Kitchen Makeover For Under $10k

We love a reno challenge, so when our friends at Dulux asked us to use their new Renovation Range to totally transform an old kitchen, we said “bring it on, baby!” #challengeaccepted
The catch was that the end result needed to be Unrecognisable, Unbelievable AND Under Budget! We were pretty confident about achieving the first two, but the UNDER budget was something we’ve never actually done before. We’ve come close… even ON budget, but never under.

I love everything but the white painted wooden countertops and the door knobs. It would’ve added more character if the wooden countertops were sanded to their original color and varnished with a clear top coat and copper rounds knobs would’ve tied in with the incredible oven hood top

I feel like the timber wasn't the problem, it was the walls. The timber would've looked really cozy with the white walls. I would've at least left the timber benchtops tbh.

I also would have left the counters a lighter shade of the wood. The know are ugly. They make the cabinets look old

I would have white washed the brick, added a lighter finish on the countertops, and painted the cabinets a dusty, medium green. Green would look great against that copper hood vent. An old farmhouse sink would look good in there too. The painted white tile looks good.

copper knobs would have been the perfect touch to really emphasize the hood, as well as a copper tone faucet ! Nonetheless, great reno!!

It's actually depressing that you painted over those STUNNING countertops. And paint as a countertop? No way that will last. You literally just painted. Paint for 10k and an expensive sink.

Every house I've lived in, I've painted the countertops...and they are still going strong. I've done this for others too and they still love theirs!!

Sanding it back and revarnishing a lighter colour would have looked so much better. Having so much white in a kitchen would just make it a PITA to clean.

MrsAriann the paint was specifically formulated for this type of application . I think they did an amazing job ...yes it’s just paint , but when you’re on a tight budget , this is a great way to do it

10k for paint? Seriously they could have bought a whole new kitchen with new appliances from ikea. i get this is advertisement but this is just a disappointment. use dulux for walls but for a kitchen make over?

And don't forget the white sink. 1240$? They own a shop for that price or what? For that kind of cash you could get the sink with the faucet and a good microwave too. 'the f**k.. And "handyman"?? That handyman for almost 500$ he should've made the electric and plumbing part (don't know why they needed a plumber though) And f**k those handles for 282$..just..no

I really do love the 3 birds and their style. However, 10k for a paint job is just not realistic or the best use of a budget. The appliances seem to be the same and the worktop (which food is preped on should not be painted unless you are on $762 budget) ahh this one is a miss, unfortunately. There is just so much you can do with a 10k (even with the cost of labour). That being said the styling was very well done.

I'm going to agree with you on this. Literally everything was painted and that was disappointing for me. I know labor is costly, but to me they should have been able to stretch this budget a bit more. Styling seemed to eat up the budget too when getting new countertops (or refinishing the wood countertops) and a new backsplash would have gone miles for me.

There is $4333 worth of labour, the job would be the difference of $4632. But for DIY purposes budget of 10k could have gone further. I actually did my kitchen in January using this product and it is awesome I did it myself, there is a lot of work that goes into this, days of prep and recoat. But it come out awesome. My splash back was black tiles so I had to do 3 coats and each coat is a 8 hour wait.👏👏👏👏😊

The knobs are still outdated and now the countertops look outdated. They were beautiful in the original wood tone. This is a case of too much of the same thing . The Natural wood tops would have set off the entire look of the kitchen . I could have done this on $2k budget.

L M add copper taps instead of gold, or maybe add copper accents in the light fixtures or decorative pieces like some bowls. The main thing that seemed a little strange was that they went with gold instead of copper because that would’ve been an easy swap

Everyone is complaining about how the paint job is so expensive but tbh I think its totally realistic and worth it. If they would have bought new kitchen cabins this reno would have been waaaay over the budget. Also look how fantastic modern-boho-farmhouse style this kitchen turned out? This is basically my dream kitchen! I understand some people love the timber countertops, I personally don't. I would have done the exact same in this space. But I would have liked to add a little bit of accent with a boho rug and decor just to warm it up a little bit more but that's my personal taste. Amazing video Ladies! ♡ greetings from Germany

Waw what a makeovers! I would have sanded everything down because the wood looks great and well cared for. And then I would have painted it white 😄 change the stove etc and maybe at a beautiful stone on top of the wood to make everything feel expensive.

I think the kitchen looks amazing! Don't know why people are so bothered by something they don't even have to live with! The paint transformed the kitchen, made it so much brighter, more modern and more welcoming! I actually love the knobs! What a stunning transition! Absolutely beautiful kitchen and you took it from a little dim and very dated to a big, bright, beautiful space anyone would be proud to cook and host in! Lovely job as always! Paint is truly the least expensive, most impressive change you can make on a budget and the most modern formulations make painting things that would have been an impossible mess just ten years ago, completely DIY friendly and DURABLE!! I love that!

I feel like all of their renovations have VERY similar styles. I personally love it, but it seems to me that they dont take into account the style of the home owner. For instance this kitchen does not match with the rest of the house

Sand the wood counter tops down to natural and seal them and add handles to cabinets and knobs to drawers but use a contrasting material or color like a hammered bronze ugh missed the opportunity with the hardware that’s a huge transformation in its self and this was still granny’s kitchen when they were done

Overall, I like the lighter, brighter feeling but It was a shame to paint these counter-tops and completely cover the bricks. I also felt that the kitchen had too much decor going on, especially in that right back corner, under the cabinets.
