Every kitchen they show are spacious kitchens. I take a European approach to decorating. I use my space and creative space in ways Americans don't. I vaulted the ceiling and added a skylight and installed very tall cabinets and integrated my laundry room where the counter over the washer and dryer also pulls out into my kitchen which is used as an island or table. When done, it rolls back. The kitchen always looks spacious and clean.

Absolutely LOVE my drain racks! They double my counterspace, and are strong enough to hold a heavy pot when I need it out of the way. I can put my cutting board on top one, and chop vegetables there for added counterspace, and I can wash dishes over them with the water flowing through them before they become drying racks for my dishes, since I am not a fan of dishwashers. Can't say enough good things about my drain racks, but don't get me started on the wasted space of dishwashers. Not having one. Ever.

My favorites : hand-glazed tiles (though i loathe grout), copper sink & facet with green cabinetry, and especially the little glass pantry! We don’t have a pantry in our kitchen, but use a cupboard under the stairs that we use as we don’t have any orphaned wizard children to keep there 😊

Why don’t the kitchen designers I’ve talked to just listen to me in regards to what I want in my kitchen…not what THEY think I need?? This only wastes my time! My husband is a bit OCD….he’s the cook and I’ll make sure he gets what’s comfortable for him…so I don’t want a dammed thing changed in my current space….it just needs new, one-for-one properly sized and installed replacement cabinets! I tell the design people this up front….yet we always go down the “this is newer…that’s old fashioned….that’s not the best choice for maximizing the space….bla-bla-blah” road. Yet try to just get cabinet prices out of these people without going thru the whole designer song-and-dance….you’d think you were asking for unobtainable, secret info…it’s not! It’s a price for a product! Small local places are no better than the Big Box stores….at least here in Charlotte. It is blazingly clear to me, once again, why I gave up on this project 2 years ago..other than Covid…I don’t have the personality to deal with designers and it will be far too expensive to hire a contractor to manage the job. This should be a wonderful, fun experience…not a terrible drudge I hate to face. Sorry for this rant…thanks for listening and not judging!!

Sounds like you're frustrated. All renovations are stressful and it's always a balance between your wish list and your budget - throw in a manufacturing process and all of it is definitely not a fun, wonderful experience! It's a lot of work. And there's lots of money involved on all sides. Yes there are fun parts to a renovation... but trust me... I do this every day and I see more stress than fun. The fun part is enjoying the end result and that's goal for all my clients. Having said all this... lumping all designers into the same group isn't fair. We all have personalities and the biggest decision for you to make when embarking on any renovation is the people who will help you get there. You need to find the right team. Good luck!

I like thin pantries that slide out from nowhere so you can grab what you need while cooking (like spices), and then slide them back out of sight while you carry on with meal prep. Anything more substantial in a pantry needs to be behind closed doors for me.

Not a fan of backsplash tiles. They are harder to keep clean than quartz sheets, and they get things looking too busy, and even cluttered, in my opinion. I like more of a sleek look. Keeps the kitchen hub looking more spacious, which is what I really like going for, since I spend so much of my time there.

Lovely informative video. Just from experience, marble is a natural stone, it’s been used in kitchens. I have used marble unfortunately it stains easily, any drop of acidic food like lemon juice, tomatoes or even spilt milk eats the stone and leaves a horrible stain or unpolished surface. We can get rid of this stain is getting it polished professionally. A HUGE EXPENSE and very messy.

I would love a butler’s pantry with a door to separate the noisy, cluttered kitchen from the dining room. I would have lots of cabinets for storing special china, crystal, table linens and serving items. I would also have a big warming oven, maybe a hot lamp station, too, and a plate warmer, dishwasher and sink. Then the dishes of food and plates could be kept piping hot, ready to serve and out of the way in the kitchen. Everything could be staged there and ready to take into the dining room. A wine fridge would be great, too. I don’t like dining in the pandemonium of a huge, open-plan space, especially if there is a TV in it.

That's what the experts say, but I'm not buying it. It really depends on what works with your overall design. Go with your gut. I'm actually thinking of switching to a black faucet, since I will otherwise end up with a stainless steel sink and my new chrome faucet.

@@janiceestes9518 Good to know, as I've been thinking of switching to black. Not sure if a chrome faucet will go well with a stainless steel sink, but I've only been able to find chrome and black faucet handles of a design that matches my cabinet pull handles, and for numerous reasons, the cabinet pull design is absolutely a keeper for my overall design scheme. So many variable to consider, and it's critical to get things right the first time, since these decisions are pricey to re-do if not gotten right the first time.

Green? Just no. Likewise with blue. Too trendy. I don't want to be re-doing my kitchen in a heartbeat. That's no small price tag! Color needs to be added through decor pieces, like wall art or towels. Keep kitchen colors more neutral for a stronger resale value, because you just never know when you are going to have to move.

How exactly does your inspire section of your Patreon account work? I am interested in one-on-one advice on general items through my small home. Do we supply you with drawings, measurements, pictures or how do you prepare to give us advice without any information? I assume you must need all of this before the actual 30 minutes. Is it done via Zoom? Do we actually move through the house showing you in real time what everything looks like and then you give us ideas? Is it $81.50 for one month for 30 minutes and if we want or need more time, we wait until the next month, pay another $81.50 for another 30 minutes? Just wondering how it all works before I enroll. Thanks. I love your You Tube channel!

Hi there, you get one 30 minute call each month that you are a member plus access to a live chat at the end of the month. For the call, you need to send me photos, plans, images, etc. in advance of the call and then I'll arrange a zoom call to discuss (so it's best to sign up towards the beginning of the month so you have more of my availability to choose from). If you need another call the next month, Patreon automatically charges you on the 1st of the month. So if you only need the one call, then you'd cancel the subscription before the 1st of the next month. I have lots of Patrons that cancel and then come back when they need more help, or others that just stay on through. Hope this helps!

Oh, and I hate upper cabinets! I'm short so they don't work for me, plus I hate the darkness in the space from the cabinets and the counters. Also my idea. I'm working on converting my laundry room into a pantry so when I redo my kitchen I can remove my upper cabinets as my kitchen is small and removing them would open the room up a bit. Everything, including dishes, food, and small appliances will go in there. The only things left will be the lower cabinets for pots and pans.
