Miss Kirova was born in Russia and educated at the world famous Vaganova Ballet Academy (St. Petersburg, Russia), by renowned Russian professor Irina Trofimova, pupil of Agrippina Vaganova. In 1989 she joined the world famous Kirov Ballet (now the Maryinsky).
Miss Kirova performed numerous solo roles in productions of “La Bayadere”, “Giselle”, “Swan Lake”, “The Nutcracker” and “Sleeping Beauty” and as a principal dancer with several companies in Europe.
In 2001 she co-founded Melbourne Ballet Center (in 2003 renamed as Space Coast Ballet). Under her direction Space Coast Ballet Academy has built an extraordinary record of achievement. Students of Miss Kirova have attended and received scholarships to many of the most prestigious ballet schools in the U.S. including Alvin Ailey School (NY), Harid Conservatory and The Kirov Ballet Academy at Washington (DC).
Her unique talents and “hands on” teaching provides the greatest dance opportunity for all her students, youth through adult. With a love of teaching and commitment to her profession, Mrs.Kirova has trained and inspired her students to win medals in prestigious ballet competitions throughout the US and go on to join professional dance companies.
In 2010 Mrs. Kirova received Outstanding Teacher Award from Youth America Grand Prix (currently the world’s largest youth ballet competition, awarding scholarships and funding for ballet study).

I recently watched The Nutcracker for the first time and it was performed by a professional ballet company. I was shocked at their iteration of this dance and how racist it was. This version was lovely, I appreciated the use of fans and the costumes and nice as well

I like this version theyre all so well trained and the costumes are more respect compared to other versions i like this more modern take on it! Its not perfect but a good step in the right direction esp as an asian dancer

The color red is VERY important to the Chinese culture. It symbolizes luck, good fortune and was believed to have the power to ward away evil. While I agree it might take away from the visuals & could have had some contrast---I've seen variations with white and blue dresses to contrast with red---it's still visually beautiful and, I think, appropriate.

But, I still maintain that even a variation of red, or the use of gold (another important color to Chinese culture) would have provided a better performance. At the end of the day, this is a Western ballet and should follow the best practices for a Western stage.

This is NOT "cultural appropriation." First of all, the nutcracker is a RUSSIAN ballet first performed in 1892, when it was fashionable to hire entertainers from all over the world for elaborate parties. Asian included and many chinese performers dressed and danced exactly this way. Modern choreographers have gone a long way to make this scene more tasteful to modern viewers but the fact stands that its still a very old Ballet. And the reason so many dancers dont like dancing this scene is because it is barking hard on the feet and knees, not because they dislike the character.
