Kit review: Vice75 "Prussian infantryman, Second Schleswig War 1864" in 75mm scale

I am fascinated by the second half of the 19th century for a while already, of course it finds its way into the hobby sooner or later! Even though i painted a Prussian infantryman figure from the time of the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 last year already the subject has not yet lost any significance for me. Since then i bought me a few more figure kits that fit that era, amongst them a Prussian infantryman from the time of the German-Danish War of 1864 by Vice75.
The brand Vice75 comes from Hungary and is pretty new on the market. It is a collaboration between the teams of SBS Model and The Bodi, apparently these guys just enjoy themselves this way and have no real economic interests.
The resin figure consists of more parts than you would expect. All of them are of excellent quality and come with plenty of details. Quite amazing indeed! The pose is very natural, the creases in the uniform are convincing and all the small and smallest details are present. I was impressed by the ears of the soldier in particular, it is probably impossible to make better ones in that scale. The Dreyse needle fire rifle is also neat, it comes with an open breach and very sharp details.
Cleaning up the parts and assembling them can take some time, but the effort pays off. Such a nicely detailed figure is a rare sight.
The figure kit costs about 36€. For what you get here and in comparison with the figures of other brands in that segment of the market it is a really low price tag. It is highly commendable!

The Second Schleswig War, also sometimes known as the Prusso-Danish War, was the second military conflict over the Schleswig-Holstein Question of the nineteenth century. The war began on 1 February 1864, when Prussian and Austrian forces crossed the border into the Danish fief Schleswig. Denmark fought troops of the Kingdom of Prussia and the Austrian Empire representing the German Confederation.
The war started after the passing of the November Constitution of 1863, which tied Duchy of Schleswig more closely to the Danish kingdom, which was viewed by the German side as a violation of the London Protocol.
The war ended on 30 October 1864, with the Treaty of Vienna and Denmark's cession of the Duchies of Schleswig, Holstein and Saxe-Lauenburg to Prussia and Austria.

It is really amazing how nicely made those resin figures are these days. I remember buying some resin blobs from some odd brands which no longer exist, now it is as good as it can get.

Das sieht nach einer guten Figur mit tollen Details aus. Schonmal eine gute Voraussetzung für ein gutes Ergebnis. Da dürfte die Bemalung dann auch richtig Spaß machen. Gutes Video mit zusätzlicher Hintergrundinformation dazu. Dann mal viel Spaß, wenn Du die Figur dann auf den Tisch nimmst. Grüße, Joachim

Absolut, das wird sich fast von selbst bemalen und wohl dann auch gut aussehen, selbst mit meinen bescheidenen Fähigkeiten. Bin schon gespannt, so eine schön detailierte Figur sieht man wirklich selten.

Vielen Dank für die Bausatzbesprechung. Eine sehr schöne Figur. Kriegt ihren Platz auf der Wunschliste. Freue mich wenn du auch andere Epochen der Geschichte als Thema hast. Wie wäre es mal mit einem Samurai ?

Bitteschön und gerne doch. Das war auch mein Ziel, mal ein bisschen Abwechslung hier reinbringen. Ich kann gerne noch mehr ungewöhnliche Figuren auspacken, habe da ja so einiges zur Hand. Ein Samurai wäre toll, ich spiele schon länger mit dem Gedanken. Allein die Entscheidung fällt mir schwer, Auswahl gibt es reichlich :) Vor langer Zeit habe ich schon einen Samurai bemalt, ginge heute bestimmt besser. kzbin.info/www/bejne/foGkf2dqaZydZ8kfeature=shared

It does indeed look like a high quality figure, with great details... and yes, I agree.. that head is a beauty!! Interesting topic for a figure as well, from one of the many 'smaller' wars in Europe. I don't have as in depth knowledge or experience of resin figures as you have, although I am using them more and more recently, mainly from 'The Bodi' and 'Alpine', both brands that you of course is very familiar with. You drew may attention to those figure brands in your reviews, and I always watch your videos with extra interest, when it comes to reviews. Now, personally I would love to see a Danish infantry soldier counterpart to this Prussian.. If they want to depict soldiers from a certain specific war, they should really represent both sides.. maybe that is in the plans for the future? Any idea? If I only was a better figure painter, I'd definitely like to give this figure a go..

Cheers Rob! It is amazing to see how far the art of producing resin figures has evolved over the years. They used to be of questionable quality at times, but the latest releases are just flawless all around. I would love to see a few Danish figures of that era as well, since they would indeed complement a collection really nicely. At least Vice75 has released an Austrian hussar from the same war, but we are indeed lacking some Danes right now :)
