Late one, but still Monday! Kite Crash Monday where we discuss what went wrong and how to fix it! For today I found this gem! Accidental unhooking is happening to more and more folks. I have found my solution and the fix to share with you! What is yours? Kitesurfing is fun as long as we keep it safe!

Once in a lesson it happened to me and you won't believe but i was able to catch the chickenloop. The student has no idea that was almost impossible 😂

launching happened me many times... I'm starting to think that fixed solution have their advantage in particular if the riders didn't unhook... Zolty which you consider the best fixed solutions? maybe you could do a video on them!

I had never been a big unhooked warrior, yet i was riding all my life with simple hooks, and no fixed solutions. I have seen harnesses that has a circular hook that has a bottom that is openable,. I love to jump big, so the rope is not an option. To be fair, i have zero experience with fixed solutions, maybe my opinion here is less valid. I gravitate more towards the unfixed solutions and the building right habits. But I see what you saying - creating an environment where the habit is not necessary maybe a way forward!

I have a question: Is it safer to get the kite leach connected on the upper side of the chicken loop or underneath it, as it may interfere with the chicken leg. Or is it the same? I got another reason to unplanned unhook : I was dealing with a tubeless kite (foil kite) with very light wind 6/7kts so I needed to pull in parallel the front lines to keep enough tension and rear lines to adjust direction and gain speed in the middle of the power window. I pulled too much on the front lines and probably detached the chicken loop and when I let go the front line, all the kite flies out with only the safety line😳

If you mean go semi suicide when the safety ring is in the chicken loop (unhooked style) then it is not safer or worst but the kite will not flag it out so you can recover it faster. The same with short leas probably the best. However for me simple (not super strong handlepass leash carabiners) already opened like this and the kite simply flew away. Thanks God there were guys to catch it for me. I had flysurfers in the past(as foil kites) they had micro loop ( so small loop that unhooking is basically hard , unless you twist the chicken dick 90degrees it won't do it!) So I never had this issue. But I can see how big is a problem that on a soft kite 💥 being conscious about it and checking it as a habit when you feel slack is a way I reckon.. it is like looking to right and left crossing the street 💪

Solution #4 Get rid of the hook and donkey dong. Rope spreader or fixed center loop/ring. The hook is a carryover solution from windsurfing and unless you are the

@@EpicGust There are spreader bars that just have a metal U bolt to put your CL through, there is absolutely no need to have a hook unless you are unhooking, the hook is the dumbest and most dangerous relic in kitesurfing, the hook came from windsurfing, 99% of riders do not need it.

I moved almost immediately after my first kite season to the cabrinha fireball system. Now I ride the fireball spreader bar with two 3mm ropes and a slider, which can be fixed in the middle position if I want. Even if one rope breaks, the other one is still holding. That's the best solution for safety.

For me this is equivalent solution of the automatic transmissions in cars, for those who never got good enough in using the manual. One day might automatic will take over yet here the bad habit, overly pulling the bar, won't be fixed. Being physical causes tennis elbow, and causes accidental qucik release triggers ( lately happened to my student within a short period) than won't fix any of the rope or other fixed method. Don't get me wrong I am not saying the rope is bad. But if you have a tendency to do this mistake, you might open the qr sooner or later. with a little focus you can unlearn it. Ropes are fur surfing.
