tho i dont understand bengali but it is a sweet language & the songs composed y lata ji r so sweet & melodious that one cant judge for lata having composed bengali songs. this speaks of the vast talents of lata ji & her legendry. kishore kumar as usual very sweet & enchanting. hats off 2 lata ji & kishore kumar.

Yes, thats my fav as well. I do not understand much Bengali either - but 'Aami Nei' means 'Me Not' , But I if somebody could post the meaning of these songs, that would be gr8 !!!

I was once told the exact meaning of the entire song.. but that was more than 10 years back.. I have forgotten now. But it is more or less on the same lines as you mention... of deep sadness and dejection!

@debgoogle : that might be included in his album, but in the several HMV collections that I have seen, Lataji is mentioned as the composer. Besides, this song has a very very distinct 'Lata Mangeshkar' signature as a composition. If you listen to the several Marathi songs composed by her, you would know what I mean.

Someone told me the whole title of the song is some like "ami nei bhabtey byathay mon bhore jay" meaning "I'm not part of the earth or life." Is that true?
