@chrisg0001 the units you speak of are from when KitchenAid was owned by Hobart and had much much better internal componentry. KitchenAid was sold off to Whirlpool and the quality has taken a big hit at least twice that I'm aware of. The new units today are absolutely nothing like what you experienced. A couple years ago they even came out with some expensive high-end kitchen AIDs that had really crappy AC Motors and they just screamed. Helen Rennie has a video on here describing her dissatisfaction and return after having used and loved KitchenAid forever. KitchenAid side with standard operating procedure but there's a bunch of videos on here and I actually personally experienced one of those KitchenAid Pros with the horrible motor. They had so many returns that they actually ended up changing the motor they were putting in them. On top of that they cannot need for any significant duration without voiding the warrantee! Even the big KitchenAid Pro isn't supposed to knead for more than about 4 minutes if I remember the manual correctly and if you're doing denser dough like Bagel or pizza you aren't supposed to exceed more than I believe 2 quarts in a 5-quart stand mixer so no double batches and you can only knead for 2 minutes at a time!
@smsstuart3 жыл бұрын
Both brands of mixers have their advantages/disadvantages - most of which were blithely dismissed. In the end a case can be made for either one, or both. The comparison was not very helpful for a number of other reasons. First, a single batch of cookie dough was compared to a double batch. Where's the sense there-? The KitchenAid could've handled a double batch of dough, had you insisted on it. Also, comparing the wattages of the two machines was just as deceitful: 800-watts for the Bosch; 450-watts for the KitchenAid. The Bosch design uses a belt-drive, while the KitchenAid uses a geared, direct-drive mechanism. A belt-drive system isn't as efficient at transferring power from the motor to its intended 'load', and as such requires more power than a direct-drive system. So, the KitchenAid would need less power for equivalent 'rotational torque' - the only measurement that really matters when it comes to the actual "power" at any of the attachments. (And both companies conveniently fail to disclose those numbers; preferring instead to use wattage, which 'sounds better', as it can be a big number, but is essentially meaningless). Additionally, the Bosch *needs* more power - no matter how you measure it - as it has a 30% greater capacity than the KitchenAid.

Having had both, I was very interested in this comparison. A couple things were useless information (watts) 2 completely different power systems. Also of significant note: the Bosch has the weird grooves for the lid that get filled with gunk. It is difficult to scrape the Bosch bowl clean, especially one-handed. Another deal-breaker: It is VERY loud. I sold it and went back to my Hobart/Kitchenaid.

Very strange video which appeared tilted in Bosch's favor from the beginning. The inability of the Bosch to handle cold butter was simply dismissed but it's important for many recipes. Also, you were using the wrong attachment on the KitchenAid for cookie dough - that calls for the paddle not the whisk, so of course the texture is off. Also, using different sized recipes is going to easily cause different results. These machines both have pros and cons and it would be nice to see those actually highlighted with each machine being used as intended with equal recipes and proper attachments used, and cleanup also being shown. Unfortunately this video missed the mark and I hope people do more research before purchasing either machine.

A few heavy users have had to replace or rebuild their KitchenAid mixers over time because the gears in the front of the mixer head wear out. It would be interesting to know how well the Bosch holds up over time. By spreading everything out across two whisks or two paddles, it seems not to be putting as much stress on either. Then, KitchenAid has many different models, and I would imagine the higher priced commercial models take more abuse as well. From outward view, the Bosch has a really sturdy appearance.

And they should be embarrassed to even sell these mixers without the scraper blade attachment because without that it is 100% worthless and even with it it is not really that great either the ice cream maker would have been a nice attachment if not for the blades not even coming anywhere close to the sides of the freezer bowl and on top of all that the mixer does not even come on sometimes either (despite having only used it about 6 times in the 15 or so years i owned it) , it is the biggest piece of shit i have ever owned ,100% useless i know 2 people who just threw theirs away , i wish they had told me cause i would have rather had theirs, instead i actually paid money for this useless dust collector it just makes more work than if you didn't even use it at all , kitchenaid designers need to go back to the drawing board and make their attachments have a MUCH more precision fit to the inside of the bowl so that they actually come anywhere near fucking close to the sides/bottom of the bowl because this is ridiculous , when you can put 6 extra large eggs in the bowl and the whisk does not even barely touch the surface, and the paddle they give you same thing , same with the ice cream maker ,then you are doing something VERY WRONG ,i don't know WTF they are thinking , the god damn beater paddle/ whisk /ice cream maker paddle are like 3 fucking miles away from the bottom and sides of the bowl , it can not mix anything for shit unless you stop it 50 times and constantly manually scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl , but at that point then WTF is even the point of using it all they had to do was make the whisk, ice cream paddle come within a reasonable distance from the sides /bottom of the damn bowl jesus christ how hard is it , it is not fucking rocket science here This is why nobody buys American , it's because it is all just trash, just like the cars this is supposed to be an iconic American brand and the stand mixer is supposed to be their signature product but this POS has been the biggest disappointment and let down i ever purchased it is a 100 % worthless piece of shit , they should be embarrassed for selling such trash i never used the bosch but you can not beat German engineering ,my BMW is 20 years old this year and still like brand new , the kitchenaid stand mixer is like a pontiac just awful though by looking at the Bosch i don't think i would buy that either it looks like it mixes the balls , but it looks like it would take 3 hours to get all the batter out of it if you are baking a cake ,looks like way too much surface area to scrape ,i feel like i would lose about 1.3 of my cake batter if i used that thing or that i would be there for 2 hours trying to scrape it all off so not thanks to either one

