I’m 61 years old. My first Kiss moment was in 74 . I was sitting on a concrete wall outside of a 7/11 in Marietta Georgia. A kid came out the door singing, Hot hot hotter then hell.! I told my friend, that kid just said hell. That was rare in a song then. Then in 75 , my bus stop was my drive way . A kid was singing, I wanna rock n roll all night , and party every day. But in 76 , Destroyer came out , and KISS was everywhere. I got to see them in 79 , 96 and 2000. All original. They have always been my favorite band.

Didn’t see Kiss before Alive, but I saw them break, in my school. My grandma bought me, Kiss’s first album. She thought it was related to some comic book. I LOVED it immediately, playing it over & over on my little record player in my room. I got hotter than hell & dressed to kill too. My buddies liked them too, but most kids thought we were all weird for liking Kiss. Alive came out & all the sudden it became weird if you didn’t like Kiss. LOL 😂 The change came almost literally overnight, suddenly Kiss was the next big thing & it continued to grow rampantly through Dynasty & came screeching to an abrupt halt with Unmasked. I would continue to buy their records & see their concerts, but the loss of Pete & Ace, Kiss would never be the same. Kiss has been the soundtrack to the greatest percentage of my life. They have been a true joy.

I was 13 in '75 when Alive came out! I remember seeing the album cover and had to know what it was all about! Once I heard the opening song, "Deuce" I was hooked! I had listened to all the big bands of the time and they just didn't do it for me. They were good, but just not my cup of tea. I didn't want to be a part of what everyone else was into. KISS, blew me away! I've been a fan ever since! 49 years and 8 KISS concerts later, I always had fun! They were introduced a few different ways through the early years, until they came up with the "you wanted the best" intro!

Was so envious when my 5th grade friend’s older brother saw them multiple times in 1975….we hung on every word as he described the show, how LOUD it was, what songs they played including songs we loved off the new Dressed To Kill album. Lack of video, and film footage back then made you imagine what was going on as you stared and studied live pictures of the band. People who did not live it in real time will never realize how novel and fantastic the bombs, pyro, and stage show was back then. Every musical show and performance since then has been “KISSified” with the band’s influence reaching all genres of music and its stage presentation.

I missed Gene's "strut" too from the reunion tour on. That was one of the main things I remember when I saw them in 77. Gene slowly stalking the stage, hunched over and bringing his knees up to his chest and looking at the audience like Dracula just coming out of his coffin. Ahhh...I can smell the pot now, thinking about it. You're right about the music. They were Eddie Cochran, Little Richard, and 60s garage rock through Marshall amps

They didn’t start using the “ You wanted the Best” intro until May or June 1975. I think the first show was Long Beach Ca (late May) where that now classic opening was used for the first time and spoken by roadie JR Smalling. Up until til that point though, their opening varied from Are you Ready to Rock? Are you Ready to Roll? Great video! Keep doing more KISS!

I heard a little bit of the Winter land 75 show on the radio when I was 8 or 9. I had nestled seen them at that point but the music was like nothing ice ever heard. I was like "wow... Somebody makes music like this?" But I couldn't find them in the stores. Then in 1977 my mother bought me an 8 track tape player for my birthday. I saw the painting onthe cover of Rock And Roll Over and it knocked me out, so it was the first tape so picked out. I was not disappointed. To this day it's still my favorite album because it sounds live, pure and raw. Here's something you might notbknow... Elvis was a KISS fan. He walked into the room when his cousin was listening to Bother than Hell, and he was blown away. When he heard "Let Me Go Rock and Roll" he said, "they get it... They understand what rock music is.". Even Lisa Marie was a fan, she loved Gene.

