ace was the only one who could do a genuine lead guitar solo for a kiss concert. His skilled use of the pentatonic scale, his smoking Les Paul, his octave pedal, made out one of the best solos ever played by ace--which was the ending after shock me on the alive 2 album!

So you say that Ace is cliche and boring, but it was the 70s remember? At that time most every hard rock lead guitarist in a famous band used the pentatonic blues scale for everything. Iommi, Nugent, Hendrix, Trower, Angus, A.Collins, Fogerty, Page, Clapton just to name a few. There was no E.V.Halen or G. Lynch speed playing yet, or lead style in e minor harmonic scales. It didn't exist. So tell me then, what else could Ace play? That's my thoughts on it. I've been a guitar player all of my life, doing all styles and I'm sure that you're a great guitarist also.

Battle-worn musical veteran here, This is beneath them, yet it's not. Are they hurting for money? Just greedy? I mean with the backing tracks? Paul's voice, lackluster performances and dueling guitars that are amateurish at best? They have become a sad caricature of themselves. Kiss was a good band before they started replacing original members because of ego. Now, kiss is just a good business. I am a working professional musician 30 yrs and here's something I've learned. When your starting out, nothing ruins a good band better than ego. If you can work your way through ego land you will learn it's not about who's best it's about what's best for the music. Once you learn that you will become a desirable musician. imho, A four-piece band with two main songwriters seems to be the most volatile combination. At some point one songwriter is going to outshine the other and you can see where I'm going with this. My best advice is this, if you're the one in the band who has the talent and shines, you must remember it's the rest of your band that lays the foundation for you to do so. When the band starts to gain traction this is where the egos kick in and this is precisely when the egos need to be kept in check.