Hmm, not sure when KitchenAid came out with each attachment, but they've had several add-ons for years now (well before 2020). Kitchen-Aid has an ice-cream maker, pasta roller, veggie peeler, and other types of extensions. They might not be standard, but I think the standard ones are pretty applicable for the everyday, casual kind of baker, and if you need the others, you can get them. Also, I've never had any problems doubling a recipe for chocolate chip cookies using a KitchenAid. I think they should've made the comparison using the same quantity for each. That extra butter probably helped make it creamier; even if the flour is doubled, that extra fat goes a long way. Seems biased in favor of Bosch. Sorry, but the KitchenAids look a lot better too. Even if Bosch has a "stronger motor," it looks cheap.

As someone who has owned two sizes of Kitchenaid and just got a Bosch, I disagree. My Kitchaid, the same model as is in this video, is awful at smaller batches. A full size cake receipe is where it starts getting good. It can do a half cake receipe but you are scraping the bowl a lot to help it out. And for egg whites, you need about 4 in the bowl before it'll work well. In the Bosch, it can easily do a half cake receipe and it can whisk 2 egg whites no problem. For me, the Bosch wins hands down, except on price. I got the Bosch as an open box on sale. Otherside the price is kind of hard to take.

Counting all the time owned, probably close to a century. I only know of one being taken apart. I wanted to see how it worked, so I took it apart. Didn't need to. The LARGE gear under the bowl, is plastic. I did this on my $6 Deseret Industries score. Six bucks for the Universal. There was NO wear! steve

I don't get why people are so wed to Bosch over Kitchenaid. Honestly, every review I've seen puts Kitchenaid above Bosch. Also, all the plastic with Bosch really leaves me worried about how well it will handle things over time. Plastic holds on to oils, which makes making meringue very difficult. I also worry about doing something where I need to pour in something hot, like a sugar syrup for Italian meringue. I also have to wonder about the inconsistency of attachments I see being used in this video. You start out in the Bosch with the dough hooks (used for kneading bread) for cookies, then suddenly you're using the whisk attachments? Then you go back to the dough hooks. I'd also like to see what you say when putting the two machines through a more varied assortment of uses. Also, you say the Bosch comes with more accessory options, but I know Kitchenaid also has everything you mentioned the Bosch has, so I wonder how well you did on your homework.

It's a shame you didn't actually lift both of them up to illustrate the difference in weight and show easy it is for anyone to pick up the Bosch and put it away in a cupboard or on a shelf. You don't need to keep it out on the countertop which is nice if you don't have a lot of counterspace to begin with. I've had my Bosch for over 20 years and it's never failed.. BTW the dough hook on the Bosch is NOT dishwasher safe, it is partially aluminum and will discolor with that black residue, beware.

I have never used the Bosch but I own a KA 600 professional model. I have to say though that the Bosch really looks cheap to me. All of that plastic then the thin flimsy looking attachments. Not to say that it's not good quality but I find it kind of off putting. ,I would love to see more reviews down the road as to how it holds up over the years.
@amandarada32422 жыл бұрын
I agree.... the plastic look is totally off putting for me too! I'm in the market for a mixer and have been leaning towards the Bosch, but I really don't like the plastic look on the outside. They now have a "black" and metal option, which looks much nicer. There are several comments on this thread which say they've had a Bosch since the 80's or so! And others that say they have metal gears/mechanics and plastic outer. And that some KAs have metal outside and some plastic mechanics! I think for me, one practical reason I lean toward the Bosch, is I don't want a mixer left out on my counter and the Bosch seems easier to move and store.... those Kitchen Aids although beautiful (love the color options) are heavy, cumbersome and if you are going to store it, you need quite a bit of space. The teenager inside of my wants a light pink KA mixer; but my practical mama bear self of 5 kids and no space says... get the Bosch and be happy! 😄

…sponsored by Bosch? Proof that if you spin things a little bit, you can make anything look great. Those are the quietest mixers I’ve ever heard. (great background music BTW) 😝 The Kitchen Aid actually performs better with a double batch, so you handicapped the test. I wonder how well the Bosch kneads dough? (I’m sure it can hold it’s own, right.) America’s Test Kitchens review on KZbin covers all the bases. Kitchen Aid was the clear winner. Bosch makes some great stuff! Love my Bosch washer, dryer and dishwasher.

