feel like part of band and i can think how unambitious he feels in Metallica. They just give hm riff and say "do solo". If you look old Metallica songs, almost every pre solo riff is done by Kirk. He make riff which inspires him to do solos and that's resaon why his new solos are uninspired.

Why does Kirk hammet get so much hate? I don’t get it. He’s a great guitar player who has written countless legendary riffs, and inspired every single guitar player in the world under age 40. Kirk is imprecise in his shredding and reuses a ton of motifs. But after hearing some of this I think that might be partly the result of what Kirk called the "tone police" within Metallica. Growing up with the band and studying James' and Kirk's techniques, it's clear now that he can do so much more outside of that box. It's just that I've wanted him to step outside the box within Metallica but he hasn't, and it's seemingly not up to him.

@@EvilMerlin Not true at all. They're very much different. And you say back in the day like it was 15 or 20 years ago. Kirk just lost that iPhone end of 2015 or beginning of 2016. When it was time for everyone to present riffs for hardwired, he had nothing and said he lost his phone.

Back in the early days of Blind Illusion my musical Brother K.H would take full control of the production of our sound in the studio. Most notably Trilogy of Terror and the Slow Death demo . He actually produced The Sane Asylum though his mgmt would not allow his name to be listed . Many of the nuances and textures were his doing as well as every solo's final outcome. I would play several takes until he decided that we got it. Actually every decision pertaining to the sound and quality of the entire project fell on his shoulders and for that we to this day we are thankful. This E.P Portals is a work of Art! It is exactly what I expected , a brilliant soundtrack to a secret screenplay. I listen to this quite often and every time I do I am transported in my mind and I see the movie that is the result of Kirk's vision. with love and respect MHB

Damn Kirk, taking us back in time while showing off them chops. I hear maybe a smidge of some Metallica in there (about 5 - 8%), but a lot of newer shit that we’ve never experienced before from ya. You earned it too after the decades of the sweat and tears poured while traveling around the world my dude.

"The Jinn"s exotic eastern tinged themes blends brilliantly with a real bang of The Scorpions classic "Sails of Charon" in the tracks more riffy moments, especially the chords and riffs near the end. The Incantation has brilliant riffs and cool tangents that, to me, would sound incredible on a Metallica album. I want Kirk to sound more like this on their next album. This is a classy ode to his other fave genres that highlight how good is is on his own terms.

Don’t get me wrong I’m a fan of all that metallica has ever done… but this… this exceeds my expectations. This is hands down some of my favorite riffs Kirk has ever written. Metallica should really give him more say in the band. This felt inspired, in fact it inspired me once again. Something I haven’t really felt from metallica for quite a few albums now. This is going on the everyday playlist 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 amazing job Kirk my hat goes off to you
