Thanks for sharing. I just gotta mention a tip from the future... Open shelving is no joke when you live in a place for twenty years. There is no way to stop the grime infesting every single thing on those shelves (and the shelves themselves). It's a kitchen, full of oily vapour. I hate my open shelves and don't use them anymore. End up washing clean dishes all the time, and that type of grime really sticks. Something to consider if you cook a lot!

I'm still in the design phase of my kitchen remodel and see clearly that details matter. I found a program with my city and for $50 I could have 2 hours with an architect (the city would pay the architect an additional $150). I did it and then I purchased an additional 5 hours of his time and we worked to design a kitchen. I was amazed at the details that he presented to me (like I need a round kitchen table rather than the current long table, and I need a counter depth refrig rather than the monster I currently have). I am now working as the general contractor. and project manager for my remodel. I met with three different cabinet companies and selected one. I have an electrician that I'm working with and a plumber as well as a stone company for counters. Each of the trades have given me incredibly valuable info, and your video echos much of what they have suggested. I'm also finding it's OK to ask each if there's a lower cost item or method that we can use that won't significantly affect a great kitchen. The trades people are super excited to discuss other options and they often extend their discounts to me. This is a really time consuming project but I sure am learning a lot and am meeting great trades people. I was really impressed at the info information you packed in this video and I look forward to checking out your other kitchen remodel videos. Cheers!

I am presently retired but I was a kitchen designer for 13 years and I can vouch that everything you said was spot on! After doing it for so long, I often do not realize how many little tips and tricks that I’ve picked up over the years without realizing it. As far as the overhang on the countertop, I used a product that was an invisible overhang support. It was installed under the countertop and cantilevered from the top of the base cabinets. Because they were flat pieces of steel that were 1/8” thick, they were invisible if they stopped a few inches from the countertop edge. Unfortunately, this did not work if the kitchen was visible from the living room area as you were low enough to be able to see these strips when you were sitting down. I can’t remember the name of the product...sorry. Also, regarding the type of handles to chose, I noticed that many handles lacked sufficient clearance especially when used on painted cabinets. People would find that their nails would scratch the painted surface causing damage over time. I must admit, I do miss designing kitchens. They were endlessly fascinating!

Hey Grateful, I love designing kitchens. How do you become a kitchen designer? Thank you.
@gratefulketo22114 жыл бұрын
@@dcat2004... In Canada, you do not need any sort of certification. I became a kitchen designer because I have a bachelor's degree in Interior Design along many years of various types of designing. ( Commercial and residential.) Before I retired, I trained someone who was a real "techie". He had no prior design experience but he learned on the job. It was being "in the right place at the right time" for him. All designing is done on a computer so you have to be techno savvy. People often start with a design degree just so they can get a foot in the door but as you can see, it is not always necessary. Good luck!
