I absolutely love this box set! Got it Friday from Amazon for $177. The blu ray on Atmos sounds fantastic! This album just rocks start to finish. You’ll love the track by track newspaper reviews. My only complaint is that the entire concerts weren’t released. The leaked Sioux City, Rockford, and Houston concerts are good. I love those shows and wished they include each from start to finish. Glad Mr Loomis gave us all of those. 👍 Looking forward to the half-speed vinyl I ordered from kissonline.

The unsung heroes are Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance. In a video, Paul Stanley credits BA as part of the comeback for KISS. BA was on the rise in 1982. His next album Cuts Like a Knife landed him into the Billboard Top 40 for the first time. 😃 War Machine and Rock and Roll Hell were written by Gene Simmons, Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance. Down on Your Knees written by Paul Stanley, Bryan Adams, Jim Vallance and the late Mykal Japp, RIP.

The album catalog was remastered again in 2014 for vinyl release and for hi res digital. They sound amazing, worth checking out. So they have been remastered since the 97 CDs, I have the new half speed master that I will play later and my box set is still yet to arrive. This is one of my fav' Kiss albums. Robbin Ford and Steve Farris also play guitar on the album. I have listened to this box set via digital streaming platforms the full length version of War Machine is awesome.

After the release of Creatures, Casablanca was fully absorbed into PolyGram, and after the release of Flashdance, was merged into Mercury Records, which is how Kiss actually wound up on the label.

No actually, Kiss signed separately with Mercury before it was absorbed back into PolyGram. So they actually did leave Casablanca/PolyGram before winding up back on the label in pure coincidence.

@@BrendonSnyder according to Wikipedia’s page on Casablanca, In 1977, PolyGram acquired a 50% stake in Casablanca for $15 million; in 1980, it purchased the remaining half. Also that year, one of the label's biggest acts, Donna Summer, departed to Geffen Records as she and Casablanca failed to agree on her musical direction for the future. That same year, PolyGram pushed Bogart out of Casablanca due to what it viewed as the label's overspending and accounting irregularities. The film division was separated from the label and renamed PolyGram Pictures. In the early 1980s, with Bogart no longer heading the label, Casablanca had hits with acts Lipps Inc., Stephanie Mills, Cameo (on sister label Chocolate City Records), and Irene Cara, but it did not have the same level of success it had enjoyed in the 1970s. The label was eventually shut down by PolyGram with some of the artist roster and catalog absorbed into sister label, Mercury Records. (Cut and pasted, as I’m lazy enough to not fully type it out. 😂)

I always thought that the Casablanca imprint was discontinued by PolyGram, which is why Kiss moved to Mercury Records, another PolyGram label. This was good timing also because KISS had decided to go in a different direction and remove it's makeup at the same time. In the United Kingdom, KISS has switched to the Vertigo imprint instead of Mercury.

Where did you order yours from? And did it arrive without any dents? Looks pretty mint. Mine had a dented corner since Kiss Online didn’t use any packing material. It was just stuck in a box with no bubble wrap or padding.

Amazon and they’re not known for good packaging either. But I lucked out with no dents. When it does come damaged I send it back for a new one. Same when it’s from a band’s website. I had to do that with my Neil Young Archives II boxset. They were good and replaced it without issue.

Yeah, I had it preordered from Kiss Online and I didn’t cancel and order from Amazon even when they lowered the price by over $100 because I’ve had bad luck with Amazon packaging. And last year I ordered Destroyer boxset from KOL and it was packaged perfectly with little plastic corner protectors and bubbled wrap. Arrived in mint condition. So I was surprised to see that for Creatures thy just threw it in a box with no padding whatsoever. I did just get a shipping label to return it for a replacement. Hope the replacement arrives in better condition.

I bought this from Amazon. My copy had: multiple dented corners, torn shrink wrap in 2 places, worn out hype sticker (rub wear), and a deep gouge cut thru the side of the box. There was no packing materials inside the shipping box, but I could tell the damage was done before this item was packed. Plus, I paid full price because the big discount Brendon paid on Amazon did not last long(. Due to the damage, I returned it to my nearest UPS store and I have not gotten around to buying a replacement, but I bought the regular 2 CD Deluxe Edition from kissonline.