I was 12 in 1978, and I was just getting my formal introduction into rock and hard rock music thanks to two crates of record albums that I bought from a garage sale. As I was going through all of those albums and listening to them, the visual aspects were just as important as the music. I remember reading every single word that was written, and I remember seeing the connections between albums and producers and bands and musicians, and just really putting all of the pieces together. I said all of that to say that KISS was the first band that captured not only my ears, but my eyes. My imagination at that age was running wild and rock ‘n’ roll music was like pouring gasoline on a fire!

I really liked what KISS did with the ALIVE! series. I worked with a band back in the ‘90s, and their live demos were so much better than anything we did in the studio. Capturing a moment -as it happens, cannot be replicated. Bands that work well together onstage should take advantage of that, and record an album live. The studio would then be a place to experiment with new ideas, and maybe lay down a few tracks if necessary. But, I’ll take a live record any day of the week over one that takes months to produce.

I absolutely love Kiss. I've been a fan since '89 when I was a preteen girl. And through the years I read a lot. I mean as much as I could find about Kiss mostly from the [then] current magazines like RIP, Metal Madness, Metal Edge, etc. My first introduction to Kiss was their self-titled 8-track tape. Yep, at 12 years old I found a new hobby, 8-track tapes and the 8-track players. My first 8-track player was salvaged from a trash pile. It was a low end Lloyd's unit. It worked as expected for three years then broke. I had a near mint Lloyd's given to me that lasted me 10 years. And you're correct about Kiss' concerts and the need for them to constantly tour. As I was learning all I could about Kiss, I knew some of their albums did excellent while others put them in danger of loosing their record contract with Casablanca Records and Filmworks. I was under the impression that Alive! was their last album and my mother [at the time during '89], was certain they were obscure. Two weeks later, I saw Kiss in Metal Edge and brought the magazine home. I proved my mom wrong. And I also had a copy of the Unmasked Lp that proved her wrong yet again. It was a great mystery to me why I never could obtain Peter Criss's solo albums post-Kiss. And the reason was very simple. His two solo albums Out of Control and Let Me Rock You were only available as imports because record sales here in the US would have flopped. It wasn't until 1998 when these solos were released on CD here in the US. Now, I could be mistaken about that, and keep in mind that I'm going based on what I read 36 years ago. I heard their lowest points were the made for TV movie, Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park 1978, and another low point was the Music from the Elder album was a flop. Creatures of the Night, the album kicks butt. It's awesome! But the concerts weren't even at half capacity when they did the tour. So... they went to Brazil to tour there for Creatures of the Night. Given Kiss's rocky road to fame and stardom, with all things good, bad, and what-have-you, I'm just happy that I was 1.) There to witness history in the rock music world pre-internet days, and 2.) I got to see Kiss twice. Once for their Reunion tour and again for the Farewell tour. Both concerts were packed. And Kiss was larger than life. It was phenomenal to see them with the original lineup both times. And 3.) I love Kiss for not giving up and just kept on going especially when faced with adversity and in danger of loosing their contract. I was a fan maybe at the right time, right place smacked in the late 80's. I caught all the erroneous acronyms. I didn't care what critics said of Kiss. I liked to hear both sides to every story, then come to my own conclusions. I also was a trailblazer. I was the first one to be allowed to wear my red Kiss glitter shirt to a religious school for baseball games since our team color was red and they had no extra shirts this year. In fact, I had attended a financial struggling religious school back then. They made compromises and I was happy. 😊 I enjoyed my time at that religious school. I made friends and was the 2nd student to return years later and reconnect with our teacher. I also dealt with getting bullied in public school but that was to be expected for me. Thankfully I never was popular. I was a loner with two good friends. Perhaps loving Kiss had it's downfall which is why I had a rough time in public schools, but excelled in the religious school. Eh... those hard times in public schools were worth it. At least I latched onto a band that wasn't a one hit wonder. 🤷♀️😊 I loved your video. Some of this I wasn't surprised by, and some of it was new to me now as an adult. I'd enjoy connecting with fellow Kiss fans and talking about all things Kiss from albums to collecting, and admire the fans that create videos and talk about Kiss, give out interesting news [past and present]. It makes me wish I had kept my index cards of Kiss info I jotted down from the summer of '89 through Dec. 2, 1990. Unfortunately, my mom made me trash almost everything in my first tiny Kiss collection. A move that we now regret. However, if we could have just came to a different arrangement, then it would have helped. I think I'd cry if I saw my stuff I had from back then, and then I'd probably laugh seeing how far I had made it with a more specific 70's Kiss era that I had searched for for years. Also I heard their music described as "acid rock" hard rock, rock disco (Dynasty album '79) and shock rock as their concerts are like a darker version of live entertainment in their early days. 😊

