Kitech Airwolf

Build up of the 1/48 scale Kitech version of Airwolf.

As a kid I built the AMT kit several times. The Keitech kit is the same kit. They bought the molds and have been popping them out. I bought this kit and it's the same kit. I also bought the Blue Thunder kit from Keitech and it's also the same kit as the original. I have to admit the air wolf kit is a paint to put together. The Blue thunder kit is a much better kit to build. Thanks for posting!!

I recently built the AMT kit. It didn't have pilots but it turned out okay looking. Not the best looking kit out there but it's from 1984 so :) BTW I was able to make the wheels retractable but it is a lot of pain to do that so I only mess with them with extreme caution.

Kitech is a Korean company. The kit is actually molded off the old AMT?Ertl kit. If you can get the original kit (going on Ebay from 60 to 100 dollars) stockpile them. I have the Aoshima kits (3 different kits one has a clear body and one has photo etched parts and the EDCC that Dom and Cait were usually in. If you want to know the original colors of Airwolf are not black and white but instead was Phantom Grey Effect DuPont 5031K and a pearl white under belly..HTH.

I used to build model military aircraft when I was younger and want to get back into the hobby. I enjoyed watching Airwolf when I was a teenage in the 80's and have one season on DVD. I noticed when I built the models, If I obtained three of the same model, The third one was always the best because I would find better ways to do certain things to improve the build on the 3rd kit. With models, there will always be at least one thing that doesn't go right during the build. So by the 3rd kit, the problems are usually figured out.

That company is from China. They are selling the kit on eBay with shipping cost and everything total $14.99 outdoor..

A great looking helicopter, should be reissued as a bigger kit. Paint job gave it a nice finish

Very good work my friend I only see one mistake which is with the rotors the top of the rotors should be white but underneath the rotors should be black.. and the actual color of air wolves is phantom Gray..by Vallejo, mecha color #69.040.. but I'm sure by the time you get this message it is going to be way too late because your model is completed but if you should do another one you will definitely have the colors for it now but still a great job considering the little problems that you had I think you did great

I've never heard of this company but despite the issues I guess it's better then nothing if you can't get your hands on the original/ better kits for this subject. Looks like airwolf to me.

The one thing you can be sure of concerning Kitech model kits is that they're pretty rough guts, what do expect from a Chinese knock-off? You did the best you could with this re-pop!

Biggest problem was that it was a re-pop of the AMT kit, which wasn't all that great, either

Quaralane No, it wasn't. I remember building the amt Airwolf kit ages ago, not so hot. I have the Kitech re-pop of the 1/48 Academy F-111 Aardvark, I almost want to build it just to see how far I can get with it before smashing it against the wall!

Hi there, I always wanted the ERTL die cast model (the one that was about 2 foot long) but could never afford it as a kid. Regards the air intakes on the Lady in some early comic strips and I think the annual book, there were some cone baffles in the intakes (probably to slow down the incoming air as turbine engines don't like air forced into them at supersonic speed, they work better with subsonic airflow _ just a bit of physics there!) But I think you did well with this model if the quality was as problematic as you say.

TBH Q, I could see you were a bit disappointed with this on the 2nd update onwards, I had the same problem with putting the 2 halves together on my AMT version, but once id cut off the rear seated area, she went together just fine. The pilots never came with the AMT kit, also I took off the front landing gear & filled the hole in with cardboard & putty. TBH, just buy the Aoshima kit like I did, the kit is far, far superior in every way but you will want to put a light inside the rear command area where dom sits.

Would have gotten the Aoshima kit in the first place, Slim. Problem is, with it being out of production now, you can't get your hands on one for less that $100 USD anymore. So, I went with a HUGE mistake, instead. Luckily, it only set me back about $15 USD

Quaralane Your right about the price, checking a few US sites just now for prices & went "Daymn, prices have shot up since I built mine" I paid back in 2013, £36 ($54) & I was really happy with the bargain that I got. Just keep trying now & again Q, you'll get one eventually.

@@Quaralane Great work though with what you had to work with, my comment was in no way meant to belittle that. From memory in the rear there was a panel / desk on the right side running around 90 degrees somewhat behind the front seats, with seat that could swivel for Dom. In the film it was crewed by three initially. Used to love Airwolf so much back in the day, nothing could beat the full length title music with the start up sequence.

pitot probes...for airspeed...not refuel probes, they would be much longer, need to clear rotor arc, lol
