Even if that is wrong, it doesn't matter lol... not even 50 years ago it was still semi common for plenty of people to be saving themselves for marriage, and public displays were still not quite acceptable yet (granted that did start to change in the 60s, but not fully). Also from a more modern point of view... I don't get why so many people are getting on the man's case anyway.