They had the greatest gimmick of any band ever! The makeup and the costumes stood out and demanded your attention. Then Alive came out and when you saw that cover you knew they were wild because they looked it. I had to see and hear what their live show was like! But I was too young to go back then to a wild concert like that with explosions and such! Then they kept touring and got a following. Then finally Alive 2 came out! When I saw the cover and inside gatefold photo I said I must see this live spectacle! I still couldn’t see them and ended up finally seeing them for the 96 Reunion Tour! When I heard that intro You wanted the Best! You got the Best! The Hottest Band in the World! KISS! Musically, you got punched in the Gut by KISS! It was basic Rock n Roll that was fun and catchy! Punchy Barre Chords basically! They had a drive and a groove that was undeniable! Controlled Chaos is a pretty good description of KISS! They gave you everything but the kitchen sink! Then they became huge in 1976 the Bicentennial Year and 1977 Finally! What a Party! The 1996 Reunion Tour lasted over a hundred shows and it was like a Time Warp going back to the Seventies! The Party was back and I really felt transported back to my childhood when I listened to KISS on my Stereo Turntable and my Room was covered with huge Kiss Posters all over the Walls! They took me way back! I almost cried when the came and I saw my Idol Space Ace in front of me and Peter Criss the Catman! Finally live and it felt like a dream! Dreams do come true if you don’t give up on them! I waited 20 years and my dream of seeing them live came true finally! The crowd went crazy and a good time was had by one and all! Very few bands can deliver that kind of satisfaction! KISS did it in Spades! ✊🏻🤘🏻👌🏻👏🏻

Grrat video! Thank you! Here's the thing (for me)... the first 3 studio albums ROCKED! Point. Secondly, hearing the Alive album gave each song some more "freedom jam" space & time! Bonus!!!! Seeing KISS for the 1st time in 1978, they DID NOT exercise the "jam out" option. Although VERY POWERFUL of a show, in hindsight, it now seems a bit contrived! If / as they played the songs live just like the studio version.... I'd sit home and listen to the records. I guess it was just an era of bands "jamming out" a bit more. --- As for your comment about "controlled chaos"...I believe that was mentioned on the back of the 1st (I believe) KISS paperback book....maybe entitled "Punk Power". Steven Gaines author? Im going on memory alone.

@@stanlee-eq7luKiss and Maiden are great bands, but in mid 70s, around 74-75 Sabbath was still killing it live. Around 76-78 Rush and Judas Priest were at the top of game. God I thank God I got to grow up through the seventies and into the early eighties, so much silliness and fun. Kiss, Star Wars, Star Trek reruns, Smokey And The Bandit, the list is non ending. Roller Rinks, etc etc.

In 1974 there is evidence of an “Are you ready to rock, are you ready to roll, well if you are put your two lips together and welcome - KIIIIIISSSS,” intro.
@jeffbaker6343 күн бұрын
When I first saw them the opening introduction was " The hottest band in the land, KISS! Then the next time they changed it to "world" instead of land. I wonder if that was because they toured outside the United States. Either way it was and always will be the best concerts I've seen.

There is a show at a bar that is prior to their first album…that was exactly how they introduced the band.

For Kiss, I love the short period with Vinnie Vincent and Eric Carr.