Great review. Hoping to see the Queen Boxset next. Anaheim Steve has the 2 cd on order. It should be by him tomorrow. I got my copy of Queen Friday after I got home. Saturday I went to Sound Exchange picked up the new a-ha and Long Gone Day. Sorry I’m a bit late for the commenting. I normally don’t watch these type of review things. Another Boxset I can recommend is Elton “Jewel Box” it has 8 CDs inside. From before he was “Elton John” to B sides from 1976-2005,Deep cuts where Elton curated songs he wanted you to hear his personal favourites and then a cd called “This is me” songs he spoke of in his book. “ME” I’ll leave a link soon from when Elton sees the first pressing of the boxset. Nice boxset! Will have to eventually pony up for it but there is a lot on my radar for the next month or so. Creatures of the Night is a fantastic album. My best friend and I bought tickets for the show( was normal ticket size here in WNC) and was very bummed when the show was cancelled. I heard they sold less than 1000 tickets. Also very frustrating when I found out the Plasmatics we're opening for them. Anyway love the replica promo poster and tour book. Lots of goodies here that have made me more interested in picking it up . Thanks again for going through it with us.

Solid unboxing video and review as always; I went with the 3-LP colored vinyl ; the b-sides, deep cuts, and rarer stuff and the live cuts with Eric & Vinnie makes this a worth wild buy to me regarding the 3-LP and if you can afford it the Super Deluxe Ed box it looks great however it is pricey . Still if your a KISS fan into CD's and box sets this entire re-release as a whole is done well , very well better then I expected it would be . Usually not a big fan of these types of releases but Creatures is an album that has aged very well and easily Paul's best vocal album. Opinions on the b-sides varying , live cuts I think are solid, but the CD Super Deluxe is not worth the suggested and I say suggested retail price.

I actually think the “new” remaster is heavier and louder. Even the drums some how seem bigger. Listen to original remaster and this back to back song to song. That being said this might be a little too loud. I think I prefer the original remaster. Great video

Probably getting this now I’ve seen your review. Held out cause of the price, Australian conversion made it almost $500. Gonna get on Amazon now it’s cheaper. Glad they included some Vinnie Vincent in the photo/poster sections. I’m not a huge fan of him, but I don’t agree with people not getting credit for their work. Though KISS have used session musicians for years in place of Peter and Ace. I have the original ‘82 album on vinyl. One of their best.

Mine has been dispatched today so I should be getting it over the next few days. I'm based in Scotland, the prices over here have been £260 / £290 for the full deluxe boxset. I got it for £229 from rough trade records (London based). I love the Vinnie / Eric era of KISS so I'm really looking forward to receiving the boxset. I'll probably end up buying the vinyl version too (I just wish they'd featured Vinnie on the cover as a special anniversary re-release. Though I know they'd not have given Vinnie that much exposure). I loved Creatures of the Night album. The Elder album was a slip up for the band, although i must say i quite liked it. The next release brought KISS back from the dead, i thought it was a real kick ass album .. this box set looks fantastic.

I think if the song sequencing for The Elder has been different kicking off with a heavy track and excluding the orchestrate overture, the album would have grown in stature over time. The first two tracks are the weakest for me. After that The Elder is quite good.

@@BrendonSnyder Well, the original Lp started with The Oath and Odyssey was second to last on side 2 (that was a decision made by the record company). Even the first cd re-issues featured the original setlist (starting with The Oath), I still have a copy like that. It's only later that they re-issued the album with the playlist they originally wanted, and the whole album certainly has a different feel to it. Cheers.

While it's one of my favorite KISS albums, and I'm a big fan of the band, I do think I will stick with the 2-cd version. I appreciate you showing us all the memorabilia, but I don't think I want to pay the price for stuff I'd look at once and then put away. My biggest complaint about so many boxsets is actually the addition of the bluray 5.1 audio, because I'm always paying for a disc that simply replicates the original album in a format that I can't play. It's great for audiophiles, but useless for someone like me with just a stereo setup. In the olden days, those would be separate releases, but now they are included in sets and factored into the selling price. The absolute coolest thing to me is how we get to see visuals of both Ace and Vinnie as part of the swag. Talk about evolution right in front of our eyes!

It looks awesome! I remember buying the Lp when it came out (I was 11 or 12), what a great album! I don't think I'll be getting the deluxe boxset (too much repetition of tracks and raw Live material). I already picked up the 2cd edition, and I'll see if that's enough for me. I don't think they toured Europe for the CotN album, but I saw them the next year on the Lick it Up tour, and it was pretty much the same stage, the main difference was the absence of make-up. But I definitely remember the Tank in the centre of the stage. Cheers.

