I appreciate how you actually just use stuff that works rather than trying to be trendy or use the newest (insert hype tactical brand) gear. It’s a breath of fresh air.

A lot of dudes are obsessed with the tough guy ego trip of roughing it. I definitely agree with cutting back on unnecessary weight, you probably dont need a tent, you probably dont need a full mess kit, but a little food and a shelter half are just a little extra weight for a shit ton of comfort, and comfort does count. Its not everything but anyone whos been caught out in the rain, without food, or swarmed by bugs, knows the less you can make the things you control suck, the better your mindset and the better you can do your job

For bugs, try essential oils. Up in MN keeps mosquitoes, ticks, horse and deer flies away. Lemongrass works best.

Little late to the party but oh well. Just some advice, im an EMT in a fairly rural area and have had to deal with my fair share of trauma incidents, i cannot highly recommend enough carrying more gauze than you think you need. Wounds are gonna eat that shit up fast. I have fit feet upon feet upon feet into things like penetrating wounds in the hips/waist area, shoulders, etc. I've never felt like i had too much gauze on hand lol. Thanks for the great vid, ive been looking at getting a taps for myself lately, keep up the cool work and stay healthy

Highly recommend the Nalgene canteens. They're clear and they don't taste like plastic. Fits just perfectly into the canteen cup, and it's just worth it. $10 each, grab two of em, they're perfect replacements to the standard issue canteens that have seen better days.

I just purchased my first TAP. Forgive my ignorance but is it supposed to have some wiggle to it? It seems kind of loose despite most of the tabs cinched up as much as they will go. I realize I am opening myself to a ton of trolling “this guys a shrimp, hit the gym, etc etc” but I really want this to fit snug. Am I doing something wrong or are these made for larger guys?

@@Briathos1yes unfortunately the bounce is an issue, when worn on body armor it can be tightened more since the armor has body, and stiffness to it. The harness was an afterthought. Was never in the initial requirement.

I'm a huge fan of the TAPS. I have had the Spiritus Micro and Split rigs but ditched them for the TAPS. I did modify it based on some stuff from the @TheGruntPerspective channel. I live in southern NV, so like you I also carry two canteen, but am going to lower them a bit like you have to try out. Love the channel and content, thanks for sharing!

Plus up your med kit to the TCCC standard. You'd need more than a kravat and combat gauze. Also I'd always be wearing eye pro. You only have 2 eyes and if they are damaged you aren't getting them back.

Think about it, could be a cool one 👍

I didn't have a problem with the front straps on the standard harness, but the Y style strap was not that comfortable and would get twisted. I switched to an H harness from krydex in ocp/ scorpion for $24.95 they also have it in Coyote for $21.95. It has similar front straps, but the H harness back is a lot less irritating. Wears pretty well under any of my rucksacks I've tried it with. It is a Chinese copy of spiritus systems tap upgrade kit, I'm a poor boy on social security.

Back in the day, there was a good belief that extra medical (Cravats, Compressed Bandage, today maybe Quick Clot) could easilly be carried in the canteen pouch, under the canteen cup. Just extra emergency gear where it doesn't take up much real estate.

The TAPS is, IMO, the best, most underrated piece of milsurp you can get your hands on. So versatile and modular. The harness is the worst part of the rig, definitely suggest upgrading to something like the Krydex Fat Strap H Harness.

@tropicalpines4585 3 ай бұрын
@@fattiewestside I second this. $25 and you’re in business with a good H harness. You could even mod the harness it comes with after some sewing. I don’t think it’s the “best” rig, but for the price I don’t know if it can be beat.

I understand when you need a chest rig vs. when you need a plate carrier. I get that you can get a chest rigs that attach to/or can be worn over your plate carrier. I also see where it is advantageous to have your plate carrier and chest rig set up similarly in order to build muscle memory. But, I have never heard anyone say you can take the plates out of your plate carrier and simply wear it as a chest rig. Is this a bad idea? If so, please explain why. Great info. Please keep it up.

I saw an older video of yours showing this setup, and you weighed it at 25 lbs, but you didn't have one of your canteens or radio on, and I'm not sure if your mags were filled.