I saw them 4 times with Vinnie on guitar, tow with makeup and two without. It was not their most commercially successful era, but they were excellent.

if you've never heard the 'are you ready to rock" intro, you've never listened to very readily available recordings from their earliest tours... Long Beach 74, for example...

It's funny, I've listened to a number of those things over the years, I also bought the DVDs of KISSOLOGY with the concerts way back when, but somehow it didn't register it in my memory bank.

Never saw them early, but the early days it was “You wanted the best, you got the best, the hottest band in the LAND…KISS”! Then after that tour they changed land to world. But never heard of he other way other than those 2.

I remember thinking how sluggish the original recordings sounded to me compared to the revved up versions you hear on ALIVE. Although I have heard at times producers would encourage the artist to record a little slower in the studio and underplay in some instances

I was a kid in the 1970’s. I loved the music but at my age I was into the superhero image as well. Listen when you are very very much into Marvel comics and here comes a band that has a similar look well it gets your attention. I didn’t get to see them in the 70’s. Then when I did hit my teen years Metal was huge and I was into Metal a lot more than the rock of the 70’s. Plus I was 100% an Ace Frehley fan. So no Ace I didn’t care to see them. 1996 with the reunion I finally got to see them and it was amazing!

Not only did Live albums didn’t sell well, a double album certainly would have been a problem because the single albums by KISS were not selling well either.

Is That! And Since Then I've Been A KIZZ Fan! At That Time There Was Only Two TV Channels In Finland And I Saw Only Once Rock And Roll All Night On TV And I Had Posters All Over My Room Walls And Pictures. When Kizz Meets Fantom Of The Park Came To A Cinema I Went To See Movie six Times To See My Heroes "Moving"! And Even Borrowed 8mm. Camera From My Friend To Shoot Some Parts Of The " Rip Rip Rip And Destroy Scene! Those Where The Days... I Saw KIZZ Live Ten Times And First Time Was 1980 In Sweden And Eight Times Here In Finland An Second Time In Sweden 1996. Yeah I don't know when JR Smalling started the famous Alive intro, but I would bet that the author remembered the intro inaccurately. I don't think Kiss would have ever had explosions before the music either.

I think it was Circus Magazine. The critic’s summary of Kiss’ first album was less than flattery. KISS was referred to as clowns and the critic gave them less than one ear (the magazine gave 1-4 ears.)

They said "you wanted the best you got it... the hottest band in the land... KISS!! That was a thing in the later 70's
@rjc72896 күн бұрын
It wasn't until recent years when I realized how heavily doctored-up that Alive record set was. There were a few shows here and there in the 70's where they had different intros than that classic one we've heard a million times. I think there was one in particular in 1976 where a roadie dressed as Gene Simmons came out onstage and said, "Alright! Gene Simmons! Paul Stanley! Peter Criss! Ace Frehley! KISS!!!" Something like that anyway. And yeah, those first 3 albums were about as basic as it gets -- Chuck Berry-style chords and licks played through louder amps.

Kiss's first three studio albums were akin to listening to a circus on a record as opposed to going to the circus.
@JosephWoolf-ct4bt6 күн бұрын
I agree, Kiss's first studio albums are kind of weak, with a very slow tempo. There live versions of their songs have a LOT more passion! The first time I saw Kiss was in Nov of 1979 during the Dynasty tour, at the Anaheim Convention Center that's across the street from Disneyland. The last time I saw Kiss was at their final show on Dec 2, 2023, at Madison Square Garden in New York! I lost track of how many Kiss concerts I have been to over the years. I have also been on six of the Kiss Kruises.

I have heard some announcements at the beginning say "the hottest band in the land", and only later did it become "the hottest band in the world". Even KISS had to pay their dues.. One of their first shows in full makeup was said to have been played in Amityville , New York at a bar called The Daisy in 1973. Sadly it has since been demolished and is now a parking lot☹ kzbin.info/www/bejne/nnWwf4Npa8ykprs
