Thank god you put music to this footage, I would have hated it if you explained what you were doing or something useful like that.

This is a great auxiliary power for powerboats. Can save fuel or extend range or backup propulsion. Just make it work on its own.

Memories of flying a kite. Seems like it has a side of fun.

Can you increase size of kit, and use it to pull, ,maybe giving you an extra 1-2 knots/hr?

Honestly if you just put a few tails on that thing to keep it bottom-heavy and it wont whip around like that and you wont have to worry about losing it in the ocean.

It’s whipping around to harness more power in low wind conditions. That’s the whole idea behind it. Look up kiteboarding

when was this video originally posted??? the date here shows May 2024, but many of the comments here are from 3 or 5 years ago!!! A bit misleading!

My time flying the kite is worth more than the fuel cost. So, no.

It's not sailing, it's flying a kite.
@tophan51464 жыл бұрын
Kite flies at altitudes between 100m and 150m where winds are far stronger than at the level of the vessel. At those altitudes it has a dynamic flight pattern, which resembles the shape of a figure 8. For this reason, the kite generates up to 20 times more power per square meter compared to a conventional sail”

Asim Ayyubi, same with sail and yet people can sail.
@DmitriyLaktyushkin4 жыл бұрын
@Asim Ayyubi Well imagine a sail that produces 25x the power going straight downwind. That's a kite. Going upwind kite is still going to be more efficient just not by such a wide margin. Don't believe me? Look up kitesurfing vs windsurfing comparisons. The problem with kites is keeping them up in the air is not trivial. And crashing one in a waves could mean losing the kite. Launching one is also not an easy task, this video skipped that which I'm rather disappointed about. Most importantly, kites have a minimum wind speed requirement below which they stall and drop from the sky. I think these are the main challenges for serious marine power kite use.
