Put up a thick curtain in front of the hangar door top to bottom.. keeps the cold out. Reduce the area you need to heat

I'm surprised you're replacing that skin on the elevator. Oh, wait, no I'm not. I very much respect your persistent pursuit of perfection. Excellent choice. You do seem to have a lot of room vertically. Ever consider a hoist system? With a large enough one, you could even lift up a couple airplanes. I knew a guy that did it with cars to make more room for... more cars.

Good decision regarding choosing to paint over the winter, so that you’ll be five months ahead. Yes it will cost a bit but the sooner you get done the more time you’ll have to enjoy the fruits of your labour once the aircraft is complete and airworthy. I’m guessing you considered making a tool to assist with removal of the ‘Kink’ but decided it was going to be too much work or too costly, in terms of time and money by comparison perhaps ? Great stuff, looking forward to seeing your future videos. Thanks for putting in so much effort into documenting your work and sharing it with us all. Very much appreciated..

Sounds like you need to pick up a premium time trip to cover the hanger heat cost!

Heating the hanger is a big deal. I only saw one "ceiling fan" in your hanger. Could the addition of one or two more help with the heating issue? I'm only wondering since I don't know all the other factors affecting your paint job. Mark, I always enjoy your videos and appreciate the effort you make to provide excellent quality. Happy New Year

What about doing an inflated paint booth like Brian Bowen used on his kitfox, you would only have to heat the air in the paint booth.

Ugh on the elevator! My Cruzer rudder is under the bed. Think I'll move it before it gets wacked with the vaccuum! ... If you paint now maybe see your SD at OSH or Zenith homecoming '23!

I’m curious as to what type of heater you have. Is it a forced air unit? Natural gas? If you never plan on moving, it would be worth demo’ing the floor and installing a radiant heat system with a boiler. A friend has a 80x120 workshop they heat this way and it’s pretty economical. They have 16’ ceilings as well (14’ doors for semi trucks). A warm floor is awesome to work on. Sounds like some weatherstripping fabrication on the hangar door would go a long way, too.

Though still fairly rare in the US, when I built my 32’x48’x14’ workshop, I put radiant heat in the slab. This type of heat makes the ceiling height pretty much irrelevant. I heat my workshop for less than $80/month in northern PA winters and it is plenty comfortable to work in when the thermostat is set at 65. I would never build another building like this without this type of heat. It is not only very efficient, but working on a warm concrete floor in the winter is an almost unimaginable luxury.

Yes I've always heard that in floor heat is the best way to go. If I were building a new hangar that's what I would do. Unfortunately this concrete is already poured!

@@KitplaneEnthusiast Yes, hydronic slab heat is not an easy retrofit. It is a great way to go for a workshop. It does have one major drawback, slow response, but other than that one issue I have been very pleased with it compared to other shop heating systems I have used in the past.

We are getting ready to build a Zenith Super Duty, and we know you have a UL Power engine in your Cruzer with Dynon avionics. We where wondering where you got your engine monitoring system for the UL Power engine. Thank you.
@KitplaneEnthusiast2 жыл бұрын
Everything is from Dynon. I'm using the SV-EMS-220 module. They have a few different ones based on the engine you have. There's a certain one you get for the Rotax engine, but I think all the other engines can use the regular SV-EMS-220.

Suggestion. With all that space available above the airplanes and your technical skills -- why don't you build a hoist that can lift the Pitts out of the way ?
@KitplaneEnthusiast2 жыл бұрын
It’s just not worth the hassle and expense to do something like that.

Ya but do you realize for the price of a Big Ass Fan I could heat my hangar to 100 degrees, but a new plane, take a vacation, buy a Ferrari, and fund the U.S gov't for two years?

G,day Mark from Sydney Australia. Painting Why not put two cheap electric blow heaters in the paint booth, then place a thermometer inside for assessment. 🌡️🇭🇲
