These things make me feel old. Years ago we used to go to museums to see how other people used to live and now when we go it’s all things there what we used to have. But brings back great memories.

Great museum. Of an age now where radios, tvs, and gadgets I had and used are now museum items. Valve radios are great, I learnt valve theory back in my air force days.

I remember my grandfather religiously listening to the latest episode of The Archers every day on one of those old valve radios. No tv in those days

I remember radio Luxemburgh trying to tune it in on the radioand i had a radio cassette recorder we used to record top of the pos on a Sunday 🙂 My Mums friend and neighbour was a radio operator in ww2 she sadley passed last year age 99. Lots of things there i am sure are in the loft that we have to sort out. Brilliant museum for bringing back memories

Jenny had a cassette recorder with a mic phone. Used to put the microphone in front of the radiogram. Sound must have been awful 😊🎤

Good old days of the steam wireless, with entertaining programmes like the Goons, Educating Archie , Clitheroe kid and Hancock to mention just few.

Quite a different type of museum, wasn’t expecting to find one there. Some interesting radios and other Electrical’s. Quite overwhelming to see how much technology has changed over the decades. Remember making MW radio with 70 turns of wire around a smarties tube (along with other parts too of course) when I was a young lad 🤔 Very interesting things and fascinating on the engineering which went into these compared to these days. Enjoyed watching and on the to-do list! Have a lovely weekend, all the best, David 👍

I love how you were looking for somewhere to eat and yet ended up in a fabulous place! The old radio with the sunset/rise pattern reminded me of the old logo for BBC Radio Cambridgeshire!

Good video. The museum has a secret storage facility outside Kirkwall that the public don’t get to see. I’m a member of the OWM so I have been there (in October, after having tea and cake with the other members for the 40th Anniversary), and there’s loads more interesting stuff. It desperately needs a clear out though! We will be back in April 2024 for a new season!

For all of Orkney and the other islands offerings the Wireless Museum is one of my favourites. The Proprietor opened one of our Rallies in the early 2000 near Finstown. My Avo was "stolen" by a colleague and I have to use a horrible modern thing LOL.

I can imagine people glued to those wireless sets as Churchill announced the war.
