@Briones Eynjelbetter layering but brutfuner is more pigmented, so I'd say brutfuner, but if you have extra cash, buy prisma colors, the original one, cause the fake ones have less quality, if you have good expirience and do commissions I suggest polychromos... I currecntly have the 48 set of brutfuner, it's good enough cause I know how to blend the colors

I guess the main key is patience. I can't make realism either but when I am trying I usually end up semirealistic at best because I lose patience with endless layers. Actually that is the main reason I developed a slightly simpler style so I don't have to do full realism LOL

Hey Kirsty, I only use minimal colors ( cheap Navneet pencils ) and I can see how this works, we just have to layer lots of colors on top to get the color that we want.. I only have one issue.. sometimes when I blend the colors together with white it doesn't look smooth enough, is it because of layering or the cheap pencils??🙄
@KirstyPartridgeArt3 жыл бұрын
It might be the pencils. I have found that the white pencil is the only one that doesn’t seem to work well if you use a cheap version. You can buy more expensive coloured pencil brands individually. So even if you have a cheap set of pencils it might be worth getting a more expensive white pencil like prismacolor or caran d’ache luminance 😊

Thank you! Here is a tip: Look into any videos which tell you that yellow, cyan, and magenta are the primary colors. That way, you will see exactly which shade of "red" and "blue" mixes well for a bright orange, green or purple. Your blue is close to cyan, your red too far from magenta to mix really well.

"you must use all of these colors" she ordered and I did and I have done some of the most superb color-pencil drawings ever. When I saw the title I thought No Way and I was wrong. You can, but copy paper isn't the ideal paper to work with...it's not going to look the same nor are you going to be able to get a lot of layers.
@carolinewithers16473 жыл бұрын
She had a really good reason for not using printing paper in one of her episodes. It had something to do with the slickness of the paper. There's a technique she uses with an xacto knife that you would have a hard time doing on printer paper.
@olgahein43843 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can layer colors to mix them on printing paper too. But not in the same way, as printing paper has its limitations. And they won't come out the same, as she is using toned paper. Polychromos are more translucent than most other professional colored pencils and you can see it the most with her red color. From what I see she uses a scarlet red, but on the paper it looks more like carmine. This is due to the grey paper, i think.

The reason we need a lot of colors is that art is not just colors, gradients, values, and shapes, but also a pattern of strokes, which is, on my view, the main filter through which you represent reality into art. Great job although. Using limited tools is a good way to learn and discover new technics and invent new styles.

Amazing video again! I love doing colored pencils and a couple of other mediums too and your videos are so very informative. I tried something recently that might interest you. Since mineral spirits always cause me difficulty(even oms) I started using a Caran ‘de ache water brush, the one that has the long big fibrous marker tip. I thought there are so many blending markers why not make a real one? In the US we don’t have Zest it so I used an odorless thinner or 125 neutral thin (Blicks)and filled up the water brush with that. I blended both oil based, wax based, over five different brands and all I did to clean it was to wipe the tip. It doesn’t leak and a 4 oz bottle goes further because I tend to have a heavy hand. With this you have to keep dispensing which prevents spotting through. I was surprised and thought this was the best blending tool yet. I can use it on the side too for larger areas then just clean off. The tip eventually discolors but it doesn’t stain your paper because you only dispense what you need and just wipe the tip.. Well I hope this info gets out cause I am a little sloppy with the oms and this can even be thrown in a bag to carry. No spills or leaks. It stays self contained unlike oms.Well take care and I enjoy your tips and the journey. We have in a way learned around the same time. Hope others can see that all can learn and have fun. Maybe a little plein aire colored pencil is possible now. I use the drawers also. There are some for colored pencils, pastel pencil, watercolor pencils, charcoal pencils and sticks and regular pastel sticks. It really keeps them organized.

@@sanjanaprasad3531 What?? This KZbin video was made by another artist and it is considered inappropriate and very rude to advertise on their hard work. Besides I already am an artist and enjoy watching those who have legitimately posted and done the work like Kirsty. No I will not follow you.

You were also my first art tutor. I bought your legacy collection. Good thing it's good for a lifetime because it will probably take me that long to get through all the tutorials (lol)

I guess you could use just the three colors, using paper for white and the three together for black :) Very interesting, thanks for the video!

A limited palette is so much more freeing than using a full set of colours I think! It looks beautiful! 👌