Great unboxing and I agree wholeheartedly about the format bands use for "stacking" repeated takes on their demo discs. The Beatles have done that a bunch too and it is a buzz kill. I understand the idea of listening to the evolution of the song. I'd just rather not see (hear) how the sausage is made. I'd much rather they curate some good alternate takes on another disc to spice things up.

If you are a fan of the Stooges, they put out a box set of every outtake from the Fun house lp. Each track is in order and there are almost 100 tracks on 8 lps. That's enough to drive even the most dedicated fan insane. Just thought I'd share that since you and I think too many takes in a row is a buzz kill.

Hi Brendon Yes the live tracks are raw but they’re clearly off the soundboard rather than a multi track recordings and I’m fine with that - by way of comparison, the audio quality is better than the Des Moines show that was released last month. In terms of all the bonus material - be it live, demos or alternative mixes & takes- what’s clear to me is that Eric Carr is on point throughout and this collection is a fitting tribute to this much missed talent.

Is this the re recorded 85 sound? The vinyl they pressed awhile back is the re recorded non makeup edition with the make up cover. They put this out so at the time they did not have to pay royalties

I saw this tour back in the day at the Worcester Centrum.. We wanted to see Ace and what we got was Vinnie.. Would have been nice if Kiss had informed us that Ace wasn't gonna be there.. The place was really empty and it seemed more like a funeral for the band.... Looking back now i guess it was kinda cool to have seen Vinnie and Eric play live in makeup...

I really like these deluxe box sets but my issue with them is the same as you said. The price of them. For what you’re getting in them, a lot of the time it just doesn’t seem worth the price (some CDs, maybe vinyl, a booklet with cool pictures and other stuff you’ll look at once and never look at ever again). The sets I usually buy and enjoy the most are the ones that are either career retrospective ones or have multiple full length albums in them. These ones that are box sets of just one album, not a fan of them.

I have bought this album (and Destroyer, from Qobuz download (flac 192khz 24bit Studio Master Recording). Destroyer sounds way better then Steven Wilson Remix (The one on the Blu ray). Worth checking out! Here in Norway, Lick it up was released on Casablanca Records (in Netherlands released on Vertigo Records). Animalize was also released on Casablanca Records. All these albums release in Europe/Norway.

They put Ace on the cover to fool their record company at the time...fun.fact there

Check oil out kiss and sell the book by their former business liason.the author stated they did that to fool polygram records after getting a new contract and dudnt want to ruin anything contract and money wise

They did that because Ace's replacement had not been decided at the time. Same reason why Peter Criss appears on the cover of Unmasked. What is bizarre is the cover of the 1985 re-issue that has the full band without make-up, and Bruce Kulick (and no Ace or Vinnie), but Bruce has NOTHING to do with Creatures Of The Night. What was the record company thinking?!

Still no demo of Danger with Eric Carr on vocal iv had mine for years never seen it since would have been nice to put it on for Eric why do they hold stuff back dont need 3 takes of one song put other unheard tracks instead

Maybe the band doesn’t have it. Who knows where your copy came from. Maybe it’s lost for eternity and you have the only remaining recording. I’m quite sure if they had it and it was of good quality they would have included it.

@@BrendonSnyder Hi Brendon yes you could be right and it was very good quality backing track was the same but Eric on vocal at the time there was a Larger than life diff take around seed (with Ace) and did sound more like him and was a good version too i liked it again not seen it since But yet they never given us Sword and stone 🤔and so hop they do one day Thank you for replaying

Not sure what having 400 Kiss albums where about 350 of them are unofficial releases determines the boxset as a rip off. Yes it’s overpriced…I said as much. But there is a lot there and as I said it put a smile on my face and made me happy. If it’s not for you that’s ok. But I prefer my Kiss collection to be made up of official releases so I’m glad I added it to my collection.

I don’t see the similarities at all to Thin Lizzy but if you do, that’s cool. Kiss is also big enough to have a wikipedia page so they don’t need to be on Metal Archives. Plus IMO, kiss is Rock and not Metal.

Those 2 songs don’t sound anything alike IMO. In addition Parasite is on Hotter Than Hell and The Boys Are Back In Town is on Jailbreak. Neither of which is Creature Of The Night or Thunder And Lightning. But again that’s just my opinion.

Kiss is obviously the most overrated rock band of all time. Mediocre musicians and vocals. I guess their gimmick worked really well. I have no idea why.

Malcolm, actually l do have a idea. A bunch of 12 to 16 year olds thought the make up and costumes were NEATO and either never grew out of it or finally did in their late 40's.

It is a pretty cool box it but for 300 bucks. They should’ve put in more CDs why not put in the record too.
