as long as the sets are over 300 cards and under 400 cards. Yes, I am looking forward to collecting each card from each set released once per year, and I think that this will be good for the game. This game is for Magic players to play on the side, not as a replacement for MtG, but if we, as Magic players, play LESS MtG, we can play Sorcery on the side, and ONE set per year is perfect for the primary audience of Sorcery.
@MrRayRockstar10 ай бұрын
You have a better understanding than most players! I just keep hearing this game is the game that kills all other tcg's.
@Shishkebarbarian10 ай бұрын
this is exactly it. this is what the kickstarter pitch essentially was. something you can enjoy at your leisure, be able to keep up with and enjoy the old school feel. i wonder though if maybe two 150-200 card sets a year is better than a single 400 card one. then there is the topic of keeping the core set in print.
@Shishkebarbarian10 ай бұрын
@@MrRayRockstar i dont think people are saying that. at least i havent heard this nonsense. Sorcery has always been pitched as the direct opposite of main-mtg-tcg.

To even have this conversation you have to define “success” and also understand what EC vision and goals and definition of “success” is. You’re looking for middle ground but maybe they don’t want middle ground. Tons of ppl have many different things that “sorcery needs to do to be successful and survive”. “They can’t grow the game if they don’t have it for sale all year”. “If they do it right then x y z”. We don’t know if their growth targets are for individual players added or boxes opened over previous set. (I tend to believe they are working on a unit comp growth strategy). To me it’s clear they don’t want to be a year round model and more of a seasonal drop/model such as a sports season where you check it out during the season and when it’s over you walk away from it and come back at the beginning of the next season. Again everyone including myself has to stop looking at it thru the lens of what’s good for us or me or you and how we can draw customers or friends and try to see if thru their eyes

The sorcery team has stated that they plan of having 1 set a year, with possible mini sets. Enjoy the ride, and be patient , videos everyday and every week yelling sorcery needs more than 1 set a year isn’t gonna do any good the framework has already been set and stated clearly
@Brackenberriespvp10 ай бұрын
Yeah, I got at similar things in my video on this. What I think is the most important is that Eric's Curiosa isn't just planning for a quick in and out like a certain other dead card game that your podcast may or may not be named after. In any case, it signals that they're at least trying to plan for the long term.
@darensmith116710 ай бұрын
I would think they would just make it a set pack. Not randomized at all, then there won't be any shenanigans. It's xx$ no hype or pumping etc.

Don't have sealed product? Sell singles. Plenty of "whales" likely to happily sell tons of their "bulk", especially if they are highly leveraged on their CC's. Sealed boxes are cool and all, but you can buy 3 boxes ($450 at MSRP) and still never open certain cards you want, and end up opening cards you don't want which are hard to move or far less desirable than those you want. Everyone thinks they'll open a "God Box", but believe me, those are incredibly few and far between. Singles is the best use of one's money, so what's stopping that from being the primary focus until AL is released?
@geeruusgamingnstuff71109 ай бұрын
I always imagined the "mini set" would be a box product where you just get the 10, or however many, cards.

The problem with 1 set per year: either it has to be overprinted to keep stores with stock to support the game, or stores end up without product for most of the year and the game can't be supported and/or loses momentum.
@andrebomtempo789310 ай бұрын
thats not a problem, that is perfectly fine. People are so used to these crazy MTG release that they are led to believe that a game needs momentum all the time to thrive. I think its perfectly fine to lose momentum, and then when its time for the yearly release it will be "that time of the year" where Sorcery is full on again. I also think they will have some mini sets to fill in those gaps.

i want to say i saw somewhere Erik saying that he wants the avatars to have hoods so it feels like the player is the avatar. i could be totally wrong with that....with that being said it would be cool if they made and avatar that affected ranged units somehow..like a robinhood avatar :D...great vid!

The problem with a lack of a stream of income for sellers is that they aren't going to prioritize play space for those games that don't make them money. Magic is already going to take up the majority of table space, and the rest of the popular ones will fill out the edges. Sorcery is fine with a 1 year per release, but you're going to be playing it at your home (unless you live in Tulsa) rather than in a store. The issue with that is that there is going to be less exposure to the product, and the player base that atrophies naturally over time will not be replaced by new players at a sustainable rate.
@TeamBuzzard10 ай бұрын
Only wealthy people or store owners with financial leeway are feening/complaining like this at this point. Most of us can’t afford to open 50, 100, 150 boxes of cards to build decks and fill out sets. Most of us mere mortals can only afford a box per month, maybe two. We the poors are the ones who will most likely make or break the game. If they cave and print to the whales desires they will loose the wider, poorer base that the game needs.

You mentioned “the collector’s sphere.” You’re talking to people like me who’ve bought 3 booster boxes and 3 precon boxes. I’m almost done buying the rest of the singles I need to have a complete playset, I’ve dl’ed the steam but have only played it once physically. I can almost never make it to events so I’ve uploaded my entire card collection in hopes that maybe I don’t have to be physically at an LGS and still qualify for promos, competitions, dust and the like. Is this feasible from an LGS perspective?

"I cant get new product to teach people the game" . Comments like this really bother me. We all know you have thousands of bulk ordinarys and exceptions to use in making learn to play decks for new players. You dont need booster packs to teach a new players the game and grow the community. Stop it.

You can supplement a community by providing access to low rarity bulk, but it's delusional to think that by itself can grow a community anywhere. For one, just going into a store and asking about running events for a game they can't get product for atm is probably a no go.. Assuming at best you are allowed to just do your own thing and advertise it online, it's not likely to last if you don't have a store backing you and the community you're building. There are places that have communities locked in. I have plenty of experience demoing games for stores and getting communities together with regular events, but had zero success at 6 different stores in my area. Doesn't matter how much bulk I have to build learn to play stuff when stores can't get product to sell themselves

lol. My community played with ordinary cards for 6 months. I made alpha ordinary decks and gave them to people to teach people how to play. People want to buy their own product. They want to collect. And we haven’t gotten any restock product since week 1 after beta release.

i can see it being annoying from a store owners perspective not being able to make money all year round on Sorcery, but damnit, this isn't only about your bottom line! Sorcery one set a year may be close to perfect. perhaps 9 months would work better, perhaps not. or perhaps keeping a core set in print plus an expansion set? i dunno. you do bring up some good points about there just not being any access to cards locally being an issue but really you can get boxes online at msrp so whats the big deal. the game looks out for it's fans and i'm loving it. i dont need to and dont want to drop $1k on cards every 3-6 months.