@Bigheadedwon2 жыл бұрын
A KA does absolutely nothing better than the Bosch. The only pluses are they're much quieter and come in a hundred different colors. Legendary chef James Beard said it best when he said the Bosch Universal is the gold standard of dough mixers. He could have used any mixer on the planet and he chose Bosch. The dough I mix 3x a week in my Bosch plus would either kill a KA or cause it to overheat and need a 20 minute rest period. Kitchen aid, minus the $1000+ commercial line have been utter crap for decades now. And even the commercial line you can do much better with other brands when you hit the 1k+ price catagory

My kitchen aid professional model bought 6 years ago (450$), very light use officially stop working. I was always question about how this thing gonna last because of the way the bowl design (put on 2 side hook and lft the handle to raise the bowl up) and the noise of the bowl getting shaking and self-adjusting during operation. Now the motor is working, but the bowl could not adjust its movement, strains the motor, paddle stop spinning and the whole thing make scrary growling sound. Zero credit for kidchen aid, i see Bosch having smarter design. I make sure my words passed to my next generation Kitchen Aid, no thank you. All so i never happy with other a attachemts, the attachemts go with machine (whip wire, duogh hook) are very cheap made and leave black metal dust on the food. meat grinder is a waste, meat comes out with black stuff from the intact betwen driver and shaft blade. A whole horrible experience.

Kitchenaid is by far the worse mixer I have ever used. We bought this for $599 a year ago and had used in for less than one year and the roller stopped turning while the motor is still running. I waited a month to bring into repairs due to Covid and the holidays and the warranty had just expired. They told me this is a known problem and repair cost comes to $400+. Because the warranty expired they are not covering it. What a SCAM!! If this is a known problem, why did they focused on the marketing in selling a colourful and fancy looking mixer to the public instead of engineering a good quality mixer and fixing the inherent problem??? I will never buy another KitchenAid product ever again and will tell everyone I know to do the same. Shame on you kitchenScam!

Your suppose to use the paddle attachment for cookie doughs not the wire whip. Duhh.. Use the machine wrong and of coarse it will not perform well. Don’t let this bias review fool you Kitchenaid. Is more versatile and capable especially in the larger 7 qt models.
@YoGoldfish2 жыл бұрын
I have to say this was a really useless comparison. Comparisons 101 or "Comparisons for dummies", you have to be doing the same thing with each item you're comparing or it's entirely moot. This shows me absolutely nothing as a buyer choosing between these brands. What a waste of time. Next time do the same recipes with both mixers, obviously.
@benavetissian9344 жыл бұрын
Do not take this video seriously there are so many things that were done wrong. 1) you should never put plastic in the dishwasher but all kitchenaid attachments are dishwasher safe. 2) you should never make cookies with a whisk they will be over worked and tough to eat. 3) it was an unfair comparison, when testing you always make the same amounts never more or less in one. 4) kitchenaid mixers come with many more attachments then the Bosch 5) the kitchenAid will out preform a Bosch any day
@BoulevardHome4 жыл бұрын
We would disagree with you but thank you for sharing. The reason not to put kitchenaid attachments in the dishwasher is because the finish will most likely be damaged. We used a wisk temporarily to begin the mixture of the hardened butter. We had a larger amount of dough in the Bosch so it anything it would have been unfair for the Bosch. Included attachments are similar for both models. However looking at additional options Bosch seems to have better options at lower prices. Overall the Bosch outperformed but the Kitchenaid is still a very good choice for a stand mixer.
@robinbanks8954 жыл бұрын
@@BoulevardHome I think the KitchenAid pro line 7 will outperform any other mixer out there. The whisk is for egg whites or whipping cream, never cookie dough or bread dough. The cookie dough should only be mixed with the paddle attachment.

@chineeboy184 жыл бұрын
@@benavetissian934 what people tend to over look with this test is the fact that this was done using a large batch of cookies. They did say it was a double batch. This is where KA Artisans and their residential machines struggle unless you're using the Pro-line series which is built for large batches. The other premise of this comparison was the price. They used both these mixers because they are in the same price range. The pedagogy of cookie baking was not the test in this video. While the KA has many good features, based on the categories of mixing capacity and power with the attachments and most importantly *price* in this test the Bosch would win. If you're looking to bake a small batch of cookies on a weekend to have at home, then the KA Artisans mixers are better suited for that task. As mentioned before, there are more powerful KA mixers that can do the batches the Bosch mixer can do in this video, but they are in a more expensive price range.

We bought a Massimo stand mixer at Hart Maison Engros at Place Vertu, Montreal. It worked great the first time. The second time the locking mechanism seemed broken. Maison Engros said one week had passed, they have nothing to do with it, perhaps call the manufacturer, but no number was listed. We tried our luck calling Maison Condelle, the name listed on Massimo packaging. They passed us onto a lady by the name of M. Dessur......, customer rep at Hart Stores. She seemed very nice and willing to help. We did what she asked: send her the receipt and any details by email. That was the end of it, we heard nothing further from her. Phone calls left at Hart Stores have been met with complete silence.
