It's part of their script. They are trying to intimidate and make the elderly anxious to make sure their victims follow their instructions more likely without asking questions. Remember, the victims think they could go to the prison 😉 for committing a crime.

One solution is to encourage people to never deal with people over the phone(or even real life) who display unprofessional behaviour, even if it is not a scam. Just disengage if possible.

I've taught my 75 year old neighbor/friend about scams and she legit asks "How's Kit doing?" and proudly tells me "I had a SCAM text today that I deleted!". She, has in turn, told her sister in a different state and her Zoomba class. I'm sure it kept going from there.

The Sisyphean labyrinth he set up that makes scammers jump through an endless number of hoops to get their Bitcoin is pretty close to this. I think the issue with setting up a reverse scam center is that unless you did it very “under the radar,” you’d run up against the fact that a lot of scambaiting is in a bit of a legal grey area (for one thing the scammers are committing international wire fraud and a non-LEO knowingly engaging with it even in an antagonistic capacity isn’t certain to be upheld as legal in court) and, while scambaiters don’t run into trouble doing it on their own for entertainment purposes, as soon as you bring official legal employment into the mix you’re taking it into a place where the legality of it may actually be _questioned_ - as opposed to merely being _questionable_ - if that makes sense.

it boggles my mind how they get away with a story that boils down to " this is the FBI and someone has hacked your account and is using your account and social security number and we know exactly who it is by name but you are going to jail unless you draw out your money before it gets frozen by the government and send it to us via bitcoin"

It actually works better with a less believable story. That way you filter out people that will catch on once the payment part of the scam comes up. If they can get them to believe that they're talking to the FBI, they're pretty likely to believe that bitcoin is a "security account."

I'm happy you do this. My grandmother sold her house and car. To send money to some scammer to an abandoned building in New York state. Pretending to be publisher house sweepstakes. Another time I called her and she said she was just going to the bank to send me 5 grand to bail me out of jail. I know she has no money and I've never asked her for more then 5 dollars and that was only as a kid growing up.

Your videos educated me and when my elderly mother was being scammed my brother overheard the call and phoned me as they were asking mom a lot of questions. Well, I immediately went over and told her to hang up and let's get to the bank. The bank lady was very nice and helpful and helped us with what to do. Thankfully, even tho the scammer connected to mom's computer, her bank was safe because mom doesn't have online banking. New unbcrumpted computer and she was back to having that again. Long story to say thank you Kitboga for teaching me about the scammers. It helped my mom.

@@k.k.9378 I don't think many victims think about noise coming from the scammers' end because they believe they're talking to someone in a call center, which may boost their credibility to the victim (lest the scammers aren't yelling/abusive in the background). But scammers want their victims to be alone so there's less chance that they become informed of the scam by someone else.

I just received an email suposedly from Kaspersky, informing me that they would renew my subscription (which I never had) directly on my credit card. Pretty good: it was in my own language: French. I had to look in my financial records to be sure. Thanks to your educational (and entertaining :))videos, it saved me a lot of worries and of money maybe. Just for fun, I called them. All the voices recorded are an american accent, and you choose option 1 an 3-4 other options until, there was the indian accent, at which point I hung up.
