I somehow missed this video going back. Nice set up this, and I like the camera angles showing you exactly what's going on. Great great content thanks, Bryan.

I got into that hobby SOOO bad, I ended up buying the Hobby Shop. Tons of fun AND I am extremely jealous of you for being a helicopter pilot. AND I thoroughly have enjoyed your channel, insight, tips and tricks, things you've learned and passed on to us. Would love someday to meet you at the R/C field. I live in Sacramento area. NICE NICE job on the build.

Great information Bryan. Thank you for your time and research. Already bought Acme and I think that is going to do a good job for me but always good to look at options.

Very cool! Those Beringer guys seem to know what works.

Bryan, Watching your videos I noticed that the starboard shocks were compressing about 1/2” more than the port side shocks. Could just be my ancient eyes, but you might wish to review your films just to prove I’m cross eyed. Keep the aspidistra flying! Paul
@BowenAero2 жыл бұрын
You are correct. Hopefully we will see that left Shock break in a bit more or maybe a slight pressure adjustment is needed.

I'll add the Beringer shock wheel to my wish list. I have the Grove gear already and added Beringer brakes on my Kitfox 5 which I bought from Bowen Aero. A great upgrade. Bryan is great to work with. Excellent info Bud, thanks!

I built a Just Aircraft Highlander a few years ago that had the Superstol landing system. It was a sweet setup landing wise but the drag was a problem, always trimmed the nose up but still got over 100 mph but wasn't running large tires. It had a 100 hp Rotax. I did borrow a set of large tires and it really killed the speed and required a good bit of up elevator to maintain altitude. I don't understand why Just Aircraft and Kitfox don't provide jacking points on the airframe, it would be easy to do.
@BowenAero2 жыл бұрын
It sure would. Jacking is always a pain.

Did you consider the Yamaha 988T at all when you were deciding on engines? I saw the @Project 2 Aero guy who's putting one in his rans 21. Very cool looking project. Skytrax built him a gearbox for it. Would love to do something like this just not sure if I'll want to do it on my first build.

Is there any actual compression and rebound adjustment in the shocks, or is it fixed. Are you getting actual damping? Especially in the rebound ? It really looks like the rebound is too fast.
@dougl46802 жыл бұрын
Looks like a great product. How much abuse can it take if it bottoms out? Would it be even better all around if it bottoms on the bigger hit and uses more travel?
@russellsmith38252 жыл бұрын
I see you moved to a different hanger. This looks like it would be a good fit for a zenith.
@BowenAero2 жыл бұрын
A great fit for the Zenith. They have tested them on a very similar model in the UK and they work great.
@TenorDad2 жыл бұрын
Maybe your next landing gear experiment could be with a trailing link (like a PC-12 off-field, or Draco... RIP, or a F/A-18E/F slamming on a carrier deck). The trailing link makes a bad pilot look like a minor deity.

Great system Bryan; I am very interested. Just one question: why didn't you use the internal brake line drillings instead of the ugly external lines with tie wraps?
@BowenAero2 жыл бұрын
They don’t have the gun drilled lines.

Why can't the Shock Monster landing Gear be made more streamline? Airfoil around Shock bodies.
@SteveSzalai2 жыл бұрын
So aprox what is the cost for just the shock system ?
@JoeRoscoe_DFW2 жыл бұрын
Curious, what do the new shocks do to/for STOL takeoff and landing distance?
@BowenAero2 жыл бұрын
Not really any different from the Shock Monster gear

Would an aerodynamic faring for the shock monster setup work? Or would that be too complicated to fasten and setup? Cheers from Winnipeg.
@vernerradialkitfox40832 жыл бұрын
You may have said and I missed it (sorry), but what's the difference in height between the Grove axle and the Beringer? It looks much higher even fully compressed.
@travisw90712 жыл бұрын
Cool
@ronnybaize2 жыл бұрын
Alex Di Sessa did that to his plane. Did Beringer copy his deal . Just curious on his involvement in this.
@BowenAero2 жыл бұрын
They have had this design in the UK for years and Alex uses a much different geometry and design theory.
@kennethjenks34472 жыл бұрын
I really enjoy your channel. Have noticed that your shocks are dangerously close to bottoming out. Consider having your plane’s weight rest at least half the total travel. Also consider airing your shocks with nitrogen to eliminate moisture. Think about it.
@BowenAero2 жыл бұрын
They are designed to compress that far. I agree on the nitrogen, but the way they designed the valve stem, it doesn't have enough clearance to fit a normal chuck on it.
@bkairys2 жыл бұрын
cool! What was the cruise speed difference?
@BowenAero2 жыл бұрын
Initially 8mph and then I also added the Wing strut fairings for another 5-6 mph.

@genze582 жыл бұрын

@fastmankim12 жыл бұрын
Don't forget to charge the shock with nitrogen
@BowenAero2 жыл бұрын
It doesn’t use nitrogen, it uses compressed air with a provided my bike Shock pump. Easy to adjust in the field.
