When I was in Taiwan she was just starting her career. Her songs bring back so many memories of my time in Taiwan as a missionary, and even the back up music with the etherial organ and accordion sends me back to the 60's. She sings with such what can I say sweetness, definitely a gift from above. The Japanese as well as the Chinese lyrics are just as beautiful. She sings with the voice of an angel and the body language is so so sweet as well. I will always love Deng Li Jun. I have heard many female vocalists from China but her voice and talent is unique and in my opinion unmatched by any other female voice per se as to what she could project in her medium. Too bad she could not have shared her talent in China. She always melts my heart, we need her today.

How fortunate you got to see Teresa Teng who is one for the ages. Teresa's voice does it for me, I can feel the heavens. As I understand it was Teresa's mum who trained her to sing, not much formal lessons. Natural gift. I'm from New Zealand, and I look forward to visiting Taiwan for the main reason to visit Teresa Teng. Kiaora (Greetings).

the Accordion and the Mandolin are western instruments. Yet, Only with the Japanese and the Chinese have those two instruments been the vehicle of truly Classic music. This song exemplifies this truth. Nowhere in western music do I find such beauty drawn from these two instruments. Thank You. It does not hurt to have a talent such as Teresa Teng doing the vocal part of the arrangement. She is in a class by herself.

她声音好甜我记得在嘉义的时候老太婆讲一般台语和日语And I remember the old houses in Jia Yi were constructed like Japanese houses also with tatami's inside. The little kids tying up insects with threads watching them fly around and little girls jumping rope with rubber bands tied together. They also played hop scotch kicking a small round tin can of shoe polish. The games throughout Taiwan seemed to change as you went from city to city, depending on what games the children were playing. We were always met with "Adoga lan" or "I love you" by the little kids.We are talking 1968 which is a long time ago. There were older men riding bicycles yelling "Chou Do Fu" riding through the neighborhood. Then there was the popcorn man who had an old contraption that he heated up and boom it went off and we had instant rice. There were little shops selling dou jiang you tiao, guo tie and other Chinese meals and treats. I remember in Taipei there was a lean to little restaurant with people packed inside waiting in line to have dou jiang you tiao in the evening, large gas flames shooting up from the makeshift stoves. There was sweet and salty 豆浆. Also pots of hot oil making shao bing you tiao. I don't know if those days are gone but it was a great to be in Taiwan. When I see a traditional style restaurant in the States and I see Chinese people just coming over from mainland China or Taiwan the culture and the manner in fixing potstickers or Shui jiao hasn't changed a bit. Love the culture and the people! Teresa Deng sang first for the army and around Taiwan. Never sang in mainland China though they say that Deng Xiao Ping controlled the day while Deng Li Jun controlled the night. Everyone knew her songs.
