We ended up using two different types of latches for our kitchen cupboards and drawers. On the cupboard doors we used magnetic latches rated at 25 pounds pull. For the drawers we used a ball-bearing style latch in hopes they would be even stronger than the magnetic latches! We'll be sure to let you know how they work as soon as we load up and start driving this thing around!

About Us:
Hi! We are Mike & Kerry, the proud owners of a 1992 Bluebird rear engine (pusher), 40' school bus! We named her Bussy McBusface in honor of the RRS Boaty McBoatface travesty!
We're building a Tiny-Home-in-a-Bus for full-time living in the most adventure-friendly way possible! In other words, Bussy will not be parked in our driveway, waiting for weekend or holiday getaways... when we finish the build, we'll be packing everything we're keeping into the bus and driving away from this old house forever!
We plan to be boondocking the majority of the time, so you'll see that reflected in our choices throughout the build (100 gallon water tank, composting toilet, solar power system, etc). We'd love to have you stick around and follow us on our journey, throughout the Skoolie Build, and to Infinite Adventures Beyond!
Mike & Kerry

Don't need to double latch, just tighten the screws on the ends of the latch to increase the strength. Also you could have mounted the latches 90 deg without fixing them to pieces of wood, but the vamp idea was good

The problem is the trade off of how much force is needed to keep it closed while travelling compared to the inconvenience of overcoming that force during normal use. The stronger the latch though, the higher the tendency to leave it partially open. What you really need is something that can be disabled while parked but active while travelling. We use two on each draw, a push button and a weak magnetic. We leave the push button popped out while parked.

If you find the drawers are not holding shut tight, there are screw adjustments on the smaller part at the sides that push the balls in a bit more and that will hold the drawer closed firmer.

🧐 Why’d you orient the blocks so that the catches are screwed into end grain? Did you want the bedroom hatch design flaw to not be lonely? ☝️🤓 Speaking of which, if you could inset said hatch door, then you can leave one of the drawers open before going to sleep, thus confining the monster under your bed to its lair.😈👿
